Design/methodology/approach: A research analysis of the world literature on the subject indicates that these issues have yet to be studied from a long-term perspective. In light of the economic system, the author describes the difference and core attributes for emerging leaders. The author uses the case study of the two IT leading companies and their leaders from roots up to final mergers and acquisitions of each other. Findings: The case study shows that in a long-term perspective the key role is played by the founders based on grounded education, experience, embodied entrepreneurship attitudes, ethics, openness for innovations, independence of unclear relations, and mission are crucial to developing with success the company. Research limitations/implications: The research covers only case studies so that it could be extrapolated to prominent players in specific sectors for companies with the activity of more than ten or even 20 years on the market. Practical implications: The research could be used for training or teaching courses related to MBA, postgraduates, or management program study. Based on the review, the other companies can measure the risk with new potential countries in their early stage of new free markets. The leadership model could be duplicated so that marker analysts and decision-makers could conduct an in-depth study about the leaders in certain countries. The in-depth collaborations should have a long-term perspective with a clear and correct leader and/or founder. The students should consider working in companies with solid leadership ethics to build their prospectus careers. Social implications: The public organization and authorities should cooperate and take a donation from ethical companies and leaders. Hiding support from ethical leaders/founders could be taken without obligations. Donations do not mean even PR. Originality/value: This review emphasizes that becoming a leader means possessing skills that should be shaped during education and even socialization. Leaders could cover their unethical behavior or incompetence to became a manager, but it would provide a huge, postponed on time disaster for the company. The paper is addressed to all potential and present leaders, including students, during their study. Keywords: company survival factors, education, leadership, mergers&acquisitions. Category of the paper: Case study, General review.","PeriodicalId":184741,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Papers of Silesian University of Technology. Design/methodology/approach: The article identifies and assesses the diversification of the financial situation of households in the eastern and western regions of Poland. The empirical material used in the article concerns both the whole country and six voivodeships of eastern and western Poland, i.e. Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Podlaskie as well as Dolnośląskie, Lubuskie and Zachodniopomorskie. The figures come from the Central Statistical Office in Warsaw (Social Cohesion Survey). The empirical material collected and ordered was developed in tabular and graphical form, using comparative analysis. Furthermore, all diagnostic features illustrating the financial situation of households in the eastern and western regions of Poland were scored against the background of the entire country, which is a new approach to the research problem undertaken in the article. Findings: The statistical data confirmed the research hypothesis presented in the article, assuming that households in the western regions of Poland are in a better financial situation than in the eastern regions, although there is variation in this respect between individual voivodeships of these regions. Originality/value: The originality of the work lies in the author's approach to the analysis of the research issues and the assessment of the financial situation of households in the eastern and western regions of Poland against the background of the entire country. The work is addressed primarily to politicians at the central level, as well as to local government officials responsible for the conditions, opportunities and directions of regional socioeconomic development, as well as to other decision makers implementing regional development policy in Poland. Keywords: financial situation, household, eastern and western regions of Poland. Category of the paper: research paper.","PeriodicalId":184741,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Papers of Silesian University of Technology. The success factors of Lean tools implementation and the relationship between them are studied. A model of Lean tools implementation in an organisation is aimed to be developed. Design/methodology/approach: A case study method is employed in this study. It is conducted in a manufacturing company from the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. The employed method allows exploitation of a variety of techniques in the investigation process: in-depth interviews, observations, documents and data analysis. The study takes into consideration a systematic literature review and bibliometric network analysis supported by the Vosviewer software tool. Findings: The implementation of Lean Manufacturing approach, along with accompanying tools and methods, is aimed at efficiency and/or quality results of the processes within a company. Selected tools, to be successfully implemented, should support the elimination or reduction of losses related to current process flows. There are many Lean tools available, but most do not fit all organisations and all the kinds of manufacturing processes. Therefore, proper preparation before implementation is an essential issue for any organisation striving for Lean outcomes. The available Lean tools, along with their implementation sequences, are not studied comprehensively in the literature. Originality/value: An organisational-development-driven model of Lean tools implementation is elaborated, based on the literature and empirical investigations. The decision to choose the appropriate Lean tool should be guided by general organisational development. Several factors need to be considered before the implementation process, namely, capabilities, resources, gains and return on expenditure. Top management engagement, appropriate communication and listening to line employees look to be key success factors in Lean tools implementation. The business environment institutions are a group of entities offering consultancy, training, information and financial aid to businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This aid is necessary for the implementation of innovative processes and the development of enterprises. Design/methodology/approach: This paper utilizes subject literature studies, statistical data analysis, results of own research and observation of the economic practice. Findings: Based on the results of primary and secondary research, one can claim that cooperation between enterprises and business environment institutions leads to increased innovativeness of the former. The shrinking number of business environment institutions, reduction of their activity and clustering in more developed regions and cities, all of which have been happening in recent years, pose a great threat to the support small and medium-sized enterprises are able to receive for the implementation of innovative processes. Research limitations/implications: It would be worthwhile to learn the up-to-date opinions of entrepreneurs concerning pro-innovation support provided by business environment institutions. Practical implications: There is a need for wider cooperation between entrepreneurs, local authorities and business environment institutions for sake of building appropriate ecosystems to support the innovativeness of enterprises. The business environment institutions are a key part of such ecosystems, yet their presence in the implementation of innovative processes within small and medium-sized enterprises is insufficient. Originality/value: Study expands the knowledge about activities supporting the innovativeness of enterprises being carried out in Poland by business environment institutions.
