Thus, many challenging problems are related to smart healthcare but in many cases they are explored individually in their respective fields and, as a result, they are not always known by the smart healthcare research community working in more specific domains. The aim of this article is to identify some of the most relevant trends and research lines that are going to affect the smart healthcare field in the years to come. To do so, the article considers a systematic approach that classifies the identified research trends and problems according to their appearance within the data life cycle, this is, from the data gathering in the physical layer (lowest level) until their final use in the application layer (highest level). By identifying and classifying those research trends and challenges, we help to pose questions that the smart healthcare community will need to address. Consequently, we set a common ground to explore important problems in the field, which will have significant impact in the years to come.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124073158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A limit that still hampers their massive application is the maximum dimension of the components than can be produced. This paper deals with the study of the joining process of additive manufactured parts. In particular, two different cases have been studied: i) Ti6Al4V parts made through electron beam melting joined through linear friction welding; ii) AlSi10Mg parts made through direct metal laser sintering joined through friction stir welding. The results obtained showed the feasibility of both the processes.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125761600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimization strategy aims to find the best compromise between the conflicting objectives of minimal Signal Power, maximal Bit Rate, and minimal Bit Error Rate. The optimization is performed off line by means of a Multi-Objective approach. A set of Pareto solutions is determined, among which the designer has to take the final choice on the basis of the custom requirements. The approach is used to optimize the communication within a distributed energy storage system, which exploits an available electrical car fleet. The power lines supplying the charging points are used for the communication, while the information concerns, for each car, the identification code, the charge state, the schedule of charging/discharging. A unique OFDM modulation is used to dialogue with the whole cars fleet, so that it has to be optimized taking into account the frequency response of any involved power lines.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126450275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diagnosis and treatment of ADHD has been a controversial subject among researchers. In this study, we analyzed the accountability of using theta/beta ratio and beta activations as EEG-based biomarkers for assessing the brain activity acquired during an attention task in ADHD children (n = 7) and normal control subjects (n = 7). ADHD subjects showed reduced beta activity during the task and higher theta/beta ratio at rest, in line with previous research findings. Furthermore, most of the ADHD subjects, during the attention test, presented a beta power falling outside the normality range defined on the normal children group.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128035019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we present our project aiming to develop a web platform for continuous monitoring of adverse effects of medicines (pharmacovigilance), by integrating information from public databases, scientific literature and social media. The project will start by scanning all available data sources concerning drug adverse events, both open (e.g., FAERS — FDA Adverse Event Reporting Systems, medical literature, social media, etc.) and proprietary data (e.g., discharge hospital records, drug prescription archives, electronic health records), that require agreement with respective data owners. Subsequent, pharmacovigilance experts will perform a semi-automatic mapping of codes identifying drugs and adverse events, to build the thesaurus of the web based platform. After these preliminary activities, signal generation and prioritization will be the core of the project. This task will result in risk confidence scores for each included data source and a comprehensive global score, indicating the possible association between a specific drug and an adverse event. The software framework MOMIS, an open source data integration system, will allow semi-automatic virtual integration of heterogeneous and distributed data sources. A web platform, based on MOMIS, able to merge many heterogeneous data sets concerning adverse events will be developed. The platform will be tested by external specialized subjects (clinical researchers, public or private employees in pharmacovigilance field). The project will provide a) an innovative way to link, for the first time in Italy, different databases to obtain novel safety indicators; b) a web platform for a fast and easy integration of all available data, useful to verify and validate hypothesis generated in signal detection. Finally, the development of the unified safety indicator (global risk score) will result in a compelling, easy-to-understand, visual format for a broad range of professional and not professional users like patients, regulatory authorities, clinicians, lawyers, human scientists.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128951246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, heart rate (HR) has become an important autonomic biomarker in seizure prediction. Based on that, a preliminary study is here proposed in order to inspect the behaviour of electrocardiogram (ECG) derived features in the period preceding epileptic seizures. The study took place using data from 1275 seizures collected from a set of 167 patients available in EPILEPSIAE database. The analysis was conducted considering three different variables: seizure type, seizure hour onset and vigilance state. The results did not reveal a clear effect of any of the three variables, assessed individually, in entire seizure set. Nevertheless, some evidence has been found that, for some seizures, it was possible to detected a consistent pattern of increase/decrease in feature magnitude before the onset. These patterns were revealed using the mean of RR intervals and the mean of the number of beats per minute.","PeriodicalId":173474,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 3rd International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125558868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
