However, there is no consistent approach to generically synthesize a product line of such modeling environments that also take into account the user interaction and experience adapted to the domain. The focus of my work is the proposal of a solution to explicitly model user interfaces and interaction of modeling environments so that they can be tailored to the habits and preferences of domain experts. We extend current model-driven engineering techniques that synthesize graphical modeling environments to also take interaction models into account. We formalize the semantics of the interaction models with the Statecharts formalism, which also serves as the underlying execution basis. This is done using a novel statechart refinement technique, to provide and promote reuse and semantic consistency.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133826685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It should be possible to address this shortcoming to provide a better user experience. There is a lack of tools to realize this vision, so we aim to develop a framework that allows third-party developers to build applications that run across multiple co-located devices. Three key related work areas have been identified: proxemics, indoor positioning and multi-device applications. The work is under way to define the framework's architecture and the design of core components, as well as to develop a supporting indoor positioning solution. We will also be developing prototypes in order to perform usability tests to assess if this approach is beneficial to potential users.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123951353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of SAUIs is a complex task since self-adaptivity and context management aspects have to be incorporated in the UI development process. In this paper, we present an integrated development environment (IDE) for model-driven development of SAUIs. This IDE, named Adapt-UI, provides integrated views for UI, context and adaptation modeling. Based on the specified models, final UI code and context as well as adaptation services are generated and integrated in an overall UI framework. This allows runtime UI adaptation realized by an automatic reaction to context-of-use changes. The benefit of our approach is demonstrated by a case study, showing the development of self-adaptive UIs for a university library application, utilizing the Angular 2 JavaScript framework.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121344078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Engineering is worth it, but only when rational ideals accept reflective realities 工程是值得的,但只有当理性的理想接受反思的现实时

Cockton","doi":"10.1145/3102113.3102114","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/3102113.3102114","url":null,"abstract":"Engineering and Creative Design have overlapping traditions, although the latter is four orders of magnitude older than the former. The former has been more normative about design processes than the latter. Norms have differed, with creative design often celebrating the hand-made, and engineering typically exploiting mechanisation. In contrast, norms did converge with scientifically motivated approaches to creative design (e.g., Bauhaus, Ulm, Design Methods movement). The underlying values of Engineering and Creative Design have thus both converged and diverged. Empirical facts however are overwhelmingly convergent, but with only partial evidence of the rational idealised linear ideals of Engineering Design being met. Regardless of the craft space, reflective creative design, where design materials talk back to co-evolve both problem and solution framing, dominates when complete processes are studied. Agile development methodologies are a first step in moving away from the impossibility of Rational Idealised Linear Engineering Design (RILED) towards the realities of creative reflective practice. In this talk, I will present a tactical reframing of engineering ideals within the realities of creative reflective design. Engineering ideals do have potentially worthwhile roles place in creative axiological practices, but these are to support, not to direct. In this talk I will use Abstract Design Situations to contrast the major design paradigms and empirical studies to expose their limitations as a basis for outlining some worth-focused approaches to Interaction Design that can exploit engineering rigour within the realities of creative reflective work contexts.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130378137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this tutorial, we present our discourse-based approach for the specification of (classes of) dialogues. We also explain a previously identified and published duality of discourse- and task-based interaction design according to these approaches to high-level modeling for GUI generation. In addition, this tutorial demonstrates how graphical user interfaces (GUIs) can be automatically generated from such discourse-based models specifying a high-level interaction design. This generation approach is especially useful when user interfaces tailored for different devices are needed. It is based on model-transformation rules according to the model-driven architecture. This tutorial also shows how customization can be included into the generation itself. It presents our approach for managing model transformation rules for customization of GUIs in the context of their automated generation. Finally, this tutorial presents our approach for including custom widgets already during the automated generation, in order to make the result persistent also in case of re-generation.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130392511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, individual eye movements (scanpaths) tend to be complicated and different from each other. Existing algorithms focus on clustering multiple scanpaths into a single representative path, but do not tolerate differences. This may result in excluding some popular elements from the resulting path and the representativeness of the path can decrease. Scanpath Trend Analysis (STA) is one of these algorithms which is being increasingly used. It can be used for identifying trending areas of interest (AoIs) on a web page among multiple users and discovering their trending path in terms of these AoIs. Compared to the outputs of other algorithms, the output of the STA algorithm is the most representative. Since this algorithm considers all given scanpaths while discovering their trending path, it can be negatively affected when the variance is high between the scanpaths. In this paper, we introduce a new parameter to the STA algorithm, called tolerance level. This parameter makes the algorithm more tolerant by allowing the identification of trending AoIs based on a subset of given scanpaths instead of all of them. Our study shows that the STA algorithm can achieve more representative path with a tolerance. Thus, the validity and verification of interactive systems can be investigated with more representative path.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126171023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the case of interactive computing systems specific challenges arise. On the one hand, a high level of automation requires the use of detailed models, which is contrary to the iterative development process, based on the progressive refinement of user interface mockups, typical of user centered development processes. On the other hand, layered software architectures imply a distinction between the models used in the business logic and in the user interface, raising consistency problems between the models at each level. This article proposes a tool supported approach to user interface generation directly from the architectural models of the business logic. In many situations, user interfaces provide similar features inside a specific domain. The identification of the application domain is thus a key factor in supporting the automation of the generation process.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"199 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114271250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Encapsulating awareness information as widgets supports changing runtime requirements. With regard to platforms for the composition of individual collaborative applications, the awareness subsystem has to be easily adaptable. Further, enabling daily Web users without programming skills to customize their awareness support according to preferences and context, is challenging and not supported yet. We propose that utilizing awareness widgets in a context-sensitive awareness adaptation system can support non-programmers to formulate and fulfill individual awareness needs. This paper presents a widget selection process and an adequate visualization for non-programmers. To this end, automated matching and ranking algorithms filter the set of available widgets according to the current context and usage statistics. The fulfillment of preferences is visualized appropriately.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114275769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses the emotions shared by the spectators during a football (soccer) match, the audio of the broadcast video, the analysis of the movement present in the video and manual annotations (when available). The paper describes the design decisions to take user interaction and user information into account when generating the final resulting video. The system also supports queries to extract specific clips, such as dangerous attacking plays of a certain team. The paper presents our preliminary evaluation studies, performance assessment and user evaluation, and the corresponding results, which were encouraging, showing that the creation of these summaries can be successfully done in relatively little time.","PeriodicalId":185267,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130871750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
