Indigenous Australian people first used emu oil for its healing and pain-alleviation properties. Currently, emu oil is commercially available for topical and oral administration, marketed as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant formulation with reparative properties. A limited number of clinical trials have shown indications of efficacy for topically-applied emu oil. More recently, well-controlled pre-clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of orally-administered emu oil in inflammatory intestinal disorders. Consequently, emu oil could form an adjunct to conventional treatment approaches for disorders affecting the gastrointestinal system.</p>\u0000 </section>\u0000 </div>","PeriodicalId":18083,"journal":{"name":"Lipid Technology","volume":"29 3-4","pages":"28-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1002/lite.201700009","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71956013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
