Students may not get many chances to practice passing a nasogastric tube and checking for reflux in live horses during clinical rotations and extramural studies. A low-cost equine nasogastric intubation model was created at the University of Surrey, allowing students to practice passing a tube and checking for reflux. Thirty-two equine veterinarians evaluated the model for realism and its potential usefulness in teaching. Veterinarians found the model to be realistic, supported its use as a teaching aid, and provided helpful feedback for possible improvements. In addition, 83 year-4 veterinary students rated their level of confidence before and after using the model for nine specific aspects of nasogastric intubation. Students showed significantly increased confidence levels in all nine aspects after using the model, and reported that they appreciated being able to practice the skill in a safe environment prior to performing it on a live horse. The results of this study suggest that both clinicians and students considered that this model has educational value, which supports its use for training veterinary students prior to clinical placements. The study was conducted in two stages: (1) to develop and validate a scale for assessing Turkish veterinary students' attitudes and opinions regarding distance education (DE) (<i>n</i> = 250 students; one veterinary school) and (2) widespread use of this scale amongst veterinary students (<i>n</i> = 1,599 students, 19 veterinary schools). Stage 2 was conducted between December 2020 and January 2021 with students from years 2, 3, 4, and 5 who had experienced face-to-face and distance education. The scale contained 38 questions, which were divided into seven sub-factors. Most students considered that practical courses (77.1%) should not continue to be delivered by DE and that catch-up face-to-face programs (77%) would be required for practical skills after the pandemic. The main benefits of DE were that studies did not have to be interrupted (53.2%) and the ability to retrieve online video material for later study (81.2%). A total of 69% of students considered DE systems and applications easy to use. Many (71%) students considered that the use of DE would adversely affect their professional skills, 26.5% expected that the duration of their studies would be extended, but only 18.1% had considered suspending their studies for the period of the pandemic. Therefore, it appeared that face-to-face education was considered indispensable by students in veterinary schools, which provides practice-oriented education in the field of health sciences. This study collects comprehensive data about ethics education at veterinary faculties in Turkey to contribute to the international literature. A cross-sectional descriptive survey design is used to collect data via questionnaire. Of the 31 faculty members actively teaching ethics at 24 of the 29 veterinary faculties in Turkey (as of the end of 2021), 30 responded to the survey. By the end of 2021, ethics courses in 24 veterinary faculties in Turkey were conducted between the seventh and tenth semesters with similar content across the examined institutions. Of the 31 faculty members responsible for ethics education, 22 were ethicists. Theoretical lectures and multiple-choice tests were the most preferred methods for teaching and assessment. The most preferred learning outcome to be gained by students was ethical awareness. Integrity by ethicists and morality by faculty members from other departments were considered the most important virtues. The collected qualitative data regarding the strengths of ethics education and areas for improvement were varied and controversial. Ethics training should be an ongoing process throughout veterinary education. The first clinical skills laboratory was opened at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in 2019. The current study aimed to identify the most important clinical skills for veterinarians in Bangladesh to inform the further development of clinical skills laboratories and ensure resources are deployed effectively and efficiently. Lists of clinical skills were collated from the literature, national and international accreditation standards, and regional syllabi. The list was refined through local consultation, focused on farm and pet animals, and was disseminated via an online survey to veterinarians and final-year students who were asked to rate the level of importance of each skill for a new graduate. The survey was completed by 215 veterinarians and 115 students. A ranked list was generated with injection techniques, animal handling, clinical examination, and basic surgical skills among the most important. Some techniques requiring specific equipment and some advanced surgical procedures were considered less important. As a result of the study, the most important clinical skills for a new graduate in Bangladesh have been identified for the first time. The results will inform the development of models, the use of clinical skills laboratories, and the design of clinical skills courses for veterinary training. Competing interests of house officers, owners' wishes, and ethical concerns have led to increasing use of inanimate models for basic surgical skills training. Robotic simulators have benefits for psychomotor training but have not been previously investigated in veterinary medicine. Understanding the necessary practice time for new training devices is important when determining their potential value. The aim of this study was to compare the number of attempts needed for veterinary students to reach proficiency in both a basic and advanced robotic simulator task, and to assess the predictive nature of performance variables. Each student performed a basic and advanced tasks on the Mimic dV-Trainer™ until proficiency was reached. Students required a median of eight attempts (95% CI = 7-8, range: 6-11) to reach proficiency for the basic task versus 22 attempts (95% CI = 20-26, range: 11-62) for the advanced task. The median time required to complete training for the basic and advanced task was 13.5 minutes (range: 8-24 minutes) and 26.5 minutes (range: 11-82 minutes) respectively. The difference in task attempts supports the training protocol and confirms proficiency can be attained in a short period of time. The number of attempts to reach proficiency correlated with specific performance variables that can be used by educators to aid in training students on a robotic simulator. The purpose of this study was to rapidly appraise the evidence for the effectiveness, impact, and feasibility of different accreditation approaches, in order to inform best practices for the accreditation of professional education programs. The study focused on accreditation for programs that produce practice-ready graduates, including for veterinary programs. The authors searched several databases for articles published from 2000 to 2020, using search terms identified during a scoping phase, and applied a \"rapid review\" methodology in line with contextual, time, and resource requirements. Relevant articles that were classed as empirical or conceptual were included in the study, while papers appraised as solely commentaries or descriptive were excluded from the evidence base. The full-text review included 32 articles. We identified a clear transition in the literature from input- and process-based models (pre- and early 2000s) to outcomes-based models (in the 2000s and early 2010s). Continuous quality improvement and targeted models (including risk-based and thematic) represent more recent approaches in accreditation practice. However, as noted by other scholars, we identified limited empirical evidence for the relative effectiveness of different accreditation approaches in professional education, although evidence for the more recent accreditation approaches is emerging. This posed unique challenges for veterinary anatomy, which is a practical subject. This study compares the cognitive load and academic performance of first- and second-year veterinary students studying anatomy in 2019 (pre-COVID-19) and 2020 (post-COVID-19 teaching adjustme nts). Importantly, the core teaching content remained identical for both courses in 2019 and 2020 apart from teaching method (in-person vs. online), allowing us to isolate the effects of teaching method on cognitive load and academic performance. Cognitive load was measured among first- ( n2019 = 105, n2020 = 49) and second-year students ( n2019 = 85, n2020 = 42) at the end of each teaching semester, using a validated instrument. The instrument measures intrinsic load (IL, study material complexity), extraneous load (EL, presentation of material), and germane load (GL, self-perceived learning). t-Tests compared the 2019 and 2020 cohorts with respect to both cognitive load and academic performance. The results indicated that 2019 and 2020 cohorts did not differ on IL or EL in either the first- or second-year subject. However, among both first- and second-year students, the 2020 cohort reported significantly less GL compared to the 2019 cohort. Additionally, the first-year 2020 cohort performed at a significantly lower level than the first-year 2019 cohort. No significant difference in performances was reported between second-year cohorts.
