In this study, 1238 high-quality in vivo Raman spectra in the range 800-1800 cm-1 were acquired from gastric normal and malignant tissue within 0.5 second from 81 patients under the guidance of white-light (WL), narrow-band (NB) and autofluorescence (AF) imaging during clinical endoscopy. Significant differences in Raman spectral shapes and intensities between normal and malignant gastric mucosal tissue were observed, particularly in the spectral ranges 800-900, 1000-1100, 1250-1450 and 1600-1800 cm-1, which primarily contain signals related to proteins, nucleic acids and lipids. Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) could identify in vivo Raman spectra of neoplasia with a sensitivity of 82.9% and specificity of 88.9% using leave-one-tissue site out cross validation. This study demonstrates that in vivo Raman spectroscopy in conjunction with multimodal endoscopic imaging modalities holds a great promise for improving the early diagnosis of gastric malignancies.","PeriodicalId":179447,"journal":{"name":"SPIE/OSA/IEEE Asia Communications and Photonics","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123152217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared with the conventional LED with Ni/Au or ITO process, the saturation current in the LEDs with GZO TCL approximately increased up to more than 14 % and 13 %, and the light output intensity up to 57.5 % and 30.1 %, respectively. This improvement was attributed to the high carrier concentration of GZO TCL and the planar structure at the TCL bottom, which improved the electrical conductivity, and therefore promoted current spreading. The refractive index of GZO is similar to GaN (n ≈ 2) and thereby results in the reduction of the reflection loss between GaN and TCL interface. In addition, the nano-structure of GZO TCL increased the light output critical angle and enhanced surface light emitting while reducing the lateral light loss and consequently improved light extraction efficiency of LEDs.","PeriodicalId":179447,"journal":{"name":"SPIE/OSA/IEEE Asia Communications and Photonics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129650062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With simulation of WDM system at 28 Gsymbol/s per polarization the performance of PM-QPSK and MZI-QPSK are compared when dispersion management is used. After 800 km's transmission in single-polarization transmission system, MZI-QPSK outperforms PM-QPSK because of its better tolerance to ISI. After 400 km's transmission in polarization multiplexing system, PM-QPSK outperforms MZI-QPSK by comparing the symbol error ratio with optimized launch power, which is because PM-QPSK has better nonlinearity tolerance in dispersion managed system.","PeriodicalId":179447,"journal":{"name":"SPIE/OSA/IEEE Asia Communications and Photonics","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127334476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the fiber nonlinearity impairments in 40Gb/s coherent optical (CO-OFDM) system are post-compensated by a new method of fiber nonlinearity post-compensation (FNPC). FNPC located before the CO-OFDM receiver includes spectrum inversion (SI) and a subsequent 80km compensation high nonlinear fiber (HNLF), in which SI is based on four wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), not necessary to be inserted into the middle of link. The fiber nonlinearity impairments in transmission link are post-compensated after SI by transmission through the HNLF with large nonlinearity coefficient. Simulating results show that the nonlinear threshold (NLT) (for Q >10 dB) can be increased by almost 2.5 dB and maximum Q factor can increase about 1.2 dB for single-channel 40Gb/s CO-OFDM system with optical dispersion compensation. For 50-GHz channel spacing WDM systems a benefit of about 1.1 dB is still possible in NLT, equating to a 0.7 dB increase in maximum Q.","PeriodicalId":179447,"journal":{"name":"SPIE/OSA/IEEE Asia Communications and Photonics","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126903799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based upon a number of recent mesopic photometry studies, an equation (Emes = B•EP) to deduce from the Ep (photopic illumination) to Emes (mesopic equivalent illumination) is proposed, where B is instant for modified coefficient. The coefficient B can be used easily to calculate the mesopic equivalent illumination by using the measuring results of photopic illumination for different correlated color temperature (CCT) light sources under mesopic light levels. Using the equation, we analyze the variation of coefficient B with background lighting level of the different correlated color temperature lighting sources under mesopic vision levels. By calculating the mesopic equivalent illumination of the different sources, our results showing that the higher correlated color temperature LED sources have better visual effects. Moreover, the results provide a basis for further studies on the illuminometer, which might be suitable for mesopic vision.","PeriodicalId":179447,"journal":{"name":"SPIE/OSA/IEEE Asia Communications and Photonics","volume":"7991 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129413520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
