Accordingly, a factorial experiment was conducted based on completely randomized design on strawberry (cv. Aromas) in the greenhouse of Department of Horticulture, University of Kurdistan, Sanandaj, Iran. The first factor was two culture media (mixture of perlite and cocopeat with equal volumetric percent, and pumice). The second factor was three concentrations of humic acid (0, 300 and 600 mg/L). The third factor was harvesting period. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the fruits were evaluated in different harvesting periods. Results indicated that yield and qualitative characteristics of fruits were highly influenced by culture medium and humic acid. The highest average fruit yields were obtained in perlite-cocopeat medium (107 g/plant) and pumice medium (85.4 g/plant) from plants treated with 600 mg/L humic acid. The highest average fruit firmness (6 N), total soluble solids (6.19%) and soluble carbohydrate (58 mg/100 g fresh weight) were obtained in plants grown in pumice medium and fed with 600 mg/L humic acid and the highest average phenol (113 mg gallic acid/100g fresh weigth ) and vitamin C (34 mg/100 g fresh weight) were obtained from plants grown in perlite-cocopeat medium and fed with 600 mg/L humic acid. In general, and based on total measured traits, perlite-cocopeat medium, fed with 600 mg/L humic acid as fertigation method, is recommended for favorable quantitative and qualitative production of strawberry (cv. Aromas).","PeriodicalId":185425,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology of Greenhouse Culture","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132517688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first experiment, the red sweet olive cultivar was used as female parent and yellow pear, violet cherry, yellow palm garden and orange olive cultivars were used as male parents. In the second experiment, the orange olive cultivar was used as female parent and yellow palm garden, yellow pear and violet cherry cultivars were used as male parents. In the third experiment, the red cherry cultivar was used as scion and grafted on large red and yellow palm garden cultivars, and red cherry cultivar was used as control without grafting. Manual pollination was used in the first and the second experiments. Based on the results of the first experiment, different pollen sources significantly affected volume of fruit in red olive cultivar (P≤0.05). In the second experiment, different pollen sources significantly affected weight and volume of fruits in the orange olive cultivar (P≤0.05). In the third experiment, different rootstocks significantly affected fruit length of red cherry tomato cultivar (P≤0.05). Results of this research showed that selection of hybrid fruits is possible by fruit volume and weight and also rootstock affects scion fruit characteristics.","PeriodicalId":185425,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology of Greenhouse Culture","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124827097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One method of increasing genetic diversity, as an important tool in plant breeding, is the use of gamma rays to induce mutation. In order to determine the appropriate dosage of gamma irradiation for genetic diversity creation by mutation in strawberry, Kurdistan cultivar, and to study the influence of various doses of gamma ray (zero (control), 15, 30, 60 and 90 gray) on different traits of strawbery, this research was conducted in Faculty of Agriculture, Yasouj University, in 2012-2013. Results showed that irradiated plants had a lower rates in comparison to the control plants for most of the studied characteristics, except for number of leaves, fruit sugar and anthocyanin. Leaf area, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit fresh and dried weight, and fruit volume, shape, and juice decreased with an increase in the gamma irradiation dosage. Moreover, multifoliate and dwarfism were increased in the irradiated plants. The appropriate dosage of gamma irradiation for mutation induction in strawberry, Kurdistan cultivar, for threshold 50% plants mortality (LD 50 ) treated by gamma ray, was approximately 65-70 gray. Therefore, gamma ray intensity in the recommended limit could be used for the highest genetic diversity creation with the lowest plant mortality in strawberry breeding programs such as in fruit quality improvement.","PeriodicalId":185425,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology of Greenhouse Culture","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129195249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted as a factorial with completely randomized design and silica source at two levels (calcium silicate and sodium silicate) and concentration of silica at five levels (0 (control), 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/L) in soil medium, with three replications. At the end of the growth stage, fresh and dry weight of leaf, stem, flower and root, flower diameter, number of flowers, total protein content, soluble sugars and also leaf elements’ concentrations such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, iron, copper and silicon were measured. Results showed that foliar fertilization of plant with silica caused to increase the fresh and dry weight of leaf, stem, flower and root, flower diameter, number of flowers, total protein content and soluble sugars. Also, concentrations of chrysanthemum leaf elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and zinc were increased, but concentrations of iron, manganese and copper were decreased. The concentration of 150 mg/L sodium and calcium silicates was suitable for improving morphological and reproductive characteristics and also for improving adsorption of nitrogen, potassium, manganese, iron and copper. But, for improving the adsorption of zinc and silica, the best concentration of both silicates was 200 mg/L..","PeriodicalId":185425,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology of Greenhouse Culture","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130195656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But some phenomena such as cloudy weather or shortening the length of the day throughout the year, cause restrictions on access to this important source. This is very important for cultivation in controlled environments such as greenhouses, which usually produce off-season. This paper is aimed at evaluating the economic exposure of artificial lighting to increase cucumber production to compensate for the lack of light due to weather cloudiness. For this purpose, by using daily meteorological data of the study area and cucumber production from one of the greenhouses in Hamadan city, which didn’t have artificial lighting system, the damage of cloudy hours was assessed. Daily time series data were collected for the period of April 2007 to July 2010, and the amount of crop reduction per hour of cloudiness was estimated by using an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL). Results showed that on the average, in each production period, atmospheric cloudiness has 3.8% negative effect on greenhouse cucumber production. On the other hand, based on this research’s findings, compensating for the lack of sunlight due to atmospheric cloudiness by artificial lighting in this area isn’t economically feasible, and the benefit/cost ratio is 0.11.","PeriodicalId":185425,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology of Greenhouse Culture","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133709051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
