They have changed the way of operating global or local services. Notwithstanding these promising features of cloud services, we can see many business sectors that are not very positive for adopting cloud services. One of its major reasons is controllability on security. It is widely believed that a purchasing organization loses control over operation, especially over security when adopting SaaS for their critical businesses. However, the global competition forces business sectors to change their style of thinking. Academia is never an exception. In 2012, Japan AXIES (Academic eXchange for Information Environment and Strategy) released the criteria for adopting cloud services for academic environments. Its scope includes outsourcing major functions of a univeristy management to cloud service providers. In this paper, we analyze the AXIES report in terms of risk analysis. Its security model is analyzed in terms of TPM and SLA. The criticality levels for services are defined. The assurance levels and cloud security levels are required to match a given criticality level. Cloud security model such as CCM and identity trust model such as NIST 800-63 are integrated into a cloudbased trust model.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124519452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays mobile devices are capable of doing very complex applications. But because of the resource scarcity of mobile devices, the compute intensive applications, like computer vision applications, are still found to be very difficult to execute on mobile devices. As a solution cyber foraging, where mobile devices offload either computation or data or both to a device within their network, can be applied. This paper explains our work in which we have successfully implemented a principal component analysis(PCA) based face recognition using VMBased cloudlet. In the face detection phase we are using a skin color based approach to extract the face region by which the accuracy and speed of the application is found to be increased.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128383732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While, developing a general purpose Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) which can understand voice commands is important, the contexts of how people interact with their mobile device change very rapidly. Due to the high processing complexity of the ASR engine, much of the processing of trending data is being carried out on cloudplatforms. Changed content regarding news, music, movies and TV series change the focus of interaction with voice based interfaces. Hence ASR engines trained on a static vocabulary may not be able to adapt to the changing contexts. The focus of this paper is to first describe the problems faced in incorporating dynamically changing vocabulary and contexts into an ASR engine. We then propose a novel solution which shows a relative improvement of 38 percent utterance accuracy on newly added content without compromising on the overall accuracy and stability of the system.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131210742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Underpinning this is the virtualization of core infrastructure, such as compute, storage, and networking. Virtualizing key mobile networking functions, such as access networks (4G, LTE, CDMA, non-3GPP Wi-Fi), transport networks (radio access network [RAN], eNodeB, content delivery network [CDN]), and core networks (Evolved Packet Core [EPC]), IP Multimedia Subsystem [IMS], VoLTE), is now reaching a phase where production-level deployments are starting to happen. There are four key pillars of virtualization that form the basis for NFV. The focus of this paper is how NFV deployment can be achieved, using a \"Common Platform\" approach across access, transport, and core networks with a high-performance hypervisor for compute-, storage-, and network-level virtualization with an integrated operation management system. The software-based approach to providing logical networking functions, such as switching, routing, firewalling, and load balancing, is discussed. From an operations perspective, this paper covers how the virtual infrastructure network will scale, provide high availability, deliver carrier-grade characteristics, and support in managing virtual network function (VNF) with operational support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS). Finally, the road ahead, with opportunities that need to be researched, is also presented.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115054369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We identify five key limited resources as being CPU, memory, battery, data usage and time. Existing solutions for these limitations are explored, and we identify offloading computation and storage from the device as a possible solution. Offloading techniques mainly support two types of offloading, offloading to a remote cloud and to a peer device. Four different modes of execution are analysed, local SQL database, local NoSQL database, cloud NoSQL database and NoSQL peer-to-peer database. We develop a prototype which showcases these execution scenarios. Healthcare is identified as an ideal use case for our prototype due to the varied purposes it provides (e.g. in a hospital, in a clinic, on site etc.). An open dataset of anonymised healthcare data is used as test data on which a set of experiments are run. Data generated via monitoring and logging of the prototype is collected and evaluated in terms of different execution scenarios. Using existing research we determine that Mobile Cloud Computing is a useful model for extending computation and resources in mobile devices. We identify that the discrepancy between our test results and existing research is due to the research approach, which evaluates results on a limited set of criteria and does not expand to other factors. Industries that would benefit from Mobile Cloud Computing include e-commerce, healthcare and e-learning, as well as education, finance, point-of-sale and transportation.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115063754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This led to a new cloud security service paradigm called identity and access management (IAM) service, IDentity-as-a-Service (IDaaS). Many IAM standards have been proposed in the last two decades: Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Central Authentication Service (CAS), OZ Protocol, Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), CoSign Protocol, Open Authentication (OAuth), and OpenID Connect (OIDC). However, Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) IAM requirements are somewhat different due to its resource limitations and mobile communication. It may not be necessary that the same IAM standards are equally effective for MCC. To determine the appropriateness of these IAM standards for MCC requires some IAM performance evaluation criteria. Therefore, this paper proposes several evaluation criteria for an effective IAM standard for MCC.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132614046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the following, the MCN term is specifically used to indicate the exploitation of cloud resources and infrastructures (possibly distributed and federated) to sustain and provision mobility-enabled services to mobile devices, with significant advantages in terms of both cost/investment reduction for mobile infrastructure providers and additional innovative (functional and non-functional) features generated by infrastructure virtualization. Let me note that this definition does not include other potential forms of \"mobile clouds\" that can combine the innovation directions of mobility and cloud, e.g., exploiting richer and richer mobile devices as cloud-like virtual resources, for instance in the so-called vehicular clouds [1]. The latter approaches are considered out of the scope of this paper and presentation.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124325310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Avatar leverages cloud resources to support fast, scalable, reliable, and energy efficient distributed computing over mobile devices. Each mobile device is augmented by an avatar, a per-user always-on software entity that resides in the cloud and acts as the surrogate of the mobile device, to the extent possible, thus reducing the workload and the demand for storage, bandwidth, and energy on the mobiles. Moitree provides: (1) a novel middleware which allows unmodified apps to execute seamlessly over mobile/avatar pairs with the provision of offloading computation and communication, and (2) a new programming framework to simplify mobile collaborative app development. The programming framework has two key features: (1) user collaborations are modeled using natural group semantics - groups are created dynamically based on context and are hierarchical. (2) data communication is offloaded to the cloud through high-level communication channels. A prototype of Moitree, along with several apps, has been implemented and evaluated on Android devices and on an OpenStack-based cloud running Android x86 avatars.","PeriodicalId":176270,"journal":{"name":"2016 4th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114183653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
