Partners completed self-report measures. Path analyses showed that women's and men's attachment anxiety were associated with their own lower QoL, whereas attachment avoidance was associated with their own and their partner's lower QoL. Adaptive coping in men and women were associated with women's higher QoL. Non-adaptive coping was associated with men and women's lower QoL. Coping strategies explained the associations between attachment and QoL. This highlights the importance of individual and dyadic factors for understanding QoL in couples seeking fertility treatment.</p>","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":" ","pages":"659-674"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140898744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Little is known regarding how couples which formed post-assault cope with the impact of the prior assault. Hence, the aim of the current study was to gain insight into post-assault formed couples' experiences in coping with the impact of sexual violence. To this end, an interview study was conducted with five female survivors and their male partners who began their romantic relationship post-assault. A dyadic phenomenological interview analysis revealed that sexual victimization is a dyadic stressor but is not always considered as such by the couple. In addition, disclosure is described as a potential bonding experience. Flexibility and creativity from both partners are required as they adapt to the post-assault impact. In addition, meaningful communication and considering the perspective of one's partner seemed to be key to dyadically cope successfully. The current study also identified challenges couples had to manage, including caregiver burden and role confusion. Results suggest that interventions supporting couples in their continuous efforts toward mutual understanding can foster trust and growth.</p>","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":" ","pages":"787-810"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141498268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s no wonder that this has been neglected by those who lack this distinctive skill. Finally, the chapter titled “Beauty” explores the history and progress of gender affirmation treatments and exposes the biases rooted in a binary culture. Gross connects this to the management of people with differences in sexual development, and how medicine has transformed its approach to care. As all of our lives are shaped by cultural assumptions of gender, the understanding of people whose gender is not easily classified can be enlightening. A radical realigning of how we distinguish and judge others might result. Misogyny and misinformation conspire to create misery, not just within the female body. Gross relays that she was told by one researcher that “nobody in Congress cares about the uterus when it doesn’t have a baby in it” (p. xii). Perhaps this book should be required reading for our legislators who keep claiming they are not “doctors” or “scientists” while they blithely restrict women’s reproductive autonomy. The title of VAGINA OBSCURA exemplifies the failure to use correct terms for female anatomy, but it also underscores a cultural discomfort with notions of gender and sexuality. While I wish Gross had explored more of the structural gender discrimination that results, and how this is used to keep women tyrannized by reproduction, I think these essays will enhance the knowledge of professionals who care for people with all body parts. As we all have embryologically similar yet alternatively purposed organs, we can universally benefit from this material. Gross conveys the wonder of biology by showing that observation is always biased. An alternative viewpoint makes science richer and can change the world.","PeriodicalId":17171,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy","volume":"49 1","pages":"243 - 245"},"PeriodicalIF":2.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48505951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
