In this topology, usually, a DC-DC converter performs the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and an inverter is responsible for controlling the grid-current. For the DC-DC stage the three-phase series resonant converter (SRC3) is chosen thanks to the advantages that it exhibits. However, it is inadequate for the accomplishment of MPPT, due to its efficiency strongly depending on the implemented deadtime and switching frequency. Then, this paper proposes a conceptual modification, i.e., a dual-stage inverter in which the inverter stage is responsible for the MPPT and the grid-current control. In addition, the DC-DC converter operates with constant duty cycle and frequency. Such configuration requires a new concept, introduced as Behavior Matching. It serves as a fundamental feature for the DC-DC converter to reproduce the PV array I-V characteristic when they are connected, without control action. The maximum power operating point (MPOP) is found by maximizing the direct axis current, obtained by Park's transformation from the inverter, through the perturbation and observation algorithm (P&O). Any specific measurement to realize MPPT is not needed. The galvanic isolation is achieved by using a high-frequency transformer. The converter stages are modeled in order to obtain small-signal transfer functions that are used to design PI compensators. Three controllers are used in the system: one for the output voltage of the PV array, one for the DC link capacitor and another for the sinusoidal three-phase output currents. The electronic ballast is formed by a self-oscillating command circuit and an additional circuit. The additional circuit is used to guaranty the rated power of the fluorescent lamp through the voltage gain variation of the resonant filter. Thus, the switching frequency changes based on feedforward control to keep the nominal lamp power. The UPS system is composed by two single-phase PWM converters in order to perform the active power line filter functions. The series converter acts as a series active power filter, which works as a sinusoidal current source in phase with the input voltage. The parallel converter acts as a parallel active power filter, which works as a sinusoidal voltage source in phase with the input voltage, providing sinusoidal voltage with low total harmonic distortion (THD). The detection of the angle-phase is performed using a single-phase PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) structure, which is based on instantaneous active power theory. The PLL system has been implemented into two-phase stationary reference frame. Thereby, a fictitious quadrature voltage needs to be generated, which must be orthogonal to the measured utility voltage. Both the control algorithm of the UPS system, which uses synchronous reference frame (SRF) method, and the active power flow that occurs through the UPS system will be described and analytically studied. The system consists of a ZETA converter associated with a full bridge inverter operating at low frequency. The Zeta converter, operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), plays the main role in this arrangement, producing a rectified sinusoidal current waveform synchronized with the electric grid. The full-bridge inverter, connected with the Zeta converter, provides de AC conversion inverting the current each half cycle. Initially it is presented the analysis of the Zeta converter operating in DCM, as well as a design criterion. However, in several situations it is necessary to establish a low current difference among magnets of the same group, powered by the same power supply. That can be accomplished by using an Active Shunt in parallel with the magnet for which a different current setting is necessary. Recently a new model of current power supply was designed and tested. In the total 40 units of the new model were built and 36 were installed in the Light Source, operating as Active Shunts in parallel with quadrupole magnets. The chosen topology was the Full-Bridge, since it allows both adding as taking away current, so being able to work in all operation quadrants. The strategy to drive the switches was the unipolar PWM control, which does not cause current discontinuity near null output values, with lower ripple and THD and higher efficiency. It is shown that the voltage in the system can be controlled in a simple way. The VSC is connected in series with the secondary of the transformer of the system imposing a voltage, which has controlled magnitude and phase in quadrature with the current on it. The voltage control at the transformer terminals (secondary side) is done changing the VSC voltage magnitude for two conditions for its phase: +90˚ or −90˚ from line current. The analysis has shown that the Transformer Series VSC can control the voltage in an effective way as in the case of using a conventional STATCOM or can control the power flow as an SSSC. The operation as a voltage controller or a power flow controller depends on the relative size of the impedance in series with the TSVSC and the current phase. Despite that, cost still a concern, when compared with others energy resources. Therefore, efficiency improvement can be seen as one way for cost reduction. Use of maximum power point tracker allows generating more energy with the same amount of panels, which means more energy per panel. Nevertheless, the whole power processing has more than panels. It also includes converters, inverter, electrical motor, pump and batteries, which store energy for further use during solar outrage. The aim of this paper is to show how to achieve an effective photovoltaic pumping system without batteries. In this solution the role of batteries are replaced by fluid storage and, steady state operation depends on the amount of available power. Evaluations of all system devices, for each processed power level, allow to conclude about their efficiency and to clarify how they can be controlled to make the whole system operates at maximum efficiency level.
