We describe a rare case of probable mucormycosis in a 32-year-old man with diabetes, and COVID-19 antibodies with no history of hospitalisation or fever and negative RT-PCR test for covid 2 months back. We also performed a systematic review of our cases encountered in last 1 year and identified five peculiar cases of COVID-19 associated oromaxillofacial complications/mucormycosis. Of the six cases included in our review, diabetes mellitus and use of immunocompromised drugs were the most common risk factors. This article provides potential information about post COVID-19 dental complications, and highlights on the suggested treatment policies for oral health practitioners.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134275822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It basically means, biocompatible materials should not have a negative impact on the recipient. Currently, there are literally thousands of different components that makeup the materials that are used in common dental procedures, with more being developed each year. Scientific literature is now reporting on the importance of using the most biocompatible material for the patient. Research is finding that not only using the least reactive material is important, but also how that material may interact with other materials that may have already been implanted into the oral cavity. Unfortunately, even today, dental procedures are often designed simply for the functionality of the treatment, or for cosmetic purposes, even though it is well established that all foreign materials introduced into the human body will elicit an immune response. Therefore, materials that are being used, which are not investigated for reactivity prior to treatment, pose a potential risk of toxicity, or allergic reaction to the individual patient. Since the mouth is considered the most hostile environment in the human body, it is critical to understand and evaluate the long-term effects of dental materials, since these materials are often used due their lasting durability.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"697 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122984553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a very serious condition and related to high rates of morbidity and mortality. Case report: A patient with a previous diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, in disease progression, reported the appearance of ulcers in the oral cavity, multiple bleeding skin lesions, severe pain and persistent fever for 15 days, which started after the use of antibiotics. The clinical examination showed involvement of the ocular, oral and urogenital mucosae, body, scalp, back and palms, with crusty, bleeding and coalescent lesions. The dentistry team worked throughout the hospitalization period and oral care. Conclusion: The diagnosis and care of paraneoplastic pemphigus patients is multidisciplinary. The dentist has a fundamental role in the team, aiming at the patient integral care, providing comfort and a better quality of life.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125193147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, the characteristics of the oral pain that allow it to be identified as a particular form of pain are an impediment to its classification in a certain category: through functional lesion/disruption of receptors, of neuropathy or cortical type. Based on their professional experience and the scientific data from the specialized medical literature, the authors raise the hypothesis of the existence of a neuronal irrigation deficiency, manifested both at the conductive sensory fibers of the influx and, preferably, in the sensory-sensorial cortex for pain and taste, or their association. According to the hypothesis, neural irrigation is responsible for installing a shortage of energy production and use, as well as the local synthesis of excess reactive oxygen species that engages the disruption of conduction of the thermoalgesic nervous influx generated in the oral/lingual mucosa.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115796500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PubMed and Google Scholar citations revealed only one report of fusion and internal resorption in the same arch/tooth. However, the present case report’s dental inquiry revealed a history of a geminated maxillary left lateral incisor tooth [# 10] in addition to a dental trauma more than 20 years ago, where both teeth [#s 08 & 09] were traumatized. Tooth [# 09] was avulsed and replanted back into dental alveoli under an unusual circumstance. The clinical and radiograph analysis of these two teeth revealed their enduring involvement with the external/internal root resorptions as well. Patient reported, no other significant past dental history, except routine dental visits and treatments. The clinical and radiographical evaluation, findings, and diagnosis are discussed. The proposed treatment plans for management of the unilateral geminated tooth, external/internal root resorptions and clinical problem of severe occlusal wear provided as of Fall 2020 are also described.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126757244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
