A light detection and ranging sensor and an accelerometer in a smartphone were used to detect the road surface conditions at a mine site, and a dust sensor and gas sensor were used to measure the atmospheric environment. To detect the location of the vehicle, the global positioning system function of the smartphone was utilized. Experiments at the Kangwon National University Samcheok campus and a mine site of Taeyoung EMC confirmed that the data from each vehicle could be shared in real time. In addition, sections with poor road surface and high dust density were identified. It is expected that the technology developed in this study can be used to improve the mine environment.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80057192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The observed power outputs from the fixed and tracking floating PV systems were compared. The System Advisor Model software was used to analyze the meteorological data of the study area and system design specifications. For the fixed PV system, the observed values were generally higher than the predicted values. Based on the difference between the observed and predicted values of monthly power output, the calculated mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) was 14%. According to a previous study in which the amount of power output on the water was approximately 5% – 10% higher than that on the on-land system, the monthly MAPE would be approximately 11%, and the annual error rate would be approximately 2%. In addition, the tracking PV system showed a slightly higher monthly power output than the fixed PV. It is expected that the proposed system will yield improved accuracy in the renewable energy output prediction system with the power output prediction algorithm for floating PV systems.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85425659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the energy conversion progresses, however, conflicts and confront-ations in the energy sector, such as stranded assetization of coal power generation, imbalances between energy sources and between regions, and loss of jobs, will be accentuated. As a result, just transition is emerging as a key topic of energy transition. We should therefore try to examine and resolve the imbalance between industries and regions that inevitably occur in the energy transition process from the perspective of energy justice. In the process of seeking such a solution, a just transition can be made, in which all members of society agree.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84366059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In South Korea, temporary storage facilities for spent fuels of each power plant are nearly saturated. Thus, discussions on the interim storage and permanent disposal of HLW are inevitable. For the geological disposal of HLW, determining a suitable disposal system that considers the geological environment of each country is essential. Since a disposal system wholly depends on the characteristics of the disposing host rock, selecting a suitable host rock is vital. However, a host rock for the geological disposal of HLW in South Korea has not yet been determined because the geological environments of South Korea are tectonically diverse and complicated. Moreover, information available on the deep geological environment is insufficient for selecting a suitable host rock. Therefore, in this paper, we introduced production processes of geoenvironmental information maps for nationwide geological characteristics that can be used to exclude unsuitable areas for HLW geological disposal, which constitutes the first step in the process of site selection. The geoenvironmental information maps were prepared for 8 items, including rock type, mine distribution, lineament, faults, seismotectonics, uplift rate, hydraulic conductivity, and geothermal gradient. Based on the geoenvironment information map of the rock type and the geological structures in South Korea, an ongoing multidisciplinary study on the characteristics of bedrock was introduced. The southern part of the Korean peninsula was divided into four tectonic structures and four representative rock types, and methods for obtaining their geological, hydrogeological, geochemical, geophysical, and rock mechanical characteristics using a 750-m deep borehole drilled in the relevant area were presented. Additionally, the results were analyzed with focus on the uniaxial compressive strength and in-situ stress characteristics, which are key parameters in the field of rock mechanics. This information could be useful for investigating reliable basement characteristics through multidisciplinary analysis linked to fields other than rock mechanics.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83952603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Factors affecting the occurrence of subsidence are identified from eight and 1,730 sets of subsidence data. Five machine learning models are selected, i.e., Adaboost, artificial neural networks, the k-nearest neighbor, random forest, and the support vector machine, which are frequently used in studies related to geohazard prediction. In addition, the stacking technique is applied to five algorithms based on 10 combinations, and the predictive performance of each ensemble method is evaluated and compared. To evaluate the classification performance of the machine learning technique applied in this study, recall is used as an evaluation index, which describes the ratio of the predicted ground subsidence instead of the area under curve used previously. Based on the values of recall, the random forest demonstrates the best performance (with a recall of 0.955). The recall is expected to be a more reliable evaluation index for predicting subsidence occurrences compared with other indices.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79260756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because 3D seismic data can be distorted by various types of seismic anisotropy, a 3D anisotropic seismic imaging technique is required. In this study, we explain the geological reasons for seismic anisotropy and the influence of seismic anisotropy on 3D seismic data. Then, we introduce international research trends in anisotropic seismic imaging depending on seismic modeling, full-waveform inversion, and reverse-time migration. Finally, we introduce the current status and future trends in Korean 3D anisotropic seismic imaging technology.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77339980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the Taeyoung EMC's Samdo mine in Dogye-eup, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do, 19 vibration modules, 9 dust modules, and 6 additional router modules, were installed. The values of vibration and dust density, before and after blasting, were obtained from the coordinator module. As a result, it was possible to establish a wireless sensor network in an underground mine. The vibration at the time of blasting was detected and the change in dust density, before and after blasting, was monitored. To solve the problem of unstable network connection in some modules, changes in module settings and line of sight analysis were required. This study is expected to be a basic research towards realizing a safe environment in relatively small underground mines with harsh conditions.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81534776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Capital expenditure, operating expenditure, and abandonment expenditure are estimated yearly based on the cost estimation model considering the scale effects of the hydrogen production facility. These are used in economic evaluation with sensitivity analysis according to the input parameters’ changes. The relationship between the levelized cost of hydrogen and the net present value according to the change of facility scale is confirmed. The base case model gives a hydrogen production of 333 tonnes/day and a levelized cost of 2.91 US$/kg, which has been verified as a reliable value. This model is expected to be further utilized in hydrogen production feasibility studies under various scenarios and contribute to efficient decision-making.","PeriodicalId":17454,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73195434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
