Trends of Development and Utilization for Small and Medium Gas Fields
The demand for natural gas has increased because it emits fewer harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide, than coal or oil. In addition, the development of small and medium gas fields as a way to secure energy resources is becoming increasingly important due to a decrease in the discovery of new gas fields and an increase in oil prices. Although small and medium gas fields account for about 40% of all gas fields globally, commercialization for gas power generation is not possible because it was difficult to ensure economic feasibility using LNG or GTL. In this study, the development cases for small and medium onshore and offshore gas fields were reviewed. Also, trends of gas utilization technology in small and medium gas fields were investigated, and gas power generation status was examined. It can be used as basic data when establishing the optimal plan for small and medium gas field development.
