Some results indicate that the performance of Bussgang blind equalization algorithms can be improved by using diversity such as fractional spacing or antenna array reception. We examine the performance of such algorithms (especially of the popular CMA 2-2), when used in a decision-feedback setup. It turns out that such a simple structure may help in avoiding the common problems of \"zeros on the unit circle\" (symbol-rate case) and of \"zeros in common\" (fractionally-spaced case). Specific implementations are developed utilizing an alternating block power method with a generalized Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization procedure. Several realization of these new recursive/feedback PCCAs are developed for exploitation of cyclostationarity and constant modulus signal properties. We obtain these classes from Cohen's (1966) class and the affine class of constant time-shift covariant QTFRs using a generalized warping that depends on the desirable group delay time-shift covariance. We develop formulations for the new classes, desirable properties with kernel constraints, new QTFR members, and intersection subclasses. In particular, the use of piecewise polynomials (splines) has provided solutions with user controlled smoothness. In this paper we introduce a new interpolation procedure which utilizes multiple knot Hermitian splines. The technique renders the interpolating spline function using fixed point shifts and additions. For a modern sonar with an azimuthally omni-directional transmitter; the Doppler of bottom reverberation is proportional to /spl nu/cos /spl theta/ where /spl nu/ is the speed of the sonar platform and /spl theta/ is measured from the bow or heading direction. For a towed array receiver, reverberation of various Doppler arriving on sidelobes limits the effectiveness of advanced waveforms. This smearing of sidelobe reverberation over a Doppler range of /spl plusmn//spl nu/ makes it difficult to detect targets with speeds less than that of the sonar platform. Standard adaptive beamforming algorithms are ineffective due to the conflict between desire for narrow frequency bins for good Doppler confinement and wide frequency bins for rapid convergence. We formulate a measurement model and derive an expression for the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) of a single source. The CRB is used to analyse the case of rigid and pressure-release surfaces in detail and comparison is made with pressure-sensor arrays. The plant is described by its discrete-time impulse response matrix, which can be determined directly from measurements. The control law design parameters are the tap weights of an FIR discretization of the Q-parameter. The multi-constraint H/sup 2//H/sup /spl infin// control law synthesis is written as a convex constrained optimization problem and solved as a structured semi-definite program. As a design example, we control the acoustic radiation from a (mathematically modeled) submerged spherical shell. The plant-model impulse response matrix has McMillan degree 800. We specify, synthesize, and compare three controllers: one designed by standard H/sup 2/ techniques; one designed by H/sup /spl infin// minimization with three H/sup /spl infin// and three H/sup 2/ constraints; and one designed by H/sup 2/ minimization with the same constraints.
