Using an electric power analysis device (for this work purpose it will be a smart-meter) and a personal computer it is proved that it is possible to monitor and register electric power quality anomalies, such as long interruptions, voltage dips/swells and frequency oscillations. Through an application developed in Java, a user can view real-time electric parameters, check for electric power quality anomalies and assess load diagram of previous days. Experimental results regarding the application performance are also presented with the respective conclusions.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129090591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable energy sources, active users and electric vehicles play a fundamental role in power systems, which has supposed a new topic research. In this scenario, the figure of prosumer has gained relevance due to the multiple advantages that they can contribute to improve the behavior of power systems and to achieve energy and cost savings. In particular, special attention is focus on photovoltaic (PV) arrays integrated in residential buildings with energy storage systems (ESSs), such as batteries or ultracapacitors (UCs) or even a combination of both in a hybrid energy storage system (HESS). This paper presents an energy management strategy to exchange energy between the batteries and the UCs that form a HESS installed with a PV array in a prosumer dwell in order to maintain its UC bank available to support the energy requirements during the most time possible.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114244219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software Defined Networking (SDN) enables a greater degree of dynamism and simplification for the deployment of future 5G networks. In such networks, the controller plays a major role by being able to manage forwarding entities, such as switches, through the application of flow-based rules via a southbound (SB) interface. In turn, the controller itself can be managed by means of actions and policies provided by high-level network functions, via a northbound (NB) interface. The growth of SDN integration in new mechanisms and network architectures led to the development of different controller solutions, with a wide variety of characteristics. Despite existing studies, the most recent evaluations of SDN controllers are focused only on performance and are not up to date, since new versions of the most popular controllers are constantly being released. As such, this work provides a wider study of several open-source controllers, (namely, OpenDaylight (ODL), Open Network Operative System (ONOS), Ryu and POX), by evaluating not only their performance, but also their characteristics in a qualitative way. Taking performance as a critical issue among SDN controllers, we quantitatively evaluated several criteria by benchmarking the controllers under different operational conditions, using the Cbench tool.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126098542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major disadvantage is the dependence of the wind's velocity and direction to maximize the power production. Actually, wind is unpredictable and the availability of wind energy is not constant. Once it's possible to deal with the wind velocity on the blades by controlling the pitch angles, is also possible to deal with the wind direction deviation by controlling the yaw angle, which is already done in every wind-turbine with a yaw-drive system. For those who are free-yaw drive, vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWT) and low power horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT), it's important to maximize its production at least until the nominal conditions, since its power is already lowest and the production almost never reach the nominal condition. This paper analysis the differences between the real power production and the ideal power production, based on two low-power HAWT models, with the objective of showing the power that is being lost. To maximize the production of the free-yaw drive turbine a semi-active control system magnetorheological based will be implemented to brake it when its need and to perform the wind's direction tracking, with the objective of concluding the influences of control systems in its power produced and to demonstrate how a brake model of magnetorheological fluid can perform a track on the wind direction.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"59 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132604633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, high spectral and power efficiency requirements can be only achieved by multilevel modulations and efficient power amplification. This seems contradictory, due envelope variation of multilevel constellations that can compromise efficiency of power amplification. These restrictions can be overpassed by a multi-amplifier/antenna transmitter compatible with efficient and low cost saturated nonlinear amplifiers combined with a frequency-domain receiver for broadband millimeter wave systems. Based on this multi-amplifier structure it is possible to define a double layered structure where each amplification branch is connected to an antenna array to achieve both constellation and power directivities, assuring at same time similar performances to systems using transmitters with 2-dimensional antenna arrays.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115259704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tested algorithms rely on distance and angle measurements obtained from received signal strength (RSS) and angle-of arrival (AoA) information, respectively. The measurements are then used to derive a convex estimator, based on second order cone programming (SOCP) relaxation techniques, and a non-convex one that can be formulated as a generalized trust region sub-problem (GTRS). Both estimators have shown excellent performance assuming a static network scenario, giving accurate location estimates in addition to converging in few iterations. Here, we test their performance considering different probabilities of communication failure between neighbour nodes at the broadcast phase. Our simulations show that their performance holds for high probability of communication failure and that convergence is still achieved in a reasonable number of iterations.","PeriodicalId":182115,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Young Engineers Forum (YEF-ECE)","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131346496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
