There is also a region behind the back wall where the blast loads will be attenuated (i.e., lower than the incident blast loads). This paper focuses on defining the attenuated blast load region as a function of the blast wave strength and building dimensions. Characteristic parameters are utilized to present the analysis results, including wave length, wave length normalized by a characteristic building dimension, and normalized standoff distance from the building back wall. Blast load adjustment factors (i.e., ratio of the diffracted to incident blast load) are used to define the blast load attenuation as a function of these characteristic parameters. The purpose of this work was to generate a database of the shock attenuation behind a structure for engineering modeling applications.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116148201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed oscillating frequencies of around 350 Hz in the case of the town gas only, whereas oscillating frequencies of around 200 and 400 Hz were observed in the hydrogen-containing fuel case. We hypothesized that the oscillating frequencies shift may occur by changing the temperature-distribution inside the tube, which was caused by different combustion conditions with the fuel mixture. As a result, the possible oscillating frequencies of not only around 350 Hz but also around 200 and 400 Hz were obtained. Although three types of possible oscillating frequencies were obtained in our previous study, more detailed temperature distributions should be considered to clarify the effect of the changing fuel mixture composition. In this paper, representative one-dimensional temperature distributions were formed by the combination of measured and calculated temperature distributions in the combustion tube for the corresponding fuel mixture. To include the detailed temperature distributions, the acoustic network model was divided into enough small elements to express the temperature distributions, where each element was connected by the transfer matrix. Then, the possible oscillating frequencies were calculated, taking account of the influence of the temperature distributions.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133759470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although this system can reduce the influence of the excitation force of earthquake by making use of frictional force between the bottom surface of the rack and the floor surface together with the fluid force excited by the motion of each rack, design guidelines are not yet established. In this research, to evaluate the fluid force more precisely, the gap between the racks is treated as a two-dimensional gap flow, the pressure loss coefficient at the flow path junction and the top of the flow path were estimated based on the steady CFD calculation and incorporated with the motion model. Our main concern in this paper is the rocking motion. As a result, it was concluded that rocking motion can be suppressed by increasing the pressure loss coefficient at the top of the fuel rack.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"50 3 Suppl 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122213039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the loads that results from this event is a sudden depressurization of the recirculation line. This leads to an acoustic wave that propagates through the reactor coolant and impacts several structures inside the reactor pressure vessel (RPV). The authors have previously published a PVP paper (PVP2015-45769) which provides a survey of LOCA acoustic loads on boiling water reactor core shrouds. Acoustic loads are required for structural evaluation of core shrouds; therefore, a defensible load is required. The previous research compiled plant-specific data that was available at the time. Since then, additional data has become available which will add to the robustness of the bounding load methodology that was developed. Investigations are also made regarding the shroud support to RPV weld, which was neglected from the previous study. This will allow a practitioner a convenient method to calculate bounding acoustic loads on all shroud and shroud support welds in the absence of a plant-specific analysis.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116677576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are covered by heavy lids. During periods of heavy rainfall, the air column in the upper part of the manhole may be compressed to such high level that the lid moves up. Of course, this is a dangerous situation for pedestrians and road traffic. Bolting the lid may provide a solution to the problem, but it is known that air pressurization underneath can result in structural damage.\u0000 A simple model is proposed to describe the lifting of the lid (manhole cover). When the lid moves up, air is allowed to escape so that the lifting pressure decreases and the lid moves down, whereupon the air pressure increases again. This repetition might lead to the realistic phenomenon of the dancing manhole cover. Since the model is strongly nonlinear, interesting dynamic behavior is expected.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131417808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The shut-off valves are widely used in various systems of energy fields, and their use is related to the stability and safety of the system. Due to the throttling effect of supercritical CO2 flowing through the valve, the large temperature drop may cause the dry ice generation, the overpressure and the blockage, which have an important impact on the safety and stability of the whole system. At present, there are few researches on the throttling effect and thermodynamic characteristics of supercritical CO2 flowing through the shut-off valve. In this paper, the pressure and temperature changes before the valve inlet and after the valve outlet were studied, and the field of pressure, temperature and phase inside the valve were analyzed. It was found that the outlet pressure of the shut-off valve increased rapidly after the valve was opened, and the temperature decreased at the same time. With the decrease of system pressure, supercritical CO2 in front of the valve changed into gas-liquid two-phase and gas-phase successively, and CO2 after the valve changed into gas-phase, liquid-phase, gas-liquid two-phase and gas-phase successively. This study is of great significance to the stability and safe operation of energy systems.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121395155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To that end, a series of water/gas, oil/gas and oil/water/gas vibrations measurements were performed at 10, 25, 45 and 80 bar at different liquid and gas rates in a horizontal, 2″, double Uloop test section installed at the Equinor Porsgrunn site. At higher pressures the vibration amplitude decreased inversely proportional to the pressure. This was measured for both oil and water. Based on the vibration data, the forcing spectrum was reconstructed. In this the same decreased trend was observed, indicating that a changed damping is not the cause of the reduced vibrations. In the forcing spectra the main effect was a higher energy content at lower frequencies. No clear shift in the peak frequency was measured.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124049899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work involved the collection of field vibration data, as well as predictive computational models associated with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The goal of this work was to use predictive models to ascertain whether a proposed design change would reduce the vibration levels of the duct under similar operating conditions. The vibration observed in the duct was identified as a flow induced vibration (FIV) which excited the shell modes of the duct walls.\u0000 This case study serves as an example of using predictive computational models (FEA and CFD), calibrated with vibration response data from field measurements, to represent the real world situation as closely as possible within specified budget and schedule constraints. Such calibrated models can be useful for forecasting the effectiveness of various proposed design changes.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130518433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is in part the prediction of the force frequency spectrum at a single bend, part the influence of bends on the multiphase flow behavior and therefore the prediction of the multiphase flow characteristics between bends. In this paper, the evolution of the forces between subsequent bends are discussed including the phase relations of the forces on the different bends. For annular flow, the forces between the different bends are incoherent and are more or less random. However, for stratified and especially slug flow, the forces remain coherent up to high frequencies. This means in a frequency response analysis of a piping structure, the transport velocity of the multiphase structures must be taken into account.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116319440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vibration levels in inlet piping for reactor ‘D’ and ‘E’ were highest, relative to those in reactor ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’. To cope with the vibration, design changes to small-bore branch connections had been implemented to reduce susceptibility to the vibration. A recent increase in production demand made the vibration levels more evident and a production constraint was imposed after an MOV gas seal failure.\u0000 Analysis identified the root-cause as flow-excited acoustic resonance of (almost) coaxial closed side branches in the flow path. The selected vibration mitigation solution involved installing a perforated annulus in the main line, in front of the mouth of the (almost) coaxial closed side branch acoustic resonator. Before fabricating and installing the perforated annulus, it was decided to evaluate its expected performance by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and structural stress finite element analysis (FEA). This paper gives an account of the selection of the perforated annulus as the preferred vibration mitigation solution and its evaluation by means of high-performance computing CFD and FEA.\u0000 The CFD and FEA analysis showed that the perforated annulus would perform as intended and mitigate the piping vibration. The perforated annulus was fabricated and installed in the inlet piping for reactor ‘D’. Piping vibration was observed to be mitigated, even when flowing above the design rate. The perforated annulus vibration mitigation solution was replicated in the inlet piping for reactor ‘E’. The production constraint has since been lifted.","PeriodicalId":185894,"journal":{"name":"Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130700396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
