It is also an important public issue, as well as one of the leading causes of death. We aimed to examine the relationship between suicide attempt and thyroid hormones in suicide attempters and healthy controls and aimed to clarify whether any of the thyroid hormone levels may have predicted current or future suicide attempts.Method: This study comprised 358 participants (115 suicide attempters, 243 controls). Thyroid hormone levels including free T3, free T4, and TSH of all participants were explored. For predicting future suicide attempts using our hospital database and the database of the Republic of Turkey Social Security Institution, via International Classification of Diseases (ICD) diagnostic codes related to suicide data of future suicide attempts of the study participants were collected. In Turkey neither a scale nor a study is present to evaluate online game addiction/ addicts. We aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of “The Game Addiction Scale” that was developed by Lemmens in 2009 as an instrument to assess online game addiction in an online game players sample in Turkey and examine the game addiction levels in these players. Methods: For this purpose 726 “Travian” (a massively multiplayer online game) players were evaluated with the Young’s Internet Addiction Test and the Lemmens’s Game Addiction Scale to find out their game addiction levels. Individual properties of the participants reflecting their internet use and gaming habits were also examined. The study was performed using SurveyMonkey within three months between March 1 and May 31, 2013. Results: Both 21-item (Cronbach’s α=0.96) and 7-item versions (Cronbach’s α=0.88) of the Game Addiction Scale were found to be valid and reliable. Also using the monothetic format 11.1% of the participants was found to be online game addicts. Conclusion: Our findings indicates that there is a considerably high percentage of game addiction within this online gamers sample compared to other countries. Further studies with online gamers and general population are needed to see the whole picture in Turkey.","PeriodicalId":17852,"journal":{"name":"Klinik Psikofarmakoloji Bulteni-bulletin of Clinical Psychopharmacology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76543364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to patient's mother his paranoid symptoms consisted of increased suspiciousness towards his friends and other family members, but were not to the extent for him to seek out any medical help. Clinical course and management of this patient, who later progressed to full blown catatonia, is described in this report. Patient had paradoxical disinhibition when treated with benzodiazepine, limiting treatment options. Patient's mother would not consent for ECT treatment after which Olanzapine was selected to manage his catatonic symptoms. This patient's preexisting paranoid ideations and catatonia were stabilized successfully with a few days of olanzapine with significant decrease in Bush-Francis Catatonia Score. Studies suggest that the microbiome may contribute to the regulation of multiple neurochemical pathways that interconnect the gastrointestinal tract and other organs with the central nervous system. The microorganisms play a vital role in the immunological development of the host. Therefore, a selection between beneficial and harmful microbes is needed, and this vital role is guided by the immune system of the host. Probiotic therapy is the application of potentially beneficial microorganisms to support the balance of beneficial and harmful microbiota in our body system. The probiotic microorganisms not only compete with the pathogens of the host but also improve the immunological state of the host. As they colonize in the human intestine, they intricately involve with different systems of the body. Organisms used as probiotics are bacteria that exist naturally in the gut and are most frequently of the Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus, and Pediococcus species. The concept of modulating the microbiome is a novel and promising idea in various areas of medicine. “Vaginal seeding” is one of the most popular issues in the press, related to modulation of the microbiome. The term “vaginal seeding” describes the use of a gauze swab to transfer maternal vaginal fluid, and hence vaginal microbiota, on to an infant born by caesarean section. The composition of the early microbiota of infants is heavily influenced by mode of delivery. In infants born by caesarean section, the microbiota resembles that of maternal skin, while in vaginally born infants it is similar to that of the maternal vagina. These early differences in the microbiota have been suggested to determine susceptibility to some common diseases. In theory, vaginal seeding might rebuild the microbiota of infants born by caesarean section to a more “natural” state and decrease the risk of disease. Strong evidence supports a therapeutic role for probiotics in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, atopic dermatitis, and arthritis. Probiotics have immunomodulatory, hypocholesterolemic, antihypertensive, and anti-allergic properties. They are proclaimed to lighten postmenopausal symptoms and have an effect of protection toward lung emphysema. While probiotics have been suggested as an adjuvant therapy for depression, our knowledge is limited about the potency of probiotic treatments to modulate CNS function.","PeriodicalId":17852,"journal":{"name":"Klinik Psikofarmakoloji Bulteni-bulletin of Clinical Psychopharmacology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81971898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
