Even when Church’s teaching on afterlife has been widely accepted by the faithful, most Christians still find it hard to accept death as part of their life. Some of the faithful tend to avoid or to question the situation and the people accompanying them because of their unreadiness in facing death. Christians are invited to accept and to recognise death as an inevitable fact, but also as a reality that brings hope for resurrection and everlasting life. This article attempts to explore some biblical, philosophical, and theological perspectives that can underline interrelatedness among death, resurrection, and the everlasting life. Christian reflections of death can be illuminating when seen as perfection and fulfilment of humanity, as a transformation process of human’s life, and as the faithful’s journey towards God the Father.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86636254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Eucharist, Christians gather to commemorate the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ's presence in the Liturgy of the Word is marked symbolically with the book of Evangeliary and with the act of proclaiming the Gospel. The meanings of these symbols in the Liturgy of the Word seem to receive less attention by the practice of replacing Eucharist’s readings with other texts on spirituality. The Evangeliary and the act of proclaiming the Gospel hold an important role in the Eucharist as the symbol and the peak of Christ’s presence in the Liturgy of the Word. When liturgically and correctly administered, the liturgy of the Word is the medium for Christ to be present and to speak to the faithful.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83584830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plato is of the opinion that emotions and passions must be subordinated to reason. Augustine believes that reason, emotion, and lust are to be subjugated to the absolute God since God is the source of harmony. Hobbes dismisses the idea of God as the source of harmony because God is considered as a metaphysical concept that is incomprehensible and cannot be proven empirically. Hobbes’ approach is scientific and empirical. A society should be based not on the idea of God as the source of harmony, but on the power of the leviathan, because in Hobbes’ view the natural state of humans is bellum omnium contra omnes.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78679552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intellectual formation is considered necessary because it orients the seminarians towards their call to be good disciples and their sending as witnesses. Jesus Christ begins his ministry by way of building a community of twelve disciples so that they might have great opportunity to learn from their teacher. In due course, the disciples then become witnesses of Christ’s words and deeds, and are sent to proclaim and to realise the Kingdom of God in the world. These models of learning and formation are applied to the priests-to-be in the Church. The initial formation is a time when seminarians literally become disciples by studying the subjects required by the Church. After their ordination, they will take the role of witness by way of participating in Christ’s offices now carried out by the Church.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81970458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is integrated with theology and other sciences learning to shape the identity of the faculty and to contribute to the development of the community. The focus of this writing is to answer two questions: What are the basic considerations for choosing philosophy learning in this faculty? How can method choice be accounted for? By attending to the faculty’s history, the author finds that the basic considerations for choosing philosophy learning method at the faculty are the history faculty establishment and its academic vision. Historically, the existence of the faculty was related to the efforts of Semarang Archdiocese for priest preparation and local pastoral activist education. Philosophy learning is also related to the faculty’s academic vision that leads the students towards concrete involvement in building the church living in the context of pluralism in Indonesia. Inspired by Heidegger’s idea on phenomenological method, preferences to select existential analysis method for philosophy learning in the faculty contribute to the development of contextual theological reflection as well as to priest and pastoral worker preparation, by involving students in community life, dialogue, and living together in the society, based on the values from the local wisdom that are still relevant today.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79428955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, from the time before the fall of the New Order in 1998 up to now the coexistence of followers of different religions cannot be said to be without problems. The 2004 Indonesian Bishops’ Conference’s pastoral notes reflect the worry that the peaceful coexistence among different religious followers is failing. Nevertheless, the document’s dominant node is expressed in positive attitude and hope. The Indonesian Bishops’ Conference encourages all Christian communities to develop themselves into ‘counter-communities’. This article is aimed at discovering the relevance of the idea ‘counter-communities’ to the problems of coexistence of different religious followers in the Post-New-Order era, which now has been marked with prejudice and mistrust.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73275966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines Pancasila democracy in descriptive ways as well as prescriptive way. These approaches are an attempt to explore Pancasila democracy as an open ideology in its essence. In Indonesia’s history, Pancasila democracy was once used as a tool to legitimize power. However, discourses on the subject matter in its nature must be done in the diversity of rational arguments and cannot depend on the interpretations of the ruler alone. When democracy is isolated from rational discourses, it can get caught up in various problems such as “money politics” and “identity politics” which eventually destroy democracy itself. This article portrays the dynamics of democracy in Indonesia, both in its formal settings and as a building that allows humanity reach its dignity. Pancasila Democracy can be a space for a change towards Indonesia that is more animating to the spirit of divinity, humanity, and nationalism and towards a society with solid physical and spiritual well-being.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"165 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86336028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It goes beyond mind and body, but also expands between the self and the world. At the center of human consciousness through the spiritual moments there is a sense of being deeply related with everything, the sense of being together with the whole universe. This kind of spiritual awareness has been threatened by the modern scientific world. The spirit of modernism to question and to break down nature, religion, and tradition under the pretext of pragmatic utopia of growth has brought humanity into an alarming and frightening phase of world civilization. Fritjof Capra says that the main problem of the existential crisis of modern humans is caused by the crisis of perception, mainly with the influence and errors from science as well as from Cartesian and Newtonian thoughts in perceiving the reality mechanically. Mysticism can be seen as an alternative to liberate modern humans to become authentic persons.","PeriodicalId":18472,"journal":{"name":"MELINTAS","volume":"11 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82999224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
