The author utilizes the Staffordshire University's network communications infrastructure (SUNCI) as a testing platform and discusses a new approach and QoS provision, by adding a component of measurement to the existing model presented by J.L. Walker (see J. Services Marketing, vol.9, no.1, p.5-14, 1995). The QoS provision is assessed in light of users' perception compared with the network traffic measurements and online monitoring reports. The users' perception of the QoS provision of a telecommunications network infrastructure is critical to the successful business management operation of any organization. The computing environment in modern campus networks is complex, employing multiple heterogeneous hardware and software technologies. In support of highly interactive user applications, QoS provision is essential to the users' ever increasing level of expectations. The proposed agent server is a software for safely executing program agents working as assistants for mobile phone users. Two new groups of agent services are proposed - personal information services and groupware communication services. A personal agent is created for each user of a mobile phone. This agent resides at a server. The agent is working all the time for its user (owner) even when he/she is disconnected from the mobile network. The behavior (i.e., the code) of an agent is set individually for each user. This code is interpreted rather than compiled, thus careful inspection may be performed at run-time. Access rights granted to agents ensure the agents behave in the proper way. To improve system performance, inspected pieces of code - called plugins - are compiled and are accessible by agents after careful checking of access rights. Broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) is one of the best positioned radio access technologies to provide broadband access with performances that surpass current 3G mobile data rates and are similar to wired xDSL systems. The paper addresses the solutions which are proposed and demonstrated in the frame of the IST-STRIKE project to enhance spectral efficiency for BFWA and to guarantee end-to-end quality of service (QoS) through a dual mode HiperMAN/HiperLAN system. The first aspect is covered by the use of multi-transmit multi-receive (MTMR) techniques. Indeed, as it is foreseen that the data rates available with the studied standards will be sufficient for the majority of single user needs, the best way to increase the capacity and lower the deployment cost is to multiply the number of simultaneous transmissions. Besides, it is shown that to ensure QoS for high data rate and time constrained services (such as video streaming), interworking is provided at the data link control (DLC) level.","PeriodicalId":177770,"journal":{"name":"SympoTIC'03. It integrates synchronous and asynchronous functions like live broadcast, interaction, trainee site screens remote control, files broadcast, Web based tools such as discussion forum, knowledge base, as well as chatting and interactive channels. The proposed system employs Huffman code for source coding, run length limited/error control codes (RLL/ECC) for channel coding and binary frequency shift keying/multi-phase shift keying (BFSK/MPSK) for modulation. It is shown that a reduction of the overall complexity in the combined demodulator/decoder is obtained as compared to its separate counterparts. The error performances are also shown to yield similar results for both the combined and separate block coded modulation (BCM) schemes. Decoding is based on soft-input/soft-output (SISO) decoders for decoding component codes. The soft inputs of the decoder include two values, the soft channel value and an a priori value. The soft output of the component's decoder is an extrinsic value, which is an estimation of the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) of binary decisions given by the decoding algorithm. The extrinsic values are used in feedback as a priori information. Substantial attention is dedicated to presenting a new possibility of utilizing WDM technologies in building metro/access networks. The DWDM (dense WDM) system outstandingly satisfies the requirements of long-haul networks and the CWDM (coarse WDM) system promises all the key characteristics of metro/access network architectures. It can also provide appropriate services for cell phone users. Furthermore, since it supports conventional IDs and service systems, it is easy for service providers to implement service control. In order to realize the above features, the UDSP is composed of four major components: multi-ID capture, UOI (universal object identifier) administration, BIND information (attribution information about objects and services) and basic service portal. However, existing image quality metrics such as peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) are inappropriate for in-service quality monitoring, since they require the original image to be available at the receiver. Although PSNR and others are objective metrics, they are not based on human visual perception. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a novel reduced-reference objective hybrid image quality metric (HIQM) that accounts for human visual perception and does not require a reference image at the receiver. This approach is based on a combination of various image artifact measures. The result is a single number, which represents an overall image quality.
