There are 131 species of birds recorded in the area, among which 101 are breeding and 30 occur during migration or found in breeding season having this site as part of their foraging range. The site fits several criteria of IBA: A1, B1a, B1b, as well as the criteria of PBA: it hosts a number of globally threatened and nationally threatened species, as well as the regional endemics. The site faces a number of threats, related to poaching, overgrazing, uncontrolled mowing, arsons, small Hydro Power Plants, and potentially – metal mining. The existing Yeghegis State Sanctuary covers only 17% of the valuable ecosystems and doesn’t function properly. It is proposed to evaluate the area as an Emerald Site, with further development of the site’s management plan. Such a management plan should consider extraction of the area from the public hunting lands, development of sustainable grazing and mowing schemes, improvement of the local communities’ livelihood through development of wildlife tourism, and an extensive training and educational program.","PeriodicalId":182682,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Zoology and Animal Biology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129849698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We provide a molecular characterization to qualify its now completed morphological description and to compare with related taxa. Sequences of the 18S rDNA and ITS-rDNA datasets of specimens of P. kashmirensis were generated for assessment of gene diversity and the phylogenetic analyses. Comparative sequence analysis indicated interspecific variation between P. kashmirensis with different species of Pomphorhynchus was 0.2-1.4% and 2.4-36.4% based on 18S rDNA and ITS-rDNA datasets, respectively. The ITS-rDNA region is more variable than 18S rDNA within members of the family Pomphorhynchidae and it appears appropriate for assessment of their biodiversity. Our phylogenetic analyses showed that taxonomic position of the species P. kashmirensis is closely related with P. tereticollis and P. laevis. Also, the systematic status of Tenuiproboscis and Longicollum is uncertain within the family Pomphorhynchidae. Therefore, further molecular investigations will be needed for better understanding of the phylogenetic relationships in this family.","PeriodicalId":182682,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Zoology and Animal Biology","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129701015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the damage to hepatopancreas tissue in mud crab Scylla sp caught in the mangrove area in Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The number of crab samples examined was 75 individuals with three sampling times with an interval of 1 month from July to September 2019. Histological examination was carried out on the hepatopancreas using the procedure for making histological preparations. The results of histological examination of the hepatopancreas found bacterial colonies, damaged epithelial desquamation, and necrosis. Tissue damages and Hg-absorption are thought to be due to changes in the environment where samples were taken in the mangrove area.","PeriodicalId":182682,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Zoology and Animal Biology","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121382520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 900 hatching eggs were individually numbered, weighed and stored for 3 d, 7 d or for 15 d in a climate-controlled room of 16°C and 75 % of relative humidity. After storage period, eggs were reweighed and divided into 5 replications of 60 eggs each. Then, eggs were incubated in the incubator at a temperature of 37.7◦C, relative humidity of 55 %, and turning once an hour until 18 d of incubation. At d 18 of incubation, the eggs were candled, and fertile eggs were transferred from the turning trays to the hatching baskets. During the last 3 d of incubation, the transferred eggs were checked individually every 3 h for hatching events and hatchability. After pull out at d 21.5, chicks were raised to 12-Wk-old of age for post-hatch growth measurements. The results showed that the egg weight loss increased with storage duration (p= 0.0036). The egg weight at setting and day old chick weight were significantly higher (p<0.0001) in 3 d stored eggs compared to 7 d and 15 d stored eggs. Hatchability significantly decreased (p<0.0001) with egg storage duration while, embryonic mortality increased (p<0.0001) with egg storage duration. Eggs stored for 3 d and for 7 d attained the different hatching stadia at significantly (p < 0.0001) earlier time points compared to 15 d stored eggs. The chicks weight up to 12 week, feed intake and weight gain were significantly higher (p<0.05) in 3 d stored eggs group compared to 15 d stored eggs group. It can be concluded that Sasso broiler breeders eggs should not be stored more than 7 d in tropical conditions.","PeriodicalId":182682,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Zoology and Animal Biology","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122266272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
