Mining repositories has a potential to obtain useful knowledge for the future development and maintenance. When software repositories are mined, large commits in them are often excluded from mining targets because large commits include merging and we believe that large commits include peripheral modifications, which may affect negative impacts on mining code repositories. However, if large commits include code modifications, excluding large commits loses such modifications unintentionally. Moreover, such data cleansing assumes that there are no peripheral modifications in small commits. In this paper, we investigate how much peripheral modifications are included in commits in code repositories. As a result, we found that excluding large commits is insufficient to remove hindrances in commits for mining code repositories.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115598236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are different static analysis methods that are introduced to statically evaluate the correctness of such systems in terms of timing properties, such as schedulability analysis techniques. Regardless of the fact that some of these techniques might be too pessimistic or hard to apply in practice, there are also situations that can still occur at runtime resulting in the violation of timing properties and thus invalidation of the static analyses' results. Therefore, it is important to be able to test the runtime behavior of a real-time system with respect to its timing properties. In this paper, we introduce an approach for testing the timing properties of real-time systems focusing on their internal clock constraints. For this purpose, test cases are generated from timed automata models that describe the timing behavior of real-time tasks. The ultimate goal is to verify that the actual timing behavior of the system at runtime matches the timed automata models. This is achieved by tracking and time-measuring of state transitions at runtime.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114934818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, code reuse itself requires human resources: for example, searching and opening source files including code fragments that users would like to reuse, or considering keywords in using code search systems. The present paper proposes a novel technique that hardly requires such reuse cost. In the proposed technique, what programmers have to do for obtaining reusable code is just inputting a trigger key for code reuse on their development environments. Also, this paper describes some applications on OSS with a prototype tool working on Eclipse.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115067919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to our best knowledge no approach integrates both aspects. The difficulty is to automate the execution of a process whose variability is only partially resolved (i.e., a value is not set to each variable part of the process). Indeed, according to projects' constraints, it is possible to start the execution of a part of a process whose variability is resolved, while postponing the resolution of the variability of other parts of this process. In this paper, we propose a tool-supported approach that integrates both aspects. It consists of reusing processes from an SPL according to projects' requirements. The processes are bound to components that automate their execution. When the variability of a process to execute is not fully resolved, our approach consists of resolving this variability during the execution of this process. We illustrate this work on a family of processes for designing and implementing modeling languages. Our approach enables both the reuse of software processes and the automation of their execution, while enabling to resolve process variability during the execution.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128573370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, conventional acceptance testing only confirms that the system meets the requirements specifications. Therefore, it is difficult to detect lack of user requirements. This article proposes business-driven acceptance testing methodology in order to validate the system by confirming the system meets the users' business requirements. We explain the testing process, test case selection technique, test scenario design method, and discuss the experiences in the application of the proposed method to a large-scale human resource management system shared by multiple ministries and agencies of Japanese government.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130673179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, several line-based difference tools have been proposed, which extract differences between two versions of the program. Unfortunately, these tools do not provide enough support to program comprehension since a single commitment stored in a version control system contains multiple changes that are intermingled with each other. Therefore, the maintainers have to untangle them by hand. This work is troublesome and time-consuming. This paper proposes a novel mechanism that automatically detects individual program changes. For this, it restores snapshots of the program from the history of edit operations for the target source code and compares class members that result from syntax analysis for respective snapshots. In addition, the mechanism provides several options of aggregating fine-grained changes detected based on the edit history. The maintainers can select their suitable levels of summarization of program changes. The paper also shows experimental results with a running implementation of the change detection tool. Through the experiment, the detection mechanism presents various kinds of summarized information on program changes, which might facilitate maintainers' activities for program comprehension.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"205 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113996980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the complexity of SystemC specifications, formal verification of SystemC is still at a preliminary stage and no complete formal semantics for SystemC exists so far. This work presents an executable semantics of a subset of SystemC in guarded assignment systems and its applications with the symbolic model checker VERDS. The semantics preserves most of the structures of SystemC for hardware-software co-design. And the guarded assignment system is a general model which is widely supported by many model checkers. Among all the symbolic model checkers, VERDS is a competitive one with the new data structure ternary boolean diagrams (TBDs). The scalability and the efficiency of the applications of our semantics with VERDS have been demonstrated by experimental results.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125697873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To ensure credibility of results obtained from use of data sets, the quality of the data must be examined. Objective: This study provides an overview of recent research(2008-2012) involving data quality in software engineering datasets, with the goal of generally understanding what research there is that addresses data quality, and in particular to determine to what degree researchers have addressed any data quality issues in order to evaluate the trustworthiness of their results. Method: We performed a systematic mapping study to investigate treatment of data quality issues in software engineering research. A total of 64 papers published from 2008 to 2012explicitly address issues with the quality of data and use software engineering data sets. These studies were classified according to the data quality topic, data set and data quality problem. Results: We found only 31 studies gave serious consideration for how the quality of the data affected their results. We observed that there is a lack of clear and consistent terminology regarding data quality, especially with respect to the kinds of quality problems a data set might have. As a first step to address this problem, we propose a model that describes the lifecycle that research data goes through when used in research. Conclusions: The results suggest that researchers should give more attention to the quality of data sets in order to produce trustworthy data for reliable empirical research, and that the research community needs to better understand and communicate issues with data quality.","PeriodicalId":187451,"journal":{"name":"2013 20th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC)","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115907072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
