Consequently, adaptive lighting systems have been proposed incorporating ad-hoc networking, sensing, and data processing, in order to better manage the street lights and their energy demands. Evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of these complex systems requires the modelling of vehicles, road networks, algorithms, and communication systems, yet tools are not available to permit this. This paper proposes StreetlightSim, a novel simulation environment combining OMNeT++ and SUMO tools to model both traffic patterns and adaptive networked street lights. StreetlightSim's models are illustrated through the simulation of a simple example, and a more complex scenario is used to show the potential of the tool and the obtainable results. StreetlightSim has been made open-source, and hence is available to the community.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126590536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This metric facilitates the task of comparing the performance of different diversity-enabled energy detectors within a specified detection threshold range and also encapsulates the total AUC measure as a special case. Numerical results reveal that the partial AUC measure of an average energy detector is superior to that of the classical total energy detector with the increasing sample size owing to the noise averaging effect. In particular, we demonstrate that our proposed analytical framework facilitates the investigation of the effects of dissimilar fading parameters, shadowing, branch correlation, diversity order and different diversity combining techniques on the partial AUC metric of energy detectors.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"10 17","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133203831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To multiplex antennas, the delay and phase coded slots on a LCX is proposed. Different code is assigned to every LCX-MIMO antenna. In the paper, the configuration of an LCX-MIMO system, theoretical analysis and design methods are described. Analytical results and simulation calculation are performed on the relationship between code length and antenna size, as well as the multi access interference among LCX-MIMO antennas. Also the symbol error rate is estimated for various tip length and symbol durations. From the results of this analysis, it is shown that the proposed LCX-MIMO antenna system does not degrade system performance compared to conventional multiple feeder system. The proposed system makes it easy to set MIMO antennas over a wide area, and the MIMO multiplexing order can be improved.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"30 21","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114028192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, continuing urbanization all around the world makes this problem more severe especially at urban intersections. In this paper, we present a new green light optimal speed advisory (GLOSA), called the driver-centric GLOSA (DC-GLOSA), which advises the degree of acceleration/braking by comparing the current vehicle mobility with several reference mobility models. We argue that the DC-GLOSA can achieve higher fuel efficiency, better driving comfort, and less driver's distraction. To validate our argument, we conduct a real experiments at an intersection in Pusan National University campus. From the numerical results, we demonstrate that the DC-GLOSA can reduce 23.9% of the intersection stopping time (IST) on average.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132834099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its power is difficult to harness due to the effect of environmental parameters which cause fault occurrences in the wind-turbine towers and decrease the efficiency of the system. We propose Flexible Threshold Selection and Fuzzy inference system based Fault Detection System (FTSFFDS), which allows autonomous and continuous monitoring of the wind farm in real-time and gives warnings in case of fault occurrences. This is a simple and efficient method which forms the basis for the structural health monitoring of Offshore wind-farms. The system uses WSN in offshore wind-farm to sense the parameters and transmit the readings to the remote observer. The method utilizes adaptive thresholds to cater to the readings at different times of the day. The decision for new threshold is made when the correlation between the datasets is low. The proposed method is efficient in reducing the overall size of the data packets transmitted by the sensor nodes and thus saving energy in the WSN. The simulations confirm that the energy efficiency of the system is increased by nearly ten times compared to standard protocols e.g. LEACH. This paper is an extension to our previous research-work which proposed an application-specific clustering and routing protocol NETCRP (Network Lifetime Enhancing Clustering and Routing Protocol).","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129699779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each message can be transmitted on a wireless radio link from a node to an adjacent within each single time-slot, should be relayed in a store-and-forward manner from its source node to one of two gateways at the edges of the tandem within T time-slots, and then forwarded from the gateway to a central server via a reliable network. Our study is toward message transmission scheduling in which a static global time-slot assignment is designed to avoid conflicts among simultaneous transmissions on adjacent links, as well as dynamic message selection for proactive redundant transmissions with network coding are adopted to cope with lossy unreliable wireless links. In this present paper, as the first step of our study, we mainly focus on finding a good time-slot assignment.We analytically investigate, as a performance metric, the probability that all N generated messages are successfully relayed in a duration of T time-slots when a static time-slot assignment is accompanied by a static message selection for redundant transmissions, which can provide a baseline performance. To find a static time-slot assignment with static message selection that maximizes the metric, we successfully apply a mathematical optimization theory.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129897668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VSLs have increasingly reaped attention as a means to enhance road traffic safety. In this study pros and cons of the VSL systems, and factors that affect on VSL impacts is summarized. Despite the potential effectiveness of utilizing VSLs, the success of this system is impacted by several factors such as VSL strategy used and the level of driver compliance. It is found that the level of driver compliance could be depends on vehicles' safety capabilities. Therefore, we have introduced an Adaptive Advisory Speed Limit Dissemination (AASLD) architecture which uses a novel VSL control strategy to ameliorate driver compliance with speed limits. The current speed limit determine based upon the vehicle safety capabilities (e.g. vehicle type, size, weight, safety features) in addition to traffic and road conditions. The simulation results showed prominently that AASLD improves traffic flow efficiency and occupancy. In addition, the results demonstrate that utilization of Vehicular ad-hoc network technology in AASLD has evidently reduced the incident detection time up to 31.2 percent and appliance of safe speed limit in comparison with traditional VSL strategies.","PeriodicalId":177383,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122488983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
