The inhibition action of this inhibitor was studied by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. The temperature effect on the inhibition efficiency was studied in the range from 298 to 328K, and the values of activation thermodynamic parameters were calculated and explained. Experiment results show that inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of L-Cysteine concentration, and its inhibition efficiency reaches 92% at 10 −3 M. The inhibition efficiency decreases slightly with the elevation of a corrosive medium temperature.  Analysis of the polarization curves revealed that L-Cyst is considered a mixed inhibitor. The results from electrochemical measurements and theoretical calculations are in good agreement. The morphological changes of the surface during corrosion, in the presence and absence of the inhibitor, were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).","PeriodicalId":18513,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Chemistry","volume":"28 1","pages":"133-145"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89605261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several studies have provided the efficacy of medicinal plants as well as their chemical compounds against stone formation. The present work aims to summarize the antiurolithiatic effect of phytochemicals, including quercetin, rutin, catechin, diosmin, and thymoquinone. In this context, various databases, including PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and google scholar, were searched using keywords like antiurolithiatic bioactive molecules and chemistry of phytomolecules.The results confirmed that phytochemicals, including particularly flavonoid molecules, could be effective against lithogenesis via different strategies such as decreasing the binding between crystals and cells, decreasing the growth of crystals, and increasing magnesium level.  Nevertheless, more studies are required, such as determination of toxicity and clinical studies. This review may help researchers achieve more results about the mechanism and the side effects of phytochemicals administration.","PeriodicalId":18513,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Chemistry","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88254318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, solid granular fertilizers remain by far the most requested. The granular fertilizers production presents several kinds of problems, especially the ternary fertilizers family. The caking is a severe issue that affects granules' physical quality, particularly during storage and transport. It makes them unsuitable for their intended uses. In this work, a new anti-caking agent has been developed to cope with the granular fertilizer caking problem and improve their physical quality. First of all, thanks to the screening design of Plackett-Burman, the effect of seven anti-caking components on the phosphate fertilizer caking trend was evaluated only by eight trials. Next, a mixture design was used to formulate a new anti-caking agent from three components (glycerol, calcium carbonate, and molasses). The screening design was chosen as the most effective components. Finally, from the mixture design results, a special cubic model was postulated and statically validated. The model delivered a wide range of compositions formulated from the three components mentioned above, capable of reducing the caking tendency of ternary granular fertilizer.","PeriodicalId":18513,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Chemistry","volume":"31 1","pages":"115-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88170865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our course for a better knowledge of this medicinal plant which could be developed as phytomedicine, it is of great interest to subsequently characterize the chemical profile and bioactivities of this plant. In the present study we develop an Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection coupled to electrospray ionization and quadrupole time-of-flight (UHPLC-DAD-ESI/QTOF) technique to characterized on line potentially bioactive compounds. Thirteen compounds were identified in active extracts and fractions from Terminalia macroptera Guill. & Perr. heartwood, namely gallic and ellagic acids derivatives, 23- O -galloyl-terminolic acid, 23- O -galloyl arjunolic acid, 4,4’-dihydroxy-Z-stilbene- O -rutinoside and 3,5,4’-trihydroxy-Z-stilbene- O -rutinoside. Antibacterial properties were evaluated against sensitive and resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains and antioxidant activities using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH). Solvent extracts and essential oil were obtained from the aromatic plant's aerial parts by hydroethanolic maceration and hydro-distillation. The analyses of the chemical composition were performed using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The microdilution method evaluated the in vitro antibacterial potential of the essential oil and solvent extracts . The Inhibition of biofilms formation was carried out using a colorimetric biofilm microdilution assay with crystal violet as a dye. The effect of extract and essential oil on the release of nucleic acids was performed using a spectrophotometric method. The time-kill kinetic assay was assessed for hydroethanolic extracts and essential oil. The extraction yield was 0.1%, and the major compounds identified in the essential oil were linalool (43.47%) and cis-α-farnesene (42.67%). The phytochemical screening revealed flavonoids, saponins, phenols, triterpenes, catechin tannins, and quinones. Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) ranged from 2.08 mg/mL to 10 mg/mL. Concerning the modes of action, the essential oil showed its bactericidal effect at 2 hours. The reduction of Escherichia coli biofilms formation was found at 0.21 mg/mL. The essential oil treatments resulted in a release of nucleic acids at a concentration of 2.1 mg/mL. These results justify using the essential oil and hydroethanolic extracts of Aeollanthus heliotropioides as a potential source of molecules with antibacterial activity.","PeriodicalId":18513,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Chemistry","volume":"11 1","pages":"95-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87389181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the nanocomposite materials which are useful in life is epoxy-clay nanocomposites. Epoxy clay nanocomposites have a reasonably wide application in industrial fields such as aerospace, defense, automobile, etc. The purpose of writing this review is to conduct a literature review on mechanical properties in various Cloisite as a filler of Epoxy-clay Nanocomposites. There are several examples of cloisite, namely Cloisite 10A, Cloisite 15A, Cloisite 20A, Cloisite 25A, Cloisite 30B, and Cloisite 93A. Cloisite has the advantage of producing mechanical properties, especially in the tensile modulus and strength, which is more increased than conventional reinforcing materials. These methods' synthesis results were then characterized using TEM, SEM, XRD, and other tests to determine their mechanical properties. The material parameters resulting from nanocomposites' synthesis are well seen from the high Tensile strength and modulus values. The highest increase in mechanical properties was found in the cloisite 93A by the ultrasonic synthesis method or mechanical stirring based on the study results.","PeriodicalId":18513,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Chemistry","volume":"117 1","pages":"54-74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79390340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
