Piwowarczyk","doi":"10.17729/ebis.2019.5/4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17729/ebis.2019.5/4","url":null,"abstract":"The shunting of welding current during the process of spot resistance welding is a phenomenon which should be taken into consideration both at the design stage of load-bearing structures and during the process of their fabrication. As regards the intensity of shunting, the most important parameter is the distance between neighbouring welds (weld pitch). In spite of technological guidelines concerning the size of the pitch, scientific publications lack information about the correlation between the distance between welds and the size of the weld nugget. The article presents results of individual research aimed to analyse the effect of the pitch size on the diameter of the weld nugget. The welding process was performed using a robotic welding station. As a result of exposure to extreme conditions, the structural material of the vessel degraded and corroded significantly. The corrosion damage was identified and imaged using a Phased Array technique-based ultrasonic method. The subsequent stage of investigation involved hydraulic tests and the recording of acoustic emission signals. Stress concentration fields in damaged areas were identified using the FEM-based simulation method. The test results will be used to develop the complex methodology enabling the evaluation of the technical condition of pressure vessels used in the petrochemical industry. The ob-jective of the tests discussed in the article was to identify the effect of various surface preparation methods, including cleaning, grinding, atmospheric plasma treatment and the ATOP method on the strength of adhesive-bonded joints. The tests involved the use of specimens made of aluminium alloy EN AW 5754 as well as specimens made of glass fibre-reinforced epoxy-based plastics. The specimens were subjected to overlap adhesive bonding involving the use of Araldite two-component epoxy adhesive (Huntsman). The article presents results of the static shear test (of the overlap joints) in relation to a given surface preparation method applied before the adhesive bonding process. The highest strength of the adhesive-bonded joints made in the aluminium alloy was obtained in relation to the ATOP method-based treatment. In addition, the above-named method makes it possible to properly prepare a cleaned surface by forming a protective layer ensuring proper surface preparation for several months. Comparative tests involving the use of the radiographic and the ultrasonic method revealed the possibility of applying ultrasonic technique when defining quality levels in relation to brazed joints in thin-walled pipes. Żudra","doi":"10.17729/ebis.2019.4/4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17729/ebis.2019.4/4","url":null,"abstract":"The development of surfacing materials deposited on elements exposed to extreme wear at high temperature is based on investigating the correlation between the hot hardness of the weld deposit and its alloy system. The article discusses the methodology and results concerning the hot hardness of deposited high-chromium cast irons characterised by various doping degrees, e.g. 450H30M, 500H22B7, 500H22B7M7W2F and 300H25S3N2G2 as well as nickel-carbide-chromium alloy 500H40N40S2GRC. Related tests revealed that the hot hardness of the weld deposit depends primarily on the presence and types of carbides formed in the weld pool. The hardness of relatively low-alloy high-chromium cast irons decreases along with an increase in temperature and increases along with an chromium content of up to 30% and a carbon content of up to 5%. Chromium, niobium, molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium-surface alloyed alloys retain their hardness up to a temperature of 650 °C. In terms of the above-named alloys, an important role is played by niobium, acting as a modifying agent and moderating the growth of primary chromium carbides and forming hard cubic niobium carbide. Materials used in the tests, i.e. the Castolin CDP® 1001, CDP® 4666 and CeraMetal® HCCr plates were made using the automated arc welding technology. Reference materials used in the tests were both Polish and overseas abrasion-resistant plates. Because of the fact that martensite-structured steel DOCOL 1200M is hardened when exposed to deforming force, it is used to make energy absorbers or car header panels. Test joints, made using a robotic welding station, were subjected to macro and microscopic metallographic tests, hardness measurements and strength tests. The obtained test joints were subjected to strength verification performed in accordance with PN-EN ISO 14273:2016. The tests demonstrat-ed that excessively high clamping force combined with relatively low welding current do not guarantee the obtainment of a joint characterised by required strength. However, by increasing welding current and reducing clamping force it is possible to increase the strength of welded joints. The aforementioned models include the well-known Mayr and Cassie models and their well-known Schwartz extensions with the power functions of the Mayr and Cassie voltage as well as the increased dissipation of energy within the high-current range. The modified models contain residual conductance, enabling the determination of arc ignition voltage. A similar approach was applied to modify the approximating functions of voltage and current characteristics used in the Pentegov model.
