Taking current source converter and voltage source converter as research objects, this paper discusses a SPWM switching strategy , which realizes effective control of amplitude and phase of converter's AC current. On this basis, this paper presents a power control method which is available in operating real-time regulation on active and reactive power of both superconducting magnetic energy storages. Traditional methods for online cascading analysis could face almost unsolvable obstacles on computational burden and accuracy. This paper discusses the mechanisms of early warning of cascading blackouts. Researches have shown, from the complex system point of view, the existence of early-warning signals to indicate for a wide class of systems whether a critical threshold is approaching. Combined with the latest economic analysis research results of UHV AC and DC transmission technology, the minimal cost method are used to perform different schemes comparison and sensitivity analysis between the UHV HWACT and ±800 kV UHV DC transmission in this paper. The critical economic transmission capacity and upper limit of additional control cost are given in this paper. The economic analysis of UHV HWACT and ±1000 kV UHV DC transmission are compared. Based on distribution system characteristics and dynamic status, economic signals exist for investment and operation in distribution networks. The implementation of Smart Grids technologies affects the interest of parties involved in distribution sector, making economic and pricing signals more relevant and necessary. This paper is a bibliography survey to summarize the recognized publications that have been done in the areas of distribution network fixed cost allocation, investment deferral evaluation, distributed resources planning, distribution loss allocation, reliability based payments, dynamic pricing, and demand-side integration. The relevance of topics to New Zealand situation is discussed to show the interconnection of underlying issues. This paper proposes the method of using double fed motor for mitigating SSR for the first time. When double fed motor and generator are installed coaxially, the double fed motor can bring in damping torque to the shaft directly, so as to mitigate SSR. By analyzing the transfer characteristics of the damping torque attached to the shaft by coaxial double fed motor, as well as supplementary subsynchronous damping control strategy, it is indicated that this method can mitigate SSR in the closed-loop control effectively. Based on IEEE SSR first benchmark, simulation model about coaxial double fed motor for SSR mitigation is built. Among the field of energy storage applications, the management and control strategy research is the key technology, and also plays an important role in smart grid study. In this paper, the concept of Wide-area Coordinated Control of Energy Storage System (WCCESS) is proposed. In this system, the control of energy storage, regular equipment of power grid and intermittent energy supply have been integrated and coordinated with multi control targets in different time scale. The application pattern, control strategy and coordinated optimization method of energy storage have also been introduced at full length. WCCESS system is designed in hierarchical structure while combining global control and local control skillfully, consequently reduce optimization complexity and realize multi-target quasi-optimization. Then, using Jacobian-Free Newton-GMRES(m) method, a decomposition and coordination algorithm is forged to obtain the overall network power flow, The IEEE 13 bus system is used for case studies. Some serious problems may occur to the distribution system in case with large amount of power penetration from the renewable sources, such as degradation in voltage quality (fluctuation, rise and imbalance), surplus power at light-load time and increased possibility of voltage instability. The object of this study aims at improving the voltage quality by mitigating the imbalance in the distribution voltage caused by unbalanced loads and further deteriorated by renewable power generations, and meanwhile, leading to the improvement of FRT (Fault Ride Through) capacity so as to ensure power system security at higher penetration levels. For this purpose, this paper suggests to introduce a STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) device into a distribution system that has large numbers of renewable generators. In this study a STATCOM model with relatively lower cost and simple structure was completed based on the existing technologies, and the control systems for improving the imbalance in distribution voltage and for obtaining FRT capacity were proposed. Digital simulations were conducted using a typical detailed distribution system integrated by large numbers of photovoltaic power generators that is estimated probably to appear in the near future.
