Our main objective is to support clinical risk management by combining data from different RFID-based appliances used to monitor patient identification, patient tracking and drugs administration control. We propose a distributed system that directly embodies essential CEP principles such as event abstraction, event aggregation and event transformation to offer a hierarchical and distributed architecture where CEP capabilities are supplied by processing nodes. Events flowing through the system levels are progressively aggregated and refined in order to produce a global scoped information. In addition, we introduce specific events patterns aimed at identifying possible dangerous patient conditions.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"XCV 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131393698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Timing adjustments are calculated and delivered to the User Equipment in conformance to Long Term Evolution specifications. Performance results as well as amount of resources necessary for the implementation of the proposed method are assessed. Moreover, the issue regarding the resulting digital circuitry is also considered. Results indicate that the proposed architecture is capable of calculating timing adjustments for SNR as low as -10dB with no constraints on the number of users multiplexed within a time transmission interval.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131723524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Co-existence between such wireless technologies within the same frequency spectrum is crucial to ensure that each wireless technology guarantees the desired performance requirements. In this paper we investigate the interference generated by IEEE 802.11 over an 802.15.4/Zigbee network. Results of an extensive measurement campaign are reported to derive the performance of a Zigbee point-to-point network, when different types of traffic are generated and when affected by different levels of interference. Performance is evaluated in terms of packet loss rate, average round trip time and overhead. Tests have been performed on the “European Laboratory of Wireless Communications for the Future Internet” (EuWin) testbed at the University of Bologna, allowing a proper characterization of the environmental conditions during experiments.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"1002 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126848997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually in a video stream, the head of a person moves continuously and changes in facial expressions, lighting conditions, and camera motion produce significant distortions in the image appearance that can largely affect recognition performances. In this paper a system for automatic face identification in TV broadcasting programs is proposed. The proposed approach is based on a joint use of Scale Invariant Feature Transform descriptor and Eigenfaces-based approach. The algorithm has been tested on two national broadcasting channels. Experimental results show that the joint use of these two approaches improves the recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129742126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile Payment (m-payment) refers to one type of electronic payment, performed through mobile devices, such as mobile phones, smartphones, and tablets. To ensure trust and avoid frauds severe security requirements must be imposed. In addition, interoperability and privacy requirements, as well as speed of execution and ease-of-use are mandatory requirements, too. Several technical solutions have been proposed, associated to generally incompatible business models. From the end-users point of view, the result of a m-payment transaction is just one transfer of money from customer to merchant. However, to get this simple result, m-payments use a plethora of sophisticated technologies, including SMS, NFC, high-frequency sound waves, software apps. The heterogeneity of m-payment systems and economic models is an important challenge for their diffusion in the next years. Having described the main requirements, technical characteristics and different business models of m-payment, this paper underlines relationship of technological and business approach to m-payment systems.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127041290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper deals with 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE), comparing two reuse schemes that belong to the family of Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR), where the cell is divided into two parts (i.e., a central part and an edge one) adopting different reuse patterns and different transmission powers. Our aim is to identify the FFR scheme achieving higher capacity under some fairness constraints. Therefore, we perform an exhaustive-search optimization of the selected FFR scheme to maximize cell capacity in different conditions by means of Ns-3 simulations.","PeriodicalId":178778,"journal":{"name":"2014 Euro Med Telco Conference (EMTC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116716927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
