Four linear textures with inclinations ranging from 0° to 45° were tested. The results show that textured tools exhibited similar cutting forces to the reference tool, with a slight increase using a 30° inclination. Surface roughness measurements indicated minor variations among the textured tools, some reducing and others increasing roughness. The texturing inclinations had limited effects on cutting forces and surface roughness in this experimental setup.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"11 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chatter has slowed down the adoption or sometimes inhibited the use of robots for machining tasks. This work presents a new chatter suppression scheme by mounting a magnetorheological fluid (MRF) absorber on the spindle housing to absorb the vibration with a specific frequency range. Firstly, a Gaussian process regression (GPR) model is used to predict the modal parameters at different machining positions. Subsequently, the predicted modal parameters are employed as input to obtain the transfer matrix for chatter frequency calculation. After that, a novel MRF absorber is designed based on the controllable shear modulus of the MRF in its pre-yield region. The simulation verifies that the designed MRF absorber can suppress chatter and thus improve the surface quality of the workpiece.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"10 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The created geometry can be scaled arbitrarily and used for simulations, ensuring adaptability due to its point cloud like format. High precision machining requires large resolution (microns) that often leads to unmanageable data storage needs with increased calculation time. To overcome these problems, the proposed algorithm is built around a pseudo arc-length-like continuation of the cutting-edge pixels, which works on broaching tools due to the cutting-edge geometry is free from any loops or isolas. This method provides all the important data including the high-resolution edge sections, related chip thicknesses and the normal directions for dynamic simulations and manufacturing.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"10 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Only few recent papers show the possibility of such a synthesis of composite nanoparticles as well as their perspectives for biosensing applications. However, mechanisms of the laser-stimulated formation of semiconductor-metallic nanoparticles involving several processes are not clarified yet being considerably depended on experimental conditions. In this work, we demonstrated an impact of the laser irradiation of colloidal solutions of silicon nanoparticles at different exposure time in the presence/absence of a gold target. In particular, longer ablation of the metal led to a stronger plasmonic maximum in silicon nanoparticles at around 520 nm. It also decreased the hydrodynamic size from 165 nm to 85 nm as well as the ξ-potential from –46 mV to –30 mV by increasing the ablation time from 0 s to 600 s. At the same time, the lowest electrical conductivity value (~1.5 µS/cm) of the plasmonic nanocomposites was detected at 120 s irradiation time. The highest concentration of synthesized composite nanoparticles (~3·1011 NPs/mL) was achieved at 180 s ablation time. Another purpose of the paper was to reveal an influence of the used laser irradiation on properties of the colloidal solutions of silicon nanoparticles themselves. It was found a considerable decrease of their absorbance with the increase of the laser exposure time that can be associated with the change of their properties (e.g. concentration, size, oxidation state etc.). Thus, the laser irradiation strongly affects properties of colloidal solutions of silicon nanoparticles that must also be taken into account considering possible mechanisms of the formation of composite nanostructures. Presented in the paper fast optical diagnostic can help to determine properties of colloidal solutions of nanocomposites formed by PLAL prior their biomedical or catalytic applications.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"10 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are various disturbances in the manufacturing process, which makes the non-value-adding quality inspection unavoidable. In this paper, high-frequently recorded internal NC-signal data and the vibration sensor data from the machine protection control unit (MPC) are used to predict hole quality for the drilling process. The analysis of the preprocessed data reveals a linear association between the hole quality characteristics and extracted features. For inline quality monitoring, interpretable models for the quality characteristics of straightness and roundness are developed. The proposed approach showcases the potential as an economical alternative to quality inspection by random sampling in mass production.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"9 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additive Manufacturing techniques therefore allow components with different internal and external structures to be manufactured. Thus, components formed by an internal microstructure are of special interest due to their high strength-to-weight and high stiffness-to-weight properties. This work investigates the hybrid fabrication of curved thin-walled Inconel 718 with internal microstructural supports fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The outer walls are made up of solid surfaces with a fixed curvature and thickness, while the internal structure of the pieces is made up of internal microstructures that vary at different angles of inclination. Finally, the outer surfaces of the piece have been milled. Eventually, the dimensional quality of the components and their internal microstructure has been analysed.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"9 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being able to estimate the overall accuracy of a machine tool represented by the total volumetric error can be a huge advantage in the design process. This paper provides overview of methods used for geometric error transfer modeling and volumetric error modeling. An error transfer rigid body model is derived and after that, a random linear guideway straightness error profile generator is proposed. This allows to simulate a movement axis with random straightness errors of rails and computed geometric errors of an assembled axis. Volumetric error of a 3-axis machine tool is then modeled using its kinematic scheme and homogenous transformation matrices with 21 kinematic errors. Using simulated axes as input to the volumetric model, an entire machine tool can be simulated. From that, the total volumetric error can be obtained and a Monte Carlo simulation carried out. This allows to analyze statistics of the total volumetric error and with slight input changes (rail straightness tolerance), a sensitivity analysis can be performed to determine the most influential errors in the machine tool.","PeriodicalId":18723,"journal":{"name":"MM Science Journal","volume":"10 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136227297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
