The algorithm is based on a special combination of impulse detection and nonlinear filtering where only a small number of parameters is required. In contrast to conventional approaches where parameters have to be trained first, we propose a new unsupervised learning method which is related to blind equalizers and self-organizing maps. Thereby, we dramatically reduce the necessary a-priori information as well as the computational complexity. Further, simulation results show that the performance of the new self-organizing algorithm is equivalent to that of a previously reported method with supervised training which is superior over many other existing techniques for impulse noise removal.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126699977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The RELAX algorithm is both conceptually and computationally simple; its implementation mainly requires a sequence of fast Fourier transforms. Both numerical and experimental examples are used to demonstrate the performance of the RELAX algorithm for angle and waveform estimation.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127007280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Steinhardt","doi":"10.1109/ACSSC.1995.540629","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ACSSC.1995.540629","url":null,"abstract":"Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) usually requires the estimation of large-dimension clutter covariance matrices. The mean loss in output SNR is a function of the number of statistically similar data samples used to estimate the covariance matrix. This number is generally 3 times the dimension of the covariance matrix or more. In nonhomogeneous clutter environments it is difficult to obtain this many statistically similar data samples using a data selection rule that is computationally simple. We present several new training strategies that select data samples from as close to the target range-gate as possible and simultaneously maintain a low computation count. A \"training strategy\" is the rule used to select data samples for covariance matrix estimation. A new training strategy is presented along with a recursion for efficient estimation of the clutter covariance matrix at each target range-gate. Also, a new training concept called freeze training is presented and shown to reduce the number of computations and to mitigate clutter discretes in nulled output data. A computation-count comparison is presented with each training strategy.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129127651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem class has numerous practical applications including data network routing and speech recognition. This paper discusses the hardware realization of a recurrent spatiotemporal neural network for single source multiple-destination graphical shortest path problems. The network exhibits a regular interconnect structure and uses simple processing units in a combination which is well suited for VLSI implementation with a standard fabrication process.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124008215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is derived and analyzed for the autoregressive exogenous (ARX) case and it encompasses both the recursive least squares (RLS) and least mean squares (LMS) algorithms as special cases. The algorithm can be extended to instrumental variables (IV) and prediction error (PE) like algorithms. Furthermore, a similar algorithm is derived for signal subspace tracking. The computational complexity is the same as for the RLS algorithm but some extra memory storage is required. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm has a higher ability to track time varying signals than has the RLS algorithm. The proposed algorithm especially handles those situations well where there is a simultaneous system change and decrease of signal power.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121221094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The output cumulant matching method has the advantage of exploiting invariance to yield performance and convergence properties that are insensitive to channel parameters in the low noise case. In moderate SNR however, the channel parameters do affect the performance via a modified set of parameters involving the noise covariance. A performance study is presented for this case for these algorithms. It is shown that enhancements to overall signal recovery is possible by combining noise suppression techniques with the cumulant based approaches.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116474022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This allows one to estimate the spatio-frequency correlation matrix of the co-channel interference alone. The weight vector yielding the optimum signal to interference plus noise ratio for bit decisions is the \"largest\" generalised eigenvector of the signal plus interference spatio-frequency correlation matrix in the metric of the spatio frequency correlation matrix of the co-channel interference alone. Simulations are presented demonstrating the efficacy of the procedure.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121534031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed methods are applicable to channels where each time-varying tap coefficient can be described (with respect to time) as a linear combination of a finite number of basis functions. Examples of such channels include periodically varying ones or channels locally modeled by a truncated Taylor series or wavelet expansion. It is shown that the estimation of the basis expansion parameters is equivalent to estimating the parameters of an FIR single-input-many-outputs (SIMO) system. By exploiting this equivalence, a number of different blind subspace methods are applicable, which have been originally developed in the context of SIMO systems. Identifiability issues are investigated and some illustrative simulations are presented.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"11 22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127636887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For division and square root, rounding is easy to perform if a remainder is available. But for quadratically converging algorithms, the remainder is not typically calculated. Past implementations have required the additional delay to calculate the remainder, or calculate the approximate solution to twice the accuracy, or have resulted in a close but not exact solution. This paper shows how the additional delay of calculating the remainder can be reduced if extra precision is available.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125790861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The discrete cosine transform filter is a realization of an FIR filter as the cascade of an all-zero FIR filter with a bank of IIR digital resonators. The result of such a realization is that each of the IIR resonators has a magnitude coefficient and a phase coefficient. Thus, each coefficient can be directly identified with an amplitude or phase of the transfer function at a particular frequency when run as an adaptive filter. The discrete cosine transform filter is used in a filter-X LMS implementation of a feedback active noise control system that uses a single error microphone and a single loudspeaker.","PeriodicalId":171264,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of The Twenty-Ninth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128188351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
