A FOLPFB is a generalized version of biorthogonal linear-phase filter banks regarding their synthesis filter lengths. FOLPFBs' structure is more complicated and has more parameters than that in other FBs. We propose a method to reduce their redundant parameters without losing their properties. Moreover, regularity can be imposed which reduces the design freedom as well as improves the perceptual quality in image coding.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126609062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The continuous-domain image is assumed to belong to a reproducing kernel Hilbert space and the sampling process is shown to correspond to an appropriate orthogonal projection. The values at the interpolating grid are shown to correspond to a set of inner product calculations, giving rise to a minimax solution for an ℓ2 approximation problem. A tight upper bound on the ensued error is then derived and demonstrated. Examples of image resizing show that the proposed method yields better results than presently available methods, including the cubic B-spline method, in terms of SNR.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115728064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, applications defined in floating-point arithmetic must be converted into a fixed-point specification. This conversion requires accuracy evaluation to ensure algorithm integrity. Indeed, fixed-point arithmetic generates quantization noises due to some bits elimination during a cast operation. These noises propagate through the system and modify computing accuracy. In this paper, an accuracy evaluation model based on an analytical approach is presented and valid for all systems including arithmetic operations. The LMS algorithm example is developed and its validity is verified through experimentations.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128320281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Wiener model consists of the cascade of a Linear Time Invariant (LTI) system followed by a zero-memory nonlinear element. The linear block in the Wiener model is given an Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) representation using orthonormal bases with fixed poles, while the static nonlinearity is represented using nonlinear basis functions. Basis coefficients (both of the linear and nonlinear blocks) are estimated in closed form, up to a scalar factor, by first computing the column space of an equivalent output Hankel matrix using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), and then solving two Least Squares problems also resorting to SVDs. The performance of the proposed algorithm is illustrated through a simulation example.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115491870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Phase errors are introduced by the moving of the sensor array from their original positions during the experiment which gives an erroneous object localization. To solve the problem, an objective function is defined using the exact solution of the scattered acoustic field in the MUSIC method. The DIRECT algorithm (DIviding RECTangles) is used to seek the minimum of this function. The method provides estimation of the bearings and ranges of all buried objects as well as the phase error of each sensor in the observing array. Performances of the proposed method are investigated on experimental data recorded during underwater acoustic experiments.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116792371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cause of manifold ambiguities is due to linear dependence amongst manifold vectors. When an ambiguous situation occurs, subspace-based DF techniques fail to correctly identify a unique set of Directions-of-Arrival (DOA). This causes a performance degradation due to unreliable estimates of the parameters. In spite of the fact that there are infinitely many ambiguous scenarios in an array system, the problem in resolving manifold ambiguities has received very little attention. In this paper, two novel techniques are proposed, aiming at improving the DOA identification capability, while maintaining a minimum computational complexity. The proposed techniques adopt a beamforming class based on the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) criterion to estimate signal power, which is a measure for identifying the presence of a signal. Simulation results show the improved performance in terms of the identification capability over the previously proposed model fitting method.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116122502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To handle this problem, a model compensation method based on a factorial hidden Markov model (FHMM) has been recently introduced. In this architecture, speech and noise processes are modeled in parallel by a phoneme FHMM that is built by combining a clean-speech phoneme hidden Markov model (HMM) and a sudden noise HMM. Here, to increase the robustness of this method further, we apply supervised and unsupervised home-environment adaptation of phoneme FHMMs. A database recorded by a personal robot PaPeRo in home environments was used for the evaluation of the proposed method under noisy conditions. The phoneme home-dependent FHMM achieved better recognition accuracy than the clean-speech home-independent HMM, reducing the overall relative error by 16.2% and 12.3% on average for supervised and unsupervised adaptation, respectively.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116224764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A dual physical-statistical model of the rain and a geometrical description of the rain downpours were considered in order to generate a set of the specific measurements for the rain rate estimation. Thus, the simulator produces images corresponding to the polarimetric radar data. It is a flexible tool that allows the user to choose among a variety of parameterizations of the rain process as well as the radar system involved in the measuring of the polarimetric variables. It has been illustrated on one example how the proposed simulator gives expected results from generated data. The simulator was also used as a laboratory to validate and compare some rain rate estimation algorithms. The obtained results go in harmony with known results in the literature. It is envisageable to implement additional modules in the simulator, such as the Mie and the T-Matrix approximations and the Doppler radial winds modules.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122032747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One prominent advantage over OFDMA is that the SC-FDMA signal has lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). SC-FDMA has drawn great attention as an attractive alternative to OFDMA, especially in the uplink communications where lower PAPR greatly benefits the mobile terminal in terms of transmit power efficiency. SC-FDMA is currently a working assumption for the uplink multiple access scheme in 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE). In this paper, we give an in-depth overview of SC-FDMA with focus on physical layer and resource management aspects. We also show some research results on PAPR characteristics and channel-dependent resource scheduling of SC-FDMA.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122183759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For multiple-target localization, we have to solve data association problem. The data association problem is that we can not associate data and targets deterministically, when data don't have unique labels associated to targets. JPDAF is widely used for multiple-target tracking (MTT). It is extended filtering method based on Sequential Bayesian Estimation methods, such as Kalman Filter. Our method is not only based on the sequential bayes estimation, but based on variational approximation method. Our main contribution is derivation of variational approximated likelihood of targets' states, and optimize it by minimizing KL divergence. It is more precisely than mixture likelihood of JPDAF method.","PeriodicalId":176384,"journal":{"name":"2007 15th European Signal Processing Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122232263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
