In the Ambient Assisted Living domain such technologies can be used for monitoring the elderly behaviour, and reasoning about it to detect possible anomalous situations, which could be a sign of the next onset of chronic illness or initial physical and cognitive decline. In this paper we propose a solution that exploits task models describing expected user behaviour, and a context manager able to detect relevant contextual events and conditions determined by the actual elderly behaviour. Planned and actual behaviour are compared to detect if any deviation occurred. The resulting environment is able to generate multimodal actions such as reminders and alarms aiming to provide useful support when such anomalous behaviour is detected.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124542883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How can we quantify this attribute? We define the term coherence of an input vocabulary (e.g., for gesture interaction) based on mental models associated with its entries and explain how coherence can support intuitive interaction. We define mean coherence score as an indirect measure based on guessability of vocabulary entries. As a demonstration, we report the results of a user study in which we applied the suggested method to measure coherence of five gesture input vocabularies for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle navigation. Then, we discuss the obtained results and distinguish the flaw and key vocabulary entries for a deeper understanding of the input vocabularies.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128450653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this increase of such technologies, driver distractions have incredibly grown and they are more and more studied. In cognitive science, numerous studies show how, when a user interacts with two concurrent tasks, the cognitive load of one of them may influence negatively the interaction with the others. In this paper we consider infotainment system in the context of both human computer interaction and cognitive science, to study how an increase in the cognitive load of the infotainment systems may lead to a lack of attention to the driving task and may lead to fatal consequences. We propose a cognitive model in rewriting logic which will be used to model a case study of a user simultaneously using an infotainment system and driving.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128704256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increasing number of animation scenarios, they have grown in range of animatable features. Yet not all transitions can be smoothed: programming systems limit the flexibility of frameworks for animating new things, and force them to expose low-level details to programmers. We present an ongoing work to provide system-wide animation of objects, by introducing a delay operator. This operator turns setter function calls into animations. It offers a coherent way to express animations across frameworks, and facilitates the animation of new properties.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132163923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, in the context of mobile and ubiquitous computing, we have been reminded of the importance of the physical world, and many in HCI over the last decade have been intrigued by the possibilities of new interactive materials. In this talk, I will explore the range of ways that we might want to grapple with the materiality of information --- not just of information infrastructures, or of information-rich objects, but of digital information itself and particularly information representations. I will draw on research from anthropology, philosophy, and science studies to demonstrate how we might incorporate a sense of the material more deeply into the ways that we think about interaction with digital information.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122015443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this tutorial we present djnn, a new way of programming interactive systems that takes as its primary concept coupling between processes. We will take as an example the building of a well-known component of an aircraft cockpit, the primary flight display. The first part of this tutorial will be dedicated to the presentation of the basic principles of djnn, its main concepts and how to build a simple program. Then we will introduce the various control structures and provide an overview of the existing libraries of djnn components. We will pursue by showing how to import graphical components from a SVG file, and how to connect various input modalities. Finally, we will demonstrate a rapid prototyping process through the integration of increasingly realist graphical components.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123171794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From an engineering point of view, evolutionary prototypes are the most challenging because they must be based on a sound software architecture. In the literature, there are only few design recommendations for their systematic development. The paper presents a checklist for designing integrated evolutionary and exploratory prototypes. The approach is based on the idea of underdesign and on supporting object-oriented design principles, concepts and patterns. A case study is presented that shows the applicability of the proposed checklist at the example of a multi-touch editor.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115000840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interaction matters however are often implicitly defined in low-fidelity prototypes without proper specification and documentation. Especially gestures are becoming a powerful interaction channel used with various devices ranging from small mobile phones to large wall-sized displays. Consequently, a need specification and documentation methods arises. Common gesture notations focus on pure textual or graphical approaches, but we argue that hybrid solutions have various advantages, especially in early prototyping phases with cross-functional teams. On the downside, habitual work behavior can foster inefficient work strategies as it is executed with lower levels of awareness and relatively rigidly. We propose the development of an interactive system that can help users to develop beneficial habits and change unwanted ones to reach a target workflow. To achieve this goal, first, we must collect specific information of the users' current and target habits. We do this with the help of BPMN diagrams, which are then transformed to reference nets for analysis. In this form, the current and target diagrams are compared to find similarities and differences, which will guide the interactive system. The workflows, described as reference nets, can then be easily embedded into the proposed interactive system, as such description is formally described and is executable.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129817431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
