The proposed approach depends on both intensity and shape information. The intensity information is managed by embedding an edge-mounted Willmore energy into the level set segmentation framework. Shape information is obtained from a set of training shapes. Shape variations are estimated using a probabilistic model which approximates the marginal densities of the vertebral body and its background in the variability region using a Poisson distribution. The proposed methods are validated with 40 clinical CT images as well as on a phantom with various Gaussian noise levels. The experimental results show that the segmentation accuracy of our framework is much higher than other alternatives. Applications on BMD measurements of vertebral body are given to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed segmentation approach.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"35 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120916287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, because of long distance and time delay between the satellite and the ground in wireless transmission system, estimate of channel state information has a certain degree of hysteresis. Reservoir computing(RC) is a recent neurologically inspired concept for processing time dependent data that lends itself particularly well to hardware implementation by using the device physics to conduct information processing. So, in this paper we describe the transmission characteristics of satellite communication channel and a simplified fading channel model is analyzed. Besides, a method is proposed for predicting channel SNR with reservoir computing(RC), and an Echo State Network(ESN), which is a class of RC approach has been used for training a neural network to estimate the channel state information. The simulation results suggest that it can improve the accuracy of SNR estimation in wireless transmission of satellite communication system and make it more efficient.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115243481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment was carried out with the gas volume fraction (GVF) varies from 10% to 90% at different flow rates of oil. Slug flow appears at a low GVF. While with a high GVF, a clear annular flow will be formed. For different flow rates of oil, the flow regime at the same GVF point could be different because of the flow rate of gas (or superficial velocity of gas). A method independent of flow regime is developed to calculate the phase fraction of gas-oil two-phase flows. The absolute error can be within ±10%, illustrating that this method is effective.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130972441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods have been applied to test and evaluate any flaws in these materials. In this paper, a waveguide based microwave NDT technique is used to interrogate the composite materials. A custom made Teflon loaded circular waveguide is employed for the inspection of defects in a test sample. The multi-layer composite structure and the waveguide are modeled in a numerical electromagnetic simulation software. The sensitivity of the circular probe to air inclusions in the composite is checked at 24 GHz by analysing the electric field variation at the defected layers. In addition to this, the response of the circular waveguide to the composite structure defects is compared to that of a conventional air filled rectangular waveguide at the same frequency point. The numerical simulation results are validated by imaging a practical five-layer honeycomb composite sample. The measured results are compared with the images produced using both the waveguide probes. It is observed that the circular probe is better in terms of resolution compared to the conventional rectangular waveguide.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125368993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of the Adaboost algorithm is remarkable in the face detection methods, but there are still gaps. Concerning the high false positive rate of Adaboost algorithm, the skin color segmentation method based on Gaussian model is introduced, which is used as the front and back processing of Adaboost algorithm, respectively. Experiments show that the using of these two methods can significantly reduce the false positive rate in the detection of real-time video stream, while the skin color segmentation as a pre-processing can increase the detection speed by more than 20%, which can help achieve a stable and efficient real-time face detection system.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123920313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of a voltage source instead of a current source simplifies hardware while increasing the range of conductivity, which can be measured. In addition, this excitation scheme allows acquiring more independent measurements with the same number of electrodes than the conventional scheme. However, there is a major drawback of ERTv system, which is that the resistance of the switching stage and contact impedance have an effect on the measurements and cannot be neglected because they cause measurement errors and reduce the reliability of ERTv systems. In this paper, the impact of the contact impedance and the resistance of the switching stage are assessed. A 4-wire sensing scheme for ERTv is proposed to overcome the limitations.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122145005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome this weak assumption, a coupled K-Singular Value Decomposition (K-SVD) algorithm in wavelet domain is proposed. In proposed algorithm the best low-rank approximation given by SVD is implemented to simultaneously update the Low Resolution (LR) and High Resolution (HR) dictionaries by enforcing the equality of the sparse representation coefficients at two resolution levels. In this paper, we have exploited the directionality and scale persistence property of wavelet domain. Such properties ensure that coupling between signal features at two consecutive levels becomes more prominent. Three pairs of coupled low and high resolution wavelet sub-band dictionaries are designed. Given the low resolution image, sparse coefficients are approximated using the low resolution dictionary then high resolution image is reconstructed using the calculated sparse coefficients and high resolution dictionary. Compared to the state of the art algorithms, results are significantly improved in terms of PSNR and SSIM quality measures.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115257368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an efficient stereo matching algorithm is implemented on a state-of-the-art GPU to achieve highly accurate disparity maps in real time for various autonomous vehicle applications. The proposed algorithm is developed from our previous paper, where the search range at row v is propagated from three estimated neighbourhood disparities located at row v + 1. In order to speed up the execution, the prevalent NCC algorithm is optimised by factorising the equation into five independent parts. The computations of hi, Hr, aj and ar are accelerated by using the integral images II, Ir, 12 and Ir2. The values of h and a are stored in static program storage for indexing during the stereo matching, which further reduces expensive calculations to help the system perform in real time. The main purpose of this work is to accelerate the processing speed by highly exploiting the parallel computing architectures (OpenMP and CUDA). The performance of the implementation on an NVIDIA GTX 970M GPU is compared with the performance of the implementations on an Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU using both single thread and multiple threads. The experimental results illustrate that the GPU implementation yields 37 fps when processing the images (resolution: 1242 × 375) from the KITTI database, which is between two and nine times faster than the implementations on the CPU using a different number of threads.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122446419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Representing information about the object to be tracked and the other about the frame that is being analysed. Previous implementations prove to be sensible to partial occlusion, updating the model template even in cases where the line of sight between the camera and the object is being partially blocked, producing a misrepresentation of the object's features. This paper proposes a dynamic template update, using normalised cross correlation as a similarity metric. Using the response given by the similarity, it is possible to determine ranges in which to update the model of the object. With this, the algorithm is able to keep relevant information about the object when it is partially or completely occluded. The main assumption made during the development of most template tracking algorithms is the prior knowledge of the object's location and dimensions in the initial frame. This paper proposes an interactive implementation where the prior information that is needed can be obtained from a single point in the object using segmentation. The implementation of the algorithm described produced reliable and real-time results (30 frames per second) on the NVIDIA Jetson TX1 platform.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122683707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
