Scholars in behavioral accounting, finance, and economics have begun to investigate how novices and experts learn in a wide range of accounting and financial settings. This session provided an initial discussion of the different learning processes for accounting and finance students enrolled in online vs. in-class (face-to-face) formats. As educators, our primary goal is to facilitate the learning of our students. An emerging method of delivery known as online education, where the teacher and student may never have face-to-face contact; this online format is a increasingly provided by all different types of colleges and universities across the country. How does this alternate delivery method affect the learning process of students? Or does the learning technique of students have an influence on the way online courses are delivered? The focus of this session was to review the main studies within the literature of learning as it relates to online delivery and face-to-face delivery of courses. One outcome of the session was to share with participants the main themes and findings from this collection of studies. This discussion presented scholars with a future avenue of research and a valuable source for improving their own teaching experience. Note: SSRN is experimenting with enabling the distribution of different types of files: slides, spreadsheets, video, etc. This is an upload of a pdf file of an SSRN Workshop PowerPoint slides. We are interested in our users desires to distribute files that go beyond word processing text files. You can communicate with me on these issues via my email address below. We invite you to submit your own presentation slides.","PeriodicalId":174643,"journal":{"name":"Entrepreneurship Educator: Courses","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122350316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examine a traditional Japanese business philosophy focusing on Kamada Issou (1712-1804), and explore its moral implications for modern Japanese management. Ishida Baigan (1685-1744) set up Shingaku, a kind of Japanese business philosophy or practical business ethics, which was, after his death, ideologically separated into two schools; the one by Teshima Toan, the main stream, while the other by Saito Zenmon. Kamada Issou was a direct disciple of Saito Zenmon. Though Kamada Issou published ten books about practical business ethics, he is virtually unknown. Therefore, it is very hard to have access to researches on Kamada Issou. In particular, we may say it is almost impossible to find research documents on his management philosophy besides the one by Yasukazu Takenaka. This paper examines his business philosophy revealed in his main works; \"Baiboku Sensei Konuka Dawara\", \"Baiboku Sensei Konuka Dawara Kouhen\", \"Ame no Harema\", \"Ma no Atari\", \"Aribekakari\", and explores the implications of his philosophy for modern Japanese management.","PeriodicalId":174643,"journal":{"name":"Entrepreneurship Educator: Courses","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129895707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This discussion seeks to evaluate these criticisms in terms of their relationship to the decline in demand for management education, and especially for its most expensive varieties. As an accompaniment, I also offer a context for understanding management education's value proposition and through this vehicle offer a conjecture as to the cause for the market adjustment currently underway.","PeriodicalId":174643,"journal":{"name":"Entrepreneurship Educator: Courses","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127505719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we focus on how a price searching firm chooses its profit maximizing quantity. We then extend the example to competitors in a two-firm market. Students can alter the demand and cost structure to see the impact on market clearing. A classroom experience using the spreadsheets is described. An easy-to-use template simplifies creation of additional spreadsheets customized to professor's needs. Alternately professor's can modify the existing spreadsheets. A website allows readers to download all of the spreadsheets discussed.","PeriodicalId":174643,"journal":{"name":"Entrepreneurship Educator: Courses","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122198381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
