Acne is characterized by the appearance of several signs, namely blackheads, pustules, papules, cysts and nodes in the neck, face, upper arms, back and chest area. Acne is also a skin disease that affects more than 85% of adolescents around the world. Although not life-threatening, acne can affect a person's quality of life by giving a psychological effect that is bad for the sufferer in the form of a person's way of judging, responding to and looking at his condition and situation. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory power of citronella extract (Cymbopogon nardus) on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The study was conducted with experimental methods with the posttest design only group design controls conducted at the Microbiology Lab at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prima Indonesia and the Pharmacy and Toxicology Lab at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra. The results showed that lemongrass leaf extract had a inhibitory effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with various concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. The higher the concentration of fragrant lemongrass extract, the better the inhibition power.","PeriodicalId":186452,"journal":{"name":"BIOLINK (Jurnal Biologi Lingkungan Industri Kesehatan)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116939235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the diversity and physiological characteristics of the rhizosphere bacterial isolates of oil palm plants at PTPN III Aek Nabara Labuhanbatu North Sumatra. This research was conducted in July 2018 to October 2018 in laboratory of STIPER Labuhanbatu. This research was conducted by isolating bacteria from the root rhizosphere of oil palm plants, characterizing the morphology and physiology of isolates by phosphate dissolution test and indole acetic acid production test. Furthermore, the data was analyzed descriptively. Based on the isolation results obtained 10 bacterial isolates with different macroscopic and microscopic morphological characteristics with the largest amount of dissolved phosphate produced by isolate R05 (0.211 mg / l) and the largest amount of IAA produced by isolate R04 (0.097 mg / l). Isolates R05 and R04 have the potential to be further tested.","PeriodicalId":186452,"journal":{"name":"BIOLINK (Jurnal Biologi Lingkungan Industri Kesehatan)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128791392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One potential source of LAB is traditional fermented food. The aim of the study was to isolate and investigate antimicrobial activity of LAB isolated from traditional Batak food, “naniura”. The LAB isolates were characterized by Gram staining, fermentation type and catalase test. The investigation of antimicrobial activity of LAB against pathogenic bacteria were conducted using disc diffusion method. The results showed that 6 isolates of BAL were successfully isolated namely BN1, BN2, BN3, BN4, BN5 and BN6 had characteristics of Gram positive, rod shaped and catalase negative. All selected isolate have heterofermentation type. Four isolates (BN1, BN2, BN5 and BN6) were able to inhibit S. aureus, E. coli and S. typhi with inhibition zone diameters ranging from 6,9 to 12,3 cm. Based on the result, it was concluded that LAB isolated from naniura has potential as a source of probiotics.","PeriodicalId":186452,"journal":{"name":"BIOLINK (Jurnal Biologi Lingkungan Industri Kesehatan)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127046819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Leachate water has high potential to contaminate ground water. The cadmium (Cd) can spread into the soil through a process of impregnation that follows the movement of groundwater flow. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the distance and well construction with cadmium content in the well water dug around the landfill. This research was an observational analytic research with cross sectional research design. The data collection method used in this research were observation, measurement, documentation and laboratory test. The result of laboratory test showed 80% of the wells exceed the quality standard (0,005 ppm). The result of bivariate analysis using chi square test showed that there was no correlation between the distance with cadmium content in dug well water around landfill (sig = 0.173) and there was a relation between well construction with cadmium content in dug well water around landfill (sig = 0.035).
