The firing of converter valves of these large power electronics devices emits radio interferences, which may disturb the operation of nearby other delicate electronics devices. CIGRE, CISPR and IEEE had given guidelines for limits, analytical calculation, measurements and attenuation. In the present work the experiences of measuring radio interference around the valve hall is elaborated for three different operating conditions, including while injecting reactive power into the grid from STATCOM unit.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132496946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even traction applications require wide range of speed control. To achieve speeds greater than rated speeds, Flux Weakening is employed. Due to load perturbations and due to higher speeds, appliance such as Washing machine is subjected to excessive vibrations and thereby affecting the dynamic performance of system. Effective Control approach such as Field Oriented Control is essential for designing a high performance drive system. Cost and reliability concerns should be taken into consideration while employing such control techniques as it requires sensors for detecting rotor speed and position information for its effective functioning. In this paper, a Sensorless Field Oriented Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with Flux Weakening is evaluated. Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) based on stator current controller is used as position-sensorless estimation algorithm and a comparison is performed between controller with sensors (position-encoder) and sensorless controller. Results have demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of sensorless control compared to controller with sensors.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131854236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issues in the conventional TP approaches are resolved by introducing the market-based TP scheme. In the market-based TP scheme, the transmission line owner offers their capacities in the day-ahead market in the same way the nodal entities (i.e., generators and loads) do. The existing market-based TP approach is established under the DC optimal power flow (DCOPF) framework. However, the DCOPF may not be applicable, in case, the line resistances are not negligible or the linear approximations of the trigonometric terms are not accurate. Therefore, the aim of this work is to explore the suitability of the market-based TP mechanism under the AC optimal power flow framework. The scheduling problem is formulated using AC power flow equations and different marginal prices are calculated for the nodal and transmission entities. The proposed approach is validated through suitable studies.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"53 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130334243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The operation cost is compared for uncoordinated (mode 1), charging only (mode 2) and coordinated charging/discharging (mode 3) modes respectively for both winter and summer TOU rates. Impact of battery charging/discharging efficiencies and incentives of V2G energy prices on these results is also discussed. Results show that when vehicle to grid (V2G) prices are made 1.5 times of electricity price for peak hours with battery cost half of current price, reduction in cost for 80 EVs on adopting mode 3 over mode 1 and 2 with 0.95 efficiency is 79.23% and 62.36% with winter TOU rates and 46.73% and 19.57% with summer TOU rates respectively.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"51 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126356049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regards, current work is focused on the development of cost effective flow batteries. In order to reduce the cost of flow batteries, low cost graphitic carbon was used for both positive and negative electrodes to fabricate the soluble lead redox flow batteries (100 cm2) without using any separator. Lead methane sulfonate (1M) and methane sulfonic acid (1M) were used as electrolytes, which plays an important role in reduction and oxidation process of redox flow batteries. The charge/discharge behavior has been studied at constant current of 500 mA, which showed an average efficiency of 79% with an initial discharge capacity of 200 mAh. The cell capacity decreases during the 14–15th cycles and becomes 110 mAh, this loss in capacity has been studied after cut down analysis of cell.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121001959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper deals with an integration of distributed energy resources and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) into an existing grid. There are significant impacts due to PEVs in the existing grid. However they also bring negative impacts to the grid if they are not coordinated properly. The continuous varying load and voltage fluctuations caused by their disordered charging behaviour can be detrimental to the grid. In order to overcome them, an intelligent load-scheduling strategy is applied in this paper. A multi-objective optimization strategy based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used in this paper to minimize two contradicting objective functions such as voltage deviation at buses and the total line loss simultaneously. The applied method is tested on IEEE 17-bus test system. Simulation results show the superiority of the applied method.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124517896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In outdoor substation, the atmospheric air acts as an insulation medium and the electric-fields (e-fields) on the surface of the conductors should not exceed the breakdown strength of air (2122 kV/m rms). Based on the analysis of surface e-fields of substation conductors, one can adjudge whether any redesign in terms of conductor effective radius and clearances are required. One such analysis of surface e-fields in a 765 kV substation in central India is carried out. Charge Simulation Method (CSM) is used as a numerical technique. The surface e-field plot on the substation conductors are reported. The highest e-fields are on the surface of transmission line conductors with 1504 kV/m. Thus, the design should work corona free.","PeriodicalId":185930,"journal":{"name":"2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121242266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
