A system is built to detect the defects of tread. We design the algorithm used in this system. Firstly, we use Helmholtz Principle to detect lines and ellipses in images. Then the edges of the tread are located by magnifying and translating the easily-detected ellipse, registrations are performed between template and under-detecting tread image. At last, we locate the distinctions between the two images, which are the candidates of the tread defects. Experimental results indicate that the precision of segmentation and registration of treads can satisfy the system's requirements of rapid-speed and stabelization.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115671699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, deep learning algorithms including Stacked Auto-Encoder (SAE) and Deep Believe Network (DBN) are applied to optimize the polarimetric feature sets and reduce the feature dimension through the processes of layer-wise unsupervised pre-training. An experiment was conducted on RADARSAT-2 quad-polarimetric SAR image acquired during Norwegian oil-on-water exercise, in which verified mineral, emulsions, and biogenic slicks were provided. The results show that oil spill classification achieved by deep networks outperformed support vector machine (SVM) and traditional artificial neural network (ANN) with similar parameter settings, especially when the number of training data samples is limited.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116190000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By adopting a common landmark topology, the dissimilarity between distinct face images can be scored in terms of the dissimilarities between their corresponding landmarks, which are obtained by proposed geodesic distance approximations between multivariate normal distributions which represent the color intensities in the vicinities of each landmark location. The classification process of new face samples occurs by the determination of the face image sample present in the training set which minimizes the dissimilarity score. The proposed method was compared with representative current state-of-the-art methods using color or grayscale face images and presented the higher recognition rates. Moreover, these results also support a trend in which color information is relevant in face recognition.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127585500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, we trained a convolutional neural network through learning a similarity measure on small image patches to initialize the matching cost. This method can extract the characteristics of the pictures automatically and precisely, and has strong robust against radiometric variations. Then, we aggregate the cost volume with guided image filter whose support window is adaptive rectangular instead of the traditional fixed support window. The variation of the window's kernel is generated by the local spatial distance, color similarity and gradient so that less occluded points will be included in the support region. Moreover, we adopt integral image and box filter to further speed up the computation of this step. At last, we evaluate our method on the Middlebury and show that it preserves the edges well and outperforms the traditional methods greatly.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122025311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to increase image resolution, a new image reconstruction method based on sensitivity map is proposed, which is of providing more pixels (sub pixels) by solving inverse problem with capacitive wire-mesh tomography image reconstruction. The image reconstruction algorithms, including the traditional wire-mesh direct image reconstruction algorithm, the linear back projection, the projected Landweber iteration, and the total variation based iteration, are conducted and the results are compared each other. One key factor is the difference in relative permittivity of the media within the sensing domain. This paper concerns the influence of the media dielectric constant on the imaging quality of ECT. Three flow patterns are simulated based on 8-electrode ECT sensors with the pipe thickness of 2 mm and 7 mm. The relative image error and the correlation coefficient are applied for the evaluation of the images reconstructed by the LBP algorithm. The inter-electrodes capacitances of different permittivity are analyzed.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130341791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the application of plenoptic camera was rarely get attention in three-dimensional measuring for particles and fluid. The applicability and accuracy of existing algorithm for depth estimation and three-dimensional measuring is acceptable [8]. However, the traditional algorithm for depth estimation is not suitable for measuring of particles and fluid in the result of some differences between particles and other kinds of objects in three-dimensional measuring with plenoptic cameras especially in the case of low density of particles system. This paper presents an improved depth estimation algorithm of plenoptic camera for the measurement of particles. This improved algorithm can effectively restrain miscalculation of depth by pretreatment and searching for the area of maximum gradient. The improvement of accuracy and precision of this depth estimation algorithm compared with the traditional algorithm was proved by a series of experiments.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128862928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brain function connectivity networks constructed from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), have been widely used for classifying MCI from normal controls (NC). In this paper, a sparse representation-based method called sparse inverse covariance estimation (SICE) constructs functional brain connectivity and distinguishes MCI patients from NC. One limitation of SICE methodology is its sensitivity to regularization parameters. To address this issue, a nested-cross validation framework was added to tune the regularization parameter through the machine learning process. After acquiring the optimal regularization parameter, a two-stage feature selection approach is performed on the brain network-based feature matrix to select the most discriminative features. Next, a linear support vector machine (SVM) classifier is trained for classification using these selected optimal features. The experiment results indicated a cross-validation accuracy of 91.89% with a sensitivity of 83.3%, and a specificity of 96%. The positive results illustrate the excellent diagnostic power of the SICE method. The proposed method found comparative differences between brain regions in MCI patients versus NC patients, which is consistent with findings in reported literatures.","PeriodicalId":187213,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132610570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
