It’s no wonder that this has been neglected by those who lack this distinctive skill. Finally, the chapter titled “Beauty” explores the history and progress of gender affirmation treatments and exposes the biases rooted in a binary culture. Gross connects this to the management of people with differences in sexual development, and how medicine has transformed its approach to care. As all of our lives are shaped by cultural assumptions of gender, the understanding of people whose gender is not easily classified can be enlightening. A radical realigning of how we distinguish and judge others might result. Misogyny and misinformation conspire to create misery, not just within the female body. Gross relays that she was told by one researcher that “nobody in Congress cares about the uterus when it doesn’t have a baby in it” (p. xii). Perhaps this book should be required reading for our legislators who keep claiming they are not “doctors” or “scientists” while they blithely restrict women’s reproductive autonomy. The title of VAGINA OBSCURA exemplifies the failure to use correct terms for female anatomy, but it also underscores a cultural discomfort with notions of gender and sexuality. While I wish Gross had explored more of the structural gender discrimination that results, and how this is used to keep women tyrannized by reproduction, I think these essays will enhance the knowledge of professionals who care for people with all body parts. As we all have embryologically similar yet alternatively purposed organs, we can universally benefit from this material. Gross conveys the wonder of biology by showing that observation is always biased. An alternative viewpoint makes science richer and can change the world.","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48505951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Symptom Checklist-90 Revised, Martial Adjustment Inventory, Female Sexual Function Index and Golombok-Rust Index for Sexual Satisfaction were applied pre-and post-treatment. Twenty-three patients were enrolled. All patients achieved sexual intercourse at the end of the treatment. After treatment, the results improved in the SCL-90 R test and sexual function indexes Marriage adjustment scores did not improve. With vaginismus, improvement in psychological scores emphasizes the importance of sexual therapy in couples having sexual dysfunctions.","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9418371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results indicated that religious orientations reflecting commitment to beliefs and rigidity in adhering to beliefs predicted greater CSB. By convenience sampling, 71 sexually active male survivors of hematological malignancy who underwent AHSCT were recruited, as well as 74 healthy men. A questionnaire with demographic and clinical data and the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) were completed. Survivors had a median age of 47 years, a median time since transplant of 3 years, and 46.5% had Hodgkin lymphoma. Based on the IIEF, they had a high level of sexual function, with best functioning domain \"erection\" and worst \"overall satisfaction\". Healthy men had statistically significantly higher scores in all domains of the IIEF, except for \"orgasm\" (p = 0.205). There was a statistically significant association between sexual function and age (p < 0.0005), years since transplantation (p = 0.006), functional status (p < 0.0005), having children (p < 0.0005), relationship status (p = 0.001), education (p < 0.0005), diagnosis (p < 0.0005) and disease relapse (p = 0.017). Multivariate analysis showed that only age was a strong prognostic factor of sexual function (p < 0.0005). After age was excluded from the model, because of the strong effect it had on the dependent variable, functional status (p = 0.015), education (p = 0.002) and diagnosis (p = 0.001) had a statistically significant association with sexual function. These findings indicate the importance of sexual function for survivors' well-being and the need for implementation of integrated care plans for survivors of hematological malignancy.</p>","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9881222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
