Hospital admission and surgical procedures increase the risk of infection with multidrug resistant pathogens. This study was aimed to determine the bacterial agents associated with surgical site infections and antibiotic resistance patterns of the isolates. \u0000Methods: A total of 161 specimens from patients with surgical site infections were included in this study. Isolation, identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing of the isolates was performed by standard microbiological techniques. \u0000Results: Out of 161 samples, 94 bacterial isolates were recovered. Gram positive bacteria were isolated in 57.4% (54/94) cases and Staphylococcus aureus was the most common organism (49/54) with 65.3% (32/49) methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates. All S. aureus isolates were susceptible to vancomycin. Gram negative bacteria constituted 42.6% (40/94) of total isolates and Escherichia coli was the commonest organism (13/40). Majority of Gram negative isolates were susceptible to amikacin, imipenem and piperacillin-tazobactam. Resistance to imipenem was detected among isolates of E coli, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter species. \u0000Conclusion: Gram positive isolates were more commonly associated with surgical site infections. High percentage of MRSA was detected among the S. aureus isolates but no vancomycin resistant S. aureus. High percentage of Gram negative isolates was susceptible to imipenem, piperacillin-tazobactam, amikacin and gentimicin.

These measures can only be effective when the people co-operate. The awareness and health-related behavior have a major role in determining society’s response. Meanwhile adolescents are at the risk of deviating from disciplined health-related behaviors due to turbulence arising from their hormones despite of their awareness. This study aims to study COVID-19 awareness and its impact on health-related behavior of adolescents. \u0000Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional web-based online study of 299 adolescents enrolled in various educational programs, between ages 13 to 19 years was conducted between June 18, 2020 and July 11, 2020 in Nepal. The questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, 16 items on knowledge and 40 items on behavior. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests and binary logistic regression were conducted in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. \u0000Results: A total of 299 adolescents were enrolled in the study. Majority (92.6%) of the adolescents had adequate awareness. Positive health-related behavior was seen in 72% of the adolescents. Spiritual behavior was the most affected in comparison to physical, social and psychological behavior. Adolescents with adequate awareness on COVID-19 were 10.67 times more likely to perform positive health related behavior (P=0.005; 95% CI=2.01-56.47). \u0000Conclusion: Majority of the adolescents had adequate awareness. Significant percentage of adolescents had positive health-related behavior. Positive behaviour was not proportionately in level with adequate awareness. Effective health programs and policies are needed to transform adequate awareness into positive health-related behaviour for effective control of disease.

It has been claimed that only 20% of a person’s success can be attributed to IQ and rest 80% to Emotional Quotient. Since, many researchers had claimed the influence of emotional intelligence on academic performance; the aims of this study were to find out the level of emotional intelligence and its relation with academic performance among Nepali undergraduate students. \u0000Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in 280 medical students (120 male, 160 female). The data of this research was obtained through the use of a questionnaire which elicits information about their Emotional Intelligence level and academic performance. The obtained data was analyzed by SPSS. The degree of relationship between marks obtained and emotional intelligence were established by Correlation coefficient and Fischer exact test. The level of significance was set at p-value less than 0.05. \u0000Results: The mean level of emotional intelligence was high (5.055±0.798) among Nepalese medical students. The respondents were reported to have high level of emotional intelligence with (5.544±0.929) for Self- awareness, (5.035±1.01) for Social awareness, (5.394±1.11) for Social skill and moderate level of emotional intelligence (4.24±1.37) for Self-management. \u0000Conclusion: There was a positive and strong relationship between the respondents’ overall emotional intelligence and their academic achievement which means that the higher their level of emotional intelligence, the better they perform academically.

Out of various treatment options, few studies have show promising benefits of steroids for this condition. The objective of this study was to find the efficacy of steroid in treatment of OME and compare effectiveness of various modalities of treatment for OME. Also, we conducted their cost-effectiveness analysis. \u0000Methods: In this experimental study, 160 children between one and 12 years of age having OME between September 2018 and January 2020 were randomized into four parallel groups and were managed with antibiotics-antihistamines-decongestant combination, nasal steroid spray, oral steroid, and watchful observation respectively. They were re-evaluated in one-month period for improvement in OME and appearance of any adverse effects. Improvement was compared with Chi-square test. \u0000Results: A total of 160 participants were randomly divided into four groups by block randomization. The group treated with nasal steroid spray showed statistically significant improvement. The group treated with oral steroid showed improvement but was not statistically significant. Improvement was significantly lower in observation group. Cost of treatment was in the decreasing order in antibiotics-combination, nasal steroid spray, oral steroid and observation groups respectively. \u0000Conclusions: Topical nasal steroid was the only efficacious treatment among the four modalities for OME. Furthermore, steroids were safe and cheaper than antibiotics combination.

It will also be useful in various clinical disciplines of dentistry including basic dental and anthropological research. \u0000Materials and Methods: Samples were selected Full form OPD of M B Kedia Dental College, Birgunj, Nepal. Total numbers of participants were 120, out of which 60 males and 60 females were selected after initial examination aged between 11 to 23 years. Subjects with all permanent teeth erupted (except second and third molar) without any history of previous orthodontic treatment and with no dental anomalies were included in this study. The alginate impressions were made by the well trained dental surgeon. Digital vernier calliper providing measurements to ± 0.01millimeter(mm) was used to measure the mesio-distal dimension of all teeth. \u0000Results: The mean, range and standard deviation were calculated for the size of the teeth. Independent t-test was used to compare between male and female population. The significance level was set at p value <= 0.05. The population of Province II, Nepal shows greater sexual dimorphism in mesio-distal crown dimension which was exhibited by the maxillary molars (0.88 mm) followed by mandibular molars (0.38 mm). Similarly in anterior tooth segment the maxillary canines (0.29 mm) followed by the mandibular canines (0.27 mm). \u0000Conclusion: The mean mesio-distal crown dimensions of the permanent dentition of males were larger than that of females for each type of tooth except maxillary central and lateral incisor.
