The technologies offered by these paradigms provide a new way of managing e-Business services and infrastructures with minimum human intervention, i.e. autonomous fashion. However, the dynamic nature of service-oriented architecture (SOA) makes such autonomic management harder. More specifically, defining events, monitoring services, and analyzing anomalistic behavior are quite cumbersome. Autonomic SIA Manager is a cost-effective and robust solution to the problems. In this paper, we present the architecture of Autonomic SIA Manager (ASM), its main components, such as policy decision-making language, interface wrapper, autonomic service event handler. We also conduct a case study to show how ASM manages the SIA effectively.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123444249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Not all compositions, however, are correct or meaningful. For example, an application needs to follow steps in a process in a meaningful order. We study feasibility of using product configuration technology in the composition of an application based on services. On the one hand, product configuration introduces a means and tools for specifying rules and structure upon which correct applications are composed in SOC. On the other hand, product configuration provides a means and tools for deriving correct applications in SOC. In the study, we apply Kumbang product configuration conceptualization for software product families. The results are demonstrated modeling as services a real case example of networked PDM system and deriving different service compositions.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127805147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

UN/CE-FACT's modeling methodology (UMM) is a UML profile for developing B2B processes. The formalisms introduced by UMM's stereotypes facilitate the communication with the software engineers. However, business experts - who usually have a very limited understanding of UML - prefer expressing their thoughts and evaluating the results by plain text descriptions. In this paper we describe an approach that presents an equivalent of the UMM stereotypes and tagged values in text-based templates called worksheets. This strong alignment allows an integration into a UMM modeling tool and ensures consistency. We show how a specially designed XML-based worksheet definition language allows customization to special needs of certain business domains. Furthermore, we demonstrate how information kept in worksheets may be used for the semi-automatic generation of pattern-based UMM artifacts.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132437524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the organic transformation from legacy enterprise applications to SOA applications only has been seen mostly in large enterprises datacenter where services are centralized. This paper discusses the effect of SOA, and specifically the effect of Outside-In SOA previously defined in the increasingly decentralized way in which data centers are deployed and managed. Patterns of adoption of SOA, in combination with emerging technologies lead us to believe that the traditional datacenter owned by a large organization, i.e., the traditional monolithic data center, will evolve into a more federated form, with horizontal specialization creating opportunities for smaller players and emerging economies. The decentralization of the physical datacenter will take place through federated services offered from distributed service providers. This new dynamic will affect large and small business alike.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129683746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of workflows with different characteristics such as representation and logic to satisfy different demands from various problem domains (e.g. engineering, business, and scientific works) have been developed and used. However, many of these languages and their supporting enactment engines are not compatible with each other due to a lack of coherent development standards and interface protocols. An enterprise often involves multiple disciplinary software systems which need different workflow languages to model their activities, so the integration of these languages to support the integrity of enterprise tasks and activities becomes inevitable. This paper describes a new approach which allows different existing workflow languages with their supporting engines to work seamlessly together by introducing a mediation architecture which can maintain the transition states and data consistency among different workflow languages and also coordinate their execution engines. So, a workflow can be represented in different languages and carried out in a distributed environment. An example will be used to illustrate the key functions in the proposed mediating service and to demonstrate the use in a business environment.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116666574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current ITSM architecture adopts ITU as the framework to integrate silos of operational management tools and configuration information to build an end-to-end solution based on best practices. However, it lacks of a systematic means to address an important aspect of IT operation, i.e., managing the knowledge separated in various tools and experts' minds. In this paper, a novel knowledge-enhanced architecture is proposed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of ITSM. The essential contribution of this novel architecture is to involve a Knowledge Management Database (KMDB) which provides assistance for knowledge capture, mining, storage and sharing. The paper will discuss an approach of how to construct such a KMDB with motivating scenarios and detailed description of key components. To validate the approach, a prototype system is developed and evaluated by being applied for problem analysis on a Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) system. The experiment results show a remarkable improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency for practical IT service management operations.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129617091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the implementation of a fine-grained QoS control model in the e-business servers is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a WorkManager-based QoS scheduling framework (WMQ) for e-business servers. This framework hides the complexity of QoS scheme implementations and provides a flexible architecture supporting fine-grained QoS control. A prototype of our framework has been implemented within the open-source server Tomcat. The evaluation of this prototype shows that our approach allows Tomcat to effectively meet the QoS requirement of the applications by fine-grained QoS control. Our experience also shows that the WMQ framework can efficiently simplify and reduce the implementation effort involved in developing QoS-enabled e-business servers.","PeriodicalId":184487,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE'07)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133366239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
