While the number of service consumers increasingly grows, service providers aim at exploiting infrastructures that enable non-disruptive service provisioning, thus minimizing or even eliminating downtime. Nonetheless, to achieve the latter current approaches are either application-specific or cost inefficient, requiring the use of dedicated hardware. In this paper we present the reference architecture of a fault-tolerance scheme, which not only enhances cloud environments with the aforementioned capabilities but also achieves high-performance as required by mission critical every day applications. To realize the proposed approach, a new paradigm for memory and I/O externalization and consolidation is introduced, while current implementation references are also provided.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"245 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133808920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme is designed by the idea of joint source channel coding (JSCC) and is implemented by Expanding Window Fountain (EWF) codes for the 3D audio bitstreams after source coding of spatial squeeze surround audio coding (S3AC). EWF is one of unequal error protection (UEP) LT codes and the proposed scheme is achieved by that method for the case of two levels. Different from other transmissions with equal error protection (EEP) for each part of bitstreams, when transmitting the two parts of the bitstreams with downmixed mono signals and spatial side information after S3AC coding, this approach provides more protection to the part of spatial side information and comparatively less protection to the downmixed mono signals, and results in the improvement of the performance of the reproduced 3D audio especially on the aspect of the spatial perception. Objective simulation experiment has shown the proposed UEP scheme achieves a better performance than the EEP scheme on the aspect of spatial perception, for the bits error rates (BER) of spatial parameters can decrease dramatically to a low value of about 10-4, but BERs of downmixed mono signals and the case of EEP just decrease slightly to about 10-3.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133857204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These protocols have shown to be useful for many tasks, from proximity verification to secure positioning. Unfortunately, real distance bounding protocols hardly fulfill the claimed property. Attacks at the PHY layer may cause significant reductions on the estimated upper bound. These attacks can be mitigated, not eliminated, by changing the receiver architecture and the PHY layer. Every distance bounding protocol is thus non-ideal. In this paper, we study the impact of non-ideal distance bounding on the reliability of secure positioning techniques. We show that a reduction of 10 meters, which is possible against a real PHY layer, allows the adversary to falsify a position of 21 meters. We also propose two countermeasures to mitigate the problem, and then estimate their efficacy by simulations.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124836037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deduplication is an effective method used to reduce the write traffic of applications thus can be used to extend the lifespan of SSDs. However, traditional deduplication schemes rely on the time-consuming fingerprint computing process to find duplicated data, which may impair the write performance of SSDs. Accordingly, Pre-hashing was proposed to reduce the chances of fingerprint computing thus improving the performance of SSDs with deduplication, but at the cost of degrading deduplication rate. In this paper, we propose NF-Dedupe, a new deduplication scheme that needs no fingerprint computing for flash-based SSDs. NF-Dedupe determines whether a write page is duplicated or not by comparing the write page with its potential duplicated page read from underlying flash chips byte by byte, rather than relying on the comparison of fingerprints. As flash memory is known for its high parallelism and low read latency, reading a page from flash chip and comparing two pages byte by byte introduce lower overhead than the fingerprint computing does. We evaluate the NF-Dedupe via trace-driven simulations. Experimental results have shown that NF-Dedupe outperforms the other approaches and can achieve the deduplication rate ranging from 5.3% to 29.9% and the write latency is improved by a factor of up to 21% with an average of 12%.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134391206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distributed adaptive sensor network considers spatio-temporal challenges simultaneously. By formulating the problem under non-stationary conditions, we proceed showing the superiority of the proposed incremental adaptive algorithm comparing to the classical single point observations methods. To practically prove this efficiency, the proposed algorithms are implemented on a real sensor network dataset recorded from moving vehicles, to be a substantial real-world validation test. The experimental results well support the claim and demonstrate the excellence and competence of distributed incremental adaptive networks for this case.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134535049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, analog two way relaying is successful when the two sender and destination nodes are symmetric. In practical cellular-based mobile communication systems of the likes of Long Term Evolution (LTE), the system is composed of several powerful base-stations and low power users' equipment. Applying classical two way relaying will cause unbearable interference. In this paper we propose applying network coding between two user equipment in the same cell in the uplink direction. We investigate Single Input Single Output (SISO) and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) models for this scenario. We also study the effect of interference of other nodes in surrounding cells.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132055278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These LDPC codes with large minimum distances have lower error floor, linear complexity of encoding and are more practical for hard-decision algebraic decoding. In this paper, we show that finite fields can also be successfully used to construct algebraic low-density lattice codes (LDLC), denoted by structured LDLC. A general framework to construct algebraic LDLC is presented. LDLC constructed by this general framework have comparable performance to the corresponding random codes over addition white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with iterative soft-decision decoding in terms of symbol-error probability. Furthermore, the general framework is extended to complex low-density lattice codes (CLDLC) and results in algebraic CLDLC which perform very well for small dimensions.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":" 16","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131943066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, due to the instability of networks and its fast change, this network selection requires information of the networks in advance, so that it can predict the quality of the networks to connect. This paper proposes a predictive connection manager that is able to choose in advance the best network and technology a vehicle can connect to. This approach will use the information of previous connections to a station or road side unit, such as the throughput and amount of transferred traffic, and combines this information with sensing information of the quality of available networks. With both previous and current information, it will choose the network that has been able to provide the best performance in previous connections and remains with a good quality. The results of the proposed approach, tested in a real vehicular network deployed in Portugal, show that key performance metrics are improved, such as connection range, throughput and the number of handovers, with a general improvement on connection stability.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"337 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116469937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the underlay ISP network interconnection is weak, as the situation is found in China, it is important to provision the CDN bandwidth carefully in different ISP networks. Through measurement studies using real world data (from Tencent Video), it is found that users in large ISP networks can leverage more on P2P service, compared to the case for smaller ISP networks, and this is especially true during heavy load periods. We study systematic strategies for allocating CDN bandwidth given fixed total bandwidth purchasing budget, and the influence of P2P factor. We show that a more optimal strategy would bias towards allocating proportionally more CDN bandwidth to smaller ISP networks. This result from our model and analysis is validated by simulation. This problem has not been considered by past works and has practical implications for improving the operation of real-world VoD service providers.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115740730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through such scheme, each sub-carrier's polarization state, amplitude and phase can be modulated to bear information, and the spectrum efficiency can be further improved. Consider the multi-path fading channel, the channel caused depolarization impairments to POFDM are quantitatively analyzed; to mitigate such impairments, a polarization constellation compensation algorithms is also presented. Furthermore, based on the proposed compensation algorithm, the POFDM's symbol error rate is derived, then the link spectrum efficiency optimization model is established. Through calculation, the optimal modulation ratio is found to maximize POFDM's spectrum efficiency. Finally, both numerical simulations and experimental results show that POFDM can significantly improve the link spectrum efficiency compared with the traditional OFDM scheme.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116605511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
