They offer attractive features such as flexibility and large active areas at a low cost; they are energy efficient and have higher illumination levels compared to silicone based LEDs. In addition, the utilization of OLEDs have increased in devices such as smart mobile phones and TVs because of their low thickness. This paper investigates the performance of an OLED based visible light communications (OVLC) system, using a curved and flat OLED with multiband carrierless amplitude and phase (m-CAP) modulation for m = 2 at different angles of incidence on the optical receiver. It is shown that the BER performance is improved (i.e., below the forward error correction (FEC) limit of 3.8×10−3) with the curved OLED when the optical receiver moving along a circular path for the viewing angles greater 40° compared to the flat OLED, which is advantageous in device to device communications.","PeriodicalId":182429,"journal":{"name":"2019 15th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127903900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in many respects, this technology is in its infancy and requires further research efforts in several areas. This work presents a flexible network architecture named flexible light (Flight), which is designed for VLC to tackle existing mobility challenges in the network environment. Flight proposes a low-latency handover system that decreases the handover delays to a few tens and hundreds of milliseconds. By means of experiments, we emulate and evaluate indoor mobile network scenarios using only VLC technology.","PeriodicalId":182429,"journal":{"name":"2019 15th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"243 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121459379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For relatively large-space indoor scenarios, the development of appropriate spectrally-efficient multiple-access (MA) techniques enables efficient handling of multiple users, in particular, in dealing with the limited modulation bandwidth of the light-emitting diodes. In this paper, we present a comparative study between different MA techniques proposed in the recent literature for VLC networks. The most appropriate schemes for large-scale network deployments are further investigated in different scenarios to contrast their performance in terms of the achievable throughput.","PeriodicalId":182429,"journal":{"name":"2019 15th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133612642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we experimentally investigate the impact of fog on the optical camera based VLC technology for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. A range of meteorological visibilities between 5–120 m is considered based on realistic inter-vehicle distances in practical vehicular environments and using a real car taillight as the transmitter. We show a reduction in the index of modulation of the signals from 1 to 0.75 and 0.5 to allow for tracking purposes of the light source when sending ‘0’ symbols. The results show that, the link is error-free up to 20 m meteorological visibility for the three modulation index scenarios and degrades considerably below 10 m meteorological visibility.","PeriodicalId":182429,"journal":{"name":"2019 15th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115932911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different approaches on the physics of THz radiation are discussed, from the Radio Frequency (RF) perspective, as well as from the Far Infrared (FIR) optic signals’ perspective and Nano electronics’ and molecular electronics’ perspective. Experiments with THz Continuous Wave (CW) frequency domain spectroscopy are presented. The goal of the experiment was to determine a frequency band with constant received power, high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and no water absorption lines near such potential frequency band. From spectroscopy experimental result suitable frequency bands with bandwidth of 20 GHz to 50 GHz were found, what promises the possibility of achieving high communication data rates in next few years of several hundred Gb/s over distances about 1 km using THz waves. So, the relations between transmission media spectroscopy measurements and channel amplitude frequency characteristic was shown. From the instrumentation description it is also evident that, the experimental platform used is suitable for research and, as well for the education purpose, in communications’, sensors’, and materials’ courses and related curses.","PeriodicalId":182429,"journal":{"name":"2019 15th International Conference on Telecommunications (ConTEL)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114362168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
