New coordinating vector for dual decomposition is proposed. The developed decomposition method allows transformation of nonconvex problems into convex ones, preservation of the separability of their dual problems, and overcoming the difficulties in solving the non-linear two-points boundary value problems.","PeriodicalId":185871,"journal":{"name":"IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128333273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This may not be the most efficient heating method and the cost of operation may be quite high. It is not necessary to maintain the water temperature above the minimum allowable temperature outside the operation time. This paper attempts to select a pool heating sequence based on the usage time and other parameters, which will maintain a temperature within the desired range during operation time and minimize losses. Different scenarios are considered and the optimum one is selected so as to have the desired temperature throughout the usage time. This also gives the exact time at which the boiler must be switched on to have the desired temperature for a given set of parameters. This will help in having a more efficient system and reduce the cost of operation as well as controlling the CO/sub 2/ emission.","PeriodicalId":185871,"journal":{"name":"IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129174433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having many transformers and large numbers of consumers in the distribution network significantly increases computation time. A distributed, service-based platform is being developed, with parallelisation functionality for CART as the flagship service. The system will be used to parallelise CART's voltage and current calculations for use in the design of much larger networks, possibly of metropolitan scale. Eventually, more complex scenarios will be addressed, including real-time calculation and simulation of lightning and transient faults and performance testing and optimisation of existing power distribution networks.","PeriodicalId":185871,"journal":{"name":"IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124119636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Energy conversion through an output transformer is done at a frequency much higher than the desired operating waveform frequency. An active rectifier demodulates the switched waveform passing only the desired low frequency waveform to the load. This feature can lead to substantial size and weight reduction in the amplifier as transformer magnetic volume decreases with increasing frequency. The technology allows full low frequency Class-D amplifiers to be realized with comparable efficiencies, but with much higher power densities.","PeriodicalId":185871,"journal":{"name":"IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121314029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, critical hardware system components (such as analogue-digital-analogue conversion) still remain, making the full system design and testing more cumbersome. This paper presents an introductory overview on SDR and work-in-progress concerning the background and design considerations for a basic SDR hardware emulator. Hardware emulation allows fast and low-cost evaluation of possible hardware architectures. An object-orientated software design approach is taken, and the technical issues surrounding the development of hardware models are considered. Finally, a proposed system software architecture is presented.","PeriodicalId":185871,"journal":{"name":"IEEE AFRICON. 6th Africon Conference in Africa,","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115158954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
