While direct regulatory measures for reaching carbon neutrality, such as market-based mechanisms, do exist, there may be limits to their use. Governments are now advocating for energy transitions, which involves replacing most of their electricity demand with renewable energy, hydrogen and nuclear power generation instead of fossil fuel power generation, and replacing non-electric energy demand with hydrogen energy. In this paper, we review the projected decline of fossil fuels in the current energy transition period and the characteristics of new and renewable energy predicted to replace them. A total of 924 blasting data were collected from an open-pit mine at the Mt. Yogmang located in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The blasting data consisted of hole length, burden, spacing, maximum charge per delay, powder factor, number of holes, ratio of emulsion, monitoring distance and air overpressure. Four algorithms including k-nearest neighbors (kNN), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and deep neural network (DNN) were used to train the machine learning models. Mean absolute error (MAE), mean squared error (MSE), and root mean squared error (RMSE) were analyzed to evaluate the performance of the trained models. Because of the hydrate production by the depressurization method, 74.6% of the cumulative gas production was produced from a thin layer (less than 0.2 m) with low hydrate saturation. A reservoir simulation was performed to evaluate the effect of hydrate saturation and thin-layer structure on gas production. In the case of homogeneous distribution of hydrate saturation, the gas can be produced from all sand layers because of the increasing effective permeability with decreasing hydrate saturation. Production analysis based on various thin layer structures revealed a decrease in the cumulative gas production by 40% after removal of a thin layer with thickness of 0.1 m from the base model. As the radius of the thin layer increases, the hydrate dissociation front can be propagated more by increasing the influence radius of the bottomhole pressure. Cationic and nonionic emulsifiers were mixed using hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) values to prepare water-in-oil emulsion stable at room temperature and high temperature, and droplet and separation tests were carried out to evaluate the fluid stability. As the result, W/O emulsion with fluid stability that did not cause phase separation at room and the high temperature (90°C) was ensured. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the use of two emulsifiers resulted in superior outcomes compared to using cationic emulsifiers or nonionic emulsifiers individually. Ji","doi":"10.32390/ksmer.2021.58.6.525","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32390/ksmer.2021.58.6.525","url":null,"abstract":"The objective of this study was to select a proper mixing ratio of soil neutralizer (waste-lime and oyster mix) by assessing treatment effect on the root collar diameter (RCD) growth of Pinus densiflora seedlings, the inflow of herbaceous vegetation from the forest edge, and soil characteristics in the acid soil of abandoned metal mines to increase carbon uptake. The mixing ratios of the soil neutralizer were 0.6%, 1.0%, 1.2%, and 1.6% in comparison with the soil weight. All soil neutralizer treatments promoted RCD growth and survival of P. densiflora seedlings and the inflow of herbaceous vegetation from the forest edge. In addition, soil pH was improved by the soil neutralizer treatment. Treatment with 1.6% soil neutralizer resulted in increased RCD growth of P. densiflora seedlings, total population of herbaceous plants from around the forest, TOC, and total N. In this study, the mixing ratio showed a positive correlation with RCD growth and survival of P. densiflora seedlings, the inflow of herbaceous vegetation, soil pH, and TOC. The results of this study indicated that treatment with soil neutralizer at a ratio of 1.6% is applicable for rehabilitation in this abandoned metal mine considering the growth of P. densiflora seedlings and herbaceous vegetation, soil chemical characteristics, and economic feasibility. In addition, the development of small and medium gas fields as a way to secure energy resources is becoming increasingly important due to a decrease in the discovery of new gas fields and an increase in oil prices. Although small and medium gas fields account for about 40% of all gas fields globally, commercialization for gas power generation is not possible because it was difficult to ensure economic feasibility using LNG or GTL. In this study, the development cases for small and medium onshore and offshore gas fields were reviewed. Also, trends of gas utilization technology in small and medium gas fields were investigated, and gas power generation status was examined. This paper reviews the space industry and the technology for asteroid mining. The definition and classification system of asteroids are explained, and first-generation companies in the asteroid mining industry and start-ups established after 2010 are introduced. The countries of the relevant companies are becoming more diversified, and the business areas are expanding to include not only space telescopes and space launch vehicles but also robotic mining equipment, space manufacturing and mineral processing, and the construction of space gas stations. The trends of exploration, transportation, and the energy and mining technologies necessary for asteroid mining are summarized, and issues related to international laws and economic feasibility are presented.
