Medical images frequently suffers from non-uniform illumination, poor contrast and noise, thus these images have to go through pre-processing stage. For image enhancement many techniques are proposed based on spatial domain (histogram). However, these methods usually decline to produce suitable consequences for non-uniform illumination and wide-ranging of low-contract. The comparative analysis and performance evaluation of various enhancement techniques will help in choosing most suitable technique which may significantly improve the detection of diabetic retinopathy. In this paper histogram equalization (HE), adaptive histogram equalization (ADHE), contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) and exposure based sub-image histogram equalization (ESIHE) techniques are compared for pre-processing of fundus image for detecting DR. For fair analysis of these techniques, histogram, SNR, entropy, absolute mean brightness error and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of fundus images are analyzed by using MATLAB.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123511979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The barrier coverage can guarantee intrusion detection when mobile objects are entering into the boundary of a sensor field or penetrate into sensor field. There are several penetration paths such as breach, support, exposure and detection. This paper is interested in the maximal breach path, which is specific for a penetrating intruder's safety that corresponds to the worst case coverage. Having known the MBP, network designers could improve the coverage of the networks and maximize the effectiveness of the system. Moreover, MBP provides fundamental background to develop intrusive detection and border surveillance applications. Therefore, in this paper we presents an innovative polynomial time algorithm for computing the MBP for a given sensor network named DBS. The simulation results show that the aforementioned algorithm significantly outperforms an existed one named Megerian's in term of both computational time and consummation.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127669766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the integration of LiDAR data and high spatial resolution orthophoto, more input data layers are available for object-based Support Vector Machine classification. Initially, confusion among classes arises because of the presence of irrelevant and redundant data layers. Hence, this study applies Decision Tree (DT), a popular data mining technique, as a pre-classification process in SVM to select the relevant features from the input variables. We assessed the effectiveness of seven vegetation indices, two vegetation index combinations and 14 LiDAR height metrics for mapping agricultural resources in Calatagan, Batangas. We were able to filter the input variables and subsequently achieve at least 73% reduction of training features. With the DT-based feature selection, we were able to reduce the number of input features as well as make the SVM training and classification time shorter by more than 90%. Importantly, the overall accuracy and kappa index of agreement both increased when DT-based SVM was used in contrast with using all the variables for SVM classification.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127118097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Musculoskeletal disorders like lower back pain is an example of work-related health concerns faced by industrialized nations. Such health concerns are of more significance in developing and under developed countries, where lack of standards result in such cases go unnoticed. Various tools are available to analyze injuries caused by manual lifting tasks, out of which National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) lifting equation is ofgreat significance. The NIOSH lifting equation recommends the maximum acceptable weight limit by hand lifting, and thereby reducing lower back injuries from manual lifting activities. This paper comprehensively reviews the evolution and advancements of factors and applicability of NIOSH lifting equation. Significant research on biomechanical aspects of this lifting equation is conducted recently. This paper further discusses the important factors in the NIOSH lifting equation specifically to Indian context.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126498676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With emerging mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases and emerging insecticide resistance, demand for new insecticidal formulations has been increased. Studies on the use of monometallic nanoparticle formulation like nanosilver, nanocopper and nanozinc, synthesized with biological components to kill mosquito larvae are efficient. Our hypothesis is that the bimetallic combination of nanoparticles can kill mosquito larvae more efficiently at lower concentrations than their respective monometallic form. To carry out experimentation on the above hypothesis, extracellular synthesis of monometallic Copper-, Zinc-, and Silver-nanoparticles, and bimetallic Copper-Zinc and Silver-Copper nanoparticles is done with the help of aqueous leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum (Linn.). The characterization study was done through U.V.-Vis spectroscopy and XRD which indicated the presence of nanoparticles in the solution. Efficacy on 3rd instar larvae of Anopheles mosquito was performed by following WHO's guidelines. Lethal concentration values (LC) for each nanoparticles were obtained. Results of efficacy showed bimetallic Silver-Copper nanoparticles followed by Copper-Zinc nanoparticles, can potentially kill mosquito larvae in lower concentrations as compare to their respective monometallic forms.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126957541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without it, it would be hard or about outlandish for mineworkers to carry out their employment. Generally mining industries are located away from load centers or remote areas or rough terrain areas where the voltage variations are high or unpredictable. Mining industry consumes huge power as they are having large machinery such as crushers, continuous miners, mining shovels etc. are sensitive to voltage fluctuations. So they are targeted by electricity board. As we go deeper in the mines the value of voltages goes on reducing and it becomes critical. This paper describes the modeling and implementation of D-STATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) using different controllers such as proportional integral control and hysteresis voltage control to improve power quality in underground mining. In this paper PI (Proportional Integral) controller and Hysteresis controller is proposed to improve power quality in underground mining which is designed in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is compared to the two controllers.","PeriodicalId":174678,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121861398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
