In dealing with the banks, the customers and the banks face the chances of been trapped by fraudsters. Examples of fraud include insurance fraud, credit card fraud, accounting fraud, etc. Detection of fraudulent activity is thus critical to control these costs. This paper hereby addresses bank fraud detection via the use of data-mining techniques, association, clustering, forecasting, and classification to analyze the customer data in order to identify the patterns that can lead to frauds. Upon identification of the patterns, adding a higher level of verification/authentication to banking processes can be addedKeywords: Data mining techniques, banking sector, fraud, and authentication.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128085647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm takes into consideration medium contention, coverage range and obstacle penetration in selecting both the operating band and the channel within the selected band. Applying the algorithm, a MANET with its usual highly-dynamic behavior, in terms of mobility and number of active stations, seeks a better operating environment according to its real-time practiced performance within the surrounding environment. The algorithm operates independently on each MANET without any type of coordination with other competing IEEE802.11 networks. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The obtained results show its feasibility in enhancing the performance of a MANET over the fixed band and channel allocation strategies of the IEEE802.11 standard.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121736488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

What should be incorporated into computational science curriculum? Generating Functions (GFs) are one of the most useful tools, GFs have been playing an important role in many applications, including analysis of algorithms and in combinatorics, etc, GFs transform discrete data into continuous functions, so we can apply all the mathematical theories and methodologies for manipulating functions to study discrete data or data science. Recently, it was showed that GFs can be used beyond traditional applications in computation [1, 4, 5, 12]. So we believe it is very important to incorporate GFs into computational science education, including both traditional and new applications.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121747122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The program, App Inventor, simplifies the process of coding, making it an ideal method of teaching beginners the basics of computer programming and computational thinking practice. The simplicity of the program is evident through the rapid learning process of the high schoolers, who were mostly beginners at coding. Additionally, during the process of teaching and helping the middle schooler's debugging session, the high school students were able to properly digest the principles and fundamentals of computer programming by revisiting and teaching what they learned. The students, both the high schoolers and middle schoolers, collaborated in exploring and experimenting with multiple variations of apps that could be made with the given teaching materials. The level of comprehension amongst the middle schoolers was evident through their ability to produce the final products, which ultimately varied depending upon the method of teaching that the high schooler chose to teach with. This paper presents the organization of the summer programming camp, contents and learning outcome.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"9 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132063438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, for a computer system, recognising face images under varying poses still remains an open research area. Face recognition across pose is the ability of a face recognition technology (FRT) to recognise face images in different viewpoints, i.e. recognition of face images that are out of the image plane. In this research work, a short literature survey of 2D techniques which are used to correct pose are discussed. The classification of these techniques is based on three categories, (1) Real-view based matching, (2) Image space pose transformation and (3) Feature space pose transformation. This paper discuss the types of databases used, approaches to correct pose, the types of features extracted.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134303291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computer Science learning is a difficult, tedious process with a heavy workload which demands a lot from those studying it. A student who loses motivation or interest in the field is more likely to find a new area of study. In order to keep students interested and motivated, difficult concepts need to be taught in new, more engaging and interactive ways that feel fun. Students are willing to take on hard, frustrating, and even time-consuming challenges within video games for intangible rewards and feelings of accomplishment. Therefore, our goal is to gamify Computer Science learning to achieve the same levels of engagement and fulfillment as video games do. To do so, we have begun development of a serious game that introduces CS concepts in a fun and interactive way. To measure the level of interest and engagement brought on by this game, we let volunteers from CS as well as in other majors play our prototype. After playing the games, each volunteer filled out a survey comparing their enjoyment in learning through games as opposed to traditional classroom learning. With this feedback we concluded that gamification is key in changing the learning experience for CS students and will help them achieve their learning goals.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133747946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently Taiwan's electronic medical records exchange center (EEC) system lacks a mechanism for patients to consent to releasing only portions of their EMR. Currently patients must consent to total access when transferring EMR across healthcare institution. This study uses the IHE BPPC profile and HL7 Confidentialitycode to develop privacy polices matrices and patient privacy protect mechanism. Although adding confidentiality codes in Taiwan's electronic medical records would increase the workload for physicians and other healthcare professionals, it would also ensure greater security in the transmission of sensitive information, thereby enhancing the level of security for patients.","PeriodicalId":186778,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115612316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
