Maintenance of cyber-physical systems is an important issue that can be crucial for the availability of those systems for developing their activities in a standard way, with respective desired behavior. With the most recent evolution of methodologies and available tools, e-maintenance is a concept that has been evolved in last years, and the use of this approach is of the utmost importance for the competitiveness of companies at several levels. In this chapter, the authors highlight the benefits of using an e-maintenance approach for the success of maintenance of cyber-physical systems, mainly when, on those systems, it is critical to keep and assure the reliability of respective behavior. For this purpose, a robot, as an illustration example, is used, and some conclusions are obtained concerning this global overview and proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130754485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It begins with a description of the standard forms of PDEs and its initial and boundary conditions that the tool uses. It is shown how various PDEs and boundary conditions can be represented in standard forms. Applications to the mechanics and tribology are presented in the final part of the chapter. They illustrate the use of PDE Modeler to solve the Reynolds equation describing the hydrodynamic lubrication, to implement the mechanical stress modeler application for a plate with an elliptical hole, to solve the transient heat equation with temperature-dependent material properties, and to study vibration of a rectangular membrane.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132793436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bearing failure is one of the foremost causes of breakdown in rotating machine, resulting in costly systems downtime. This chapter presents an application of health index (HI) for fault diagnosis of rolling element bearing (REB) which has been successfully used in diverse fields such as image processing, prognostic health management (PHM), and involves integration of mathematical and statistical concepts. There is hardly any effort done in developing HIs using different aspects of wavelet transform (WT) for fault diagnosis of REB. A comparison of the performances of the identified approaches has been made to choose the best one for REB fault diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130029525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is not possible to monitor and tend to a garden 24 hours a day, so we need a smart gardening system that can monitor and tend to the garden as we want it. In today's busy world, we forget to nourish and water plants that make our home clean and soothing. It would be really helpful if we get a notification on our phones about our plant health and needs. Taking account of this, the authors came up with the idea of building a smart garden with an IoT plant monitoring system. After the data is processed and verified, a notification is sent about the plant's health. An automated gardening system is designed to enable us to manage gardening, including monitoring moisture, temperature, and humidity. This chapter is on an IoT-based smart garden monitoring system which senses the requirement of the plant and provides it with water as the soil loses its moisture. Thing-speak and Blynk application are used to view sensor data from remote locations.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114542960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors have proposed a modified RSA algorithm with multiple keys and CRT to ensure confidentiality of data coupled with hashing through SHA-512 to maintain integrity. This work has made a secure data exchange app where files are encrypted using the RSA-CRT algorithm and hashed later. On successfully implementing the work, they observed that the proposed technique is more secure than the original RSA algorithm and RSA-CRT. Furthermore, it enhanced the algorithm performance for decryption because it employed the CRT for decryption; thus, the proposed technique proved to be faster than RSA with multi keys.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128324770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Morphological components can be used to distinguish between the brain activities and artifacts that are contaminated with each other in many physical situations. In this chapter, a two-stage wavelet shrinkage and morphological component analysis (MCA) for biological signals is a sophisticated way to analyze the brain activities and validate the effectiveness of artifacts removal. The source components in the biological signals can be characterized by specific morphology and measures the independence and uniqueness of the source components. Undecimated wavelet transform (UDWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), local discrete cosine transform (LDCT), discrete sine transform (DST), and DIRAC are the orthonormal bases function used to build the explicit dictionary for the decomposition of source component of the biological signal in the morphological component analysis. The chapter discusses the implementation and optimization algorithm of the morphological component analysis.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133068328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The theoretical approach attempts to understand both the cognitive motivation as well as the social motivation of the participants in a teaching session, held by a robotic tutor. For this aim, a questionnaire is delivered after the eye tracking experiment in order to record the type and amount of the learned material as well as the social motivation of the participants. The results of the experiments show significant effects of both cognitive and social motivation influences. It has been shown that cognitive motivation can be observed and analyzed on a very individual level. This is an important biometric feature and can be used to recognize individuals from patterns of viewing behaviors in a lesson. Guidelines, drawn from first-person accounts of learner participation in the study, are also formulated for achieving more intuitive interactions with humanoid robots intended to perform social jobs like being teachers or advisors.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133234529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With development of interdisciplinary research, there is increased curiosity among engineers towards biomedical research. Those using signal processing techniques attempt to employ algorithms to the real-life signals and retrieve characteristics of signals such as speech, echo, EEG, among others. The chapter briefs the history of human EEG and goes back to the origins and fundamentals of electrical activity in brain, how this activity reaches the scalp, methods to capture this high temporal activity. It then takes the reader through design methodology that goes behind EEG experiments, general schema for analysis of EEG signal. It describes the concept of early evoked potentials, which are known responses for study of sensory perception and are used extensively in medical science. It moves on to another popular manipulation of EEG technique used to elicit event related potentials.","PeriodicalId":173264,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129414458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
