It is a time free reliable multicast protocol that ensures integrity, validity and agreement properties of message delivery to all members of a group of cars. In particular; there is a need for reliable multicast in which any message transmitted is either received by all members of a group or by none of them. The asynchronous reliable multicast protocol guarantees reliable delivery of messages in presence of omission failure and crash failure of some cars independently of timeliness properties of the system, and even in the presence of timing errors in the environment. Asynchronous reliable multicast service is very necessary in VANETs particularly, because of cars mobility model and speed which may break communication links between cars.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122949299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some signal features can be reflected by their discontinuous structure. In general, a mathematical signal transform carries more features than a raw signal. Thus, for analyzing an intercepted signal in a totally blind environment, one can benefit from the information the signal spectrum offers through the Fourier Transform. After sensing the spectrum, the characteristics extraction method must be applied. In this paper, the Wavelet Transform is used, as it exhibits excellent ability to analyze a signal. Also introduced in this paper is an improved algorithm that automatically identifies bandwidth signal boundaries in a determined frequency range. The proposed algorithm is based on the local maxima of the Wavelet Transform modulus. In blind conditions and in a noisy environment, this approach grants good performance.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133876357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these attacks utilize IP spoofing to conceal the actual source of the attack. In this paper, Hop Count Filtering (HCF), presented by Wang et al., is extended by utilizing both Round Trip Time (RTT) and Hop Count (HC) to detect IP spoofing where RTT calculation is possible. Based on one month traceroute data from 6 different sources to more than 380 destinations, an analysis is conducted to illustrate how the HC & RTT vary as seen by IPs in the same Autonomous System (AS) and same country, IPs in the same country but different AS, and IPs in different AS and different country. Results show that although IPs in the same AS have a high degree of similarity in terms of HC, the RTT can be used in conjunction with the HC to better differentiate between these IPs. RTT provides valuable information that would help improve the efficiency of HCF technique which solely relies on HC.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"56 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113938711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mammography is an effective imaging modality for early diagnosis of breast cancer. Understanding the nature of data in breast images is very important for developing a model that fits well the data. Gaussian distribution is widely used for modeling the data in breast images but due to the asymmetric nature of the distribution of gray levels in mammogram, Gamma distribution is more suitable. Exploiting Gamma distribution for modeling the k-mean method, we developed an efficient technique for the segmentation of mammograms. The approach was tested over several images taken from mini-MIAS (Mammogram Image Analysis Society, UK) database. The experimental results on mammogram images using this technique showed improvement in the accuracy of breast segmentation for breast cancer detection.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127740620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The next generation of DVB-based GEO satellites, supporting real-time multicast services, is characterized by the OBS (On-Board Switching) and multiple spot beams technologies. In this paper we focus on the efficient transmission of IP multicast over satellite DVB and on its security. For this, we propose a new encapsulation method called Enhanced ULE, derived from the ULE (Unidirectional Lightweight Encapsulation) standard encapsulation method. Our proposed encapsulation scheme adds zero overhead to ensure good link efficiency and preserve the expensive satellite resources. The EULE can get easily adapted to the existing OBS approaches, namely the label-switching and the self-switching, in order to ensure an efficient filtering and multicast forwarding. Since the security of multicast transmission is an important concern for operators to protect against eavesdropping, we also propose a secure version of the EULE called SEULE which provides all security services. The analysis of the proposed SEULE with the two switching approaches is presented, simulated and discussed.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115582882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key idea to solve the problem of the mixed priority strategy is the technique of the Shadow server approximation. Specifically, we present a single-cell WiMAX environment in which the base station allocates subchannels to the subscriber stations in its coverage area. The subchannels allocated to a subscriber station are shared by multiple connections at that subscriber station. To ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) performances, two Connection Admission Control (CAC) mechanisms, namely, threshold-based (tb) and queue-aware (qa) CAC schemes are considered at a subscriber station. Then, based on the queueing model, both the connection-level and the packet-level performances are studied and compared with their analogues in the case without CAC. The connection arrival is modeled by a Poisson process and the packet arrival for a connection by a Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). Several performance measures are derived.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115886673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, many solutions were proposed in the literature to reduce the power in cellular communications while maintaining the quality of service, in the purpose of achieving, what is known now as “Green Communications”. In this paper, we are interested in power-efficient methods altering the transmitted power of base stations, especially Sleep Mode and Cell Zooming techniques. After presenting the advantages, drawbacks and implementations of these two green solutions, we will introduce a new algorithm that should be implemented and applied on the base stations to reduce their total power consumption. This algorithm considers several cases including Cell Zooming and combination of Sleep Mode and Cell Zooming depending on the cell loads and mobile distribution. It also computes the power needed in each case and then chooses the most power-efficient scenario. Moreover, we will study the performance and efficacy of implementing our algorithm in some practical cellular network settings.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"65 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132531954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In LTE, the current standardized mechanism is the received signal received power (RSRP) which is performed on the downlink path. Yet, due to the imbalances which are embedded between the uplink and the downlink path it necessary to take the uplink effect into consideration. To achieve this goal, a linear combination between the uplink and the downlink signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) was considered. Results show that in the case of asymmetric traffic distribution between the two paths in an interference limited scenario, the algorithm provided no gain. Yet in case of high imbalance between the two paths (uplink & downlink) and in attempt to move to a cell with lower imbalance, the algorithm provided a limited gain in the average throughput of users for asymmetric traffic.","PeriodicalId":180400,"journal":{"name":"2012 Symposium on Broadband Networks and Fast Internet (RELABIRA)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128666920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
