In fact, electrical energy is everywhere, from the smallest home electrical installation to the most complex industrial installation or in any scientific research room. Actually, in the point of view of manufacturers and users, electrical energy must be considered a good thing with great importance and, for this, it must be supplied by the former with quality and used by the latter with rationality and safety. The approach uses wavelets for capturing the fault induced high frequency signals of currents and/or voltages. The captured high frequency signals are then used in conjunction with their energies to determine the faulted line and consequently for making a trip decision. For this purpose, a suitable wavelet for on line protection is chosen and tuned at a suitable band of frequencies. In order to investigate a real time performance of the introduced approach a microprocessor based laboratory prototype has been implemented and tested. Also, it presents a method for calculating zone 2 and zone 3 settings based on the composite current assistance parameter and apparent impedance in the paper. Utility power failures will cause unacceptably high risk to the profitability, existence and growth of the vital aspect of business that depends heavily on uninterrupted power supply. For this reason it is important to develop a method to estimate the reliability of such system, to ensure that it will perform satisfactorily when needed. This paper describes and discusses an approach to predict the reliability parameters of the UPS system using the probability tree method. Important UPS reliability parameters such as failure rates (lambda), mean time between failures (MTBF), and reliability (R), can be obtained from this method. These quantitative reliability parameters can play an essential role in selection and application of the UPS. The model is applied to a distributed utility grid that uses three gas turbine based distributed generators (D.G.), generating power at distribution voltage level (415 volts) and these are connected to a MV grid through a transformer. These DGs are dynamic devices & hence affect the dynamic behavior of the distribution grid. The transient simulation in this paper is done using MATLAB SIMULINK. Hence, when studying a power system dynamically, time invariant system behaviour could not be assumed. Therefore, for stabilization of the output voltage at the terminals of a generator, an advanced dynamic control system is required. In this paper, the use of self-tuning regulators for controlling the generator's voltage and improving dynamic performance of the system is suggested.
