The effects of chronic illness and long-term treatment lead to individual psychological problems for children, such as feeling sad, withdrawing and other emotional problems. Poor psychological well-being conditions often exacerbate chronic childhood illness. Children become lazy to take medication and not obedient in doing treatment. The purpose of this devotion is to improve psychological well-being of children with chronic illness through social support interventions. This program will be carried out with a cadre of 3 partners who are nurses from  Haji Adam Malik hospital. The nurses will be trained, so they can provide the social support for children during hospitalization to improve the psychological wellbeing of the children. After the training, social support interventions implementation module will be tested to 20 chronic illness children in Haji Adam Malik hospital with the nurse as a facilitator. While the team from Psychology Faculty will supervise the implementation and provide feedback.","PeriodicalId":17104,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saintech Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89490712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This community service was titled \"The Production of F0 Oyster Mushroom Seeds (Pleurotus ostreatus), The Post-Harvest Handling, and The Utilization of Baglog Waste into Compost\" which involved two partners. Partner 1 was in Pegajahan Village, Pegajahan Sub-District who experienced problems with the availability of high-quality F0 and F1 seeds and low production in terms of quality and quantity. Partner 2 was in Blok H Village Dolok Masihul Sub-District, Serdang Bedagai Regency who had a lack of knowledge about post-harvest handling and composting from oyster mushroom baglog waste. Solutions offered for both partners were: (1) transfer of knowledge, such as lectures and discussions; (2) training; and (3) mentoring about the cultivation of F0 and F1 oyster mushrooms. Goals and targets of this activity were: (1) the communities or the farmer groups were able to produce and cultivate F0 and F1 oyster mushrooms, so they did not need to buy F0 and F1 seeds from other regions and can fulfill the market demand; and (2) Partner 2 was able to make compost from oyster mushroom baglog waste and various processed food from oyster mushroom to increase their income. The results of this activity have provided benefits to Partner 1 regarding their ability to produce F0 and F1 seeds, ability to process post-harvest oyster mushrooms into several types of food to increase its selling value, and ability to make compost from baglog waste which can be used for plants to overcome environmental pollution and to increase Partner 2’s income.","PeriodicalId":17104,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saintech Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79418505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Partnership of community service was Mr. Budi Darmanto, who has has his business for 9 years in Medan. The problems facing by the partner were: marketing of the coconut milk was still through the agent, resulting in the low selling price because the cost must be cut off for agent commission. In addition, liquid smoke product from coconut shells still contained impurity (Tar), classified as grade 3, causing the demand and its selling price became low. Solutions to the problems were 1) opening or enlarging the new commercial market for coconut milk, by assisting them in the handling of halal permits to the MUI of North Sumatra Province and made marketing advertisements through the website; 2) Providing a grant of liquid smoke distillation apparatus, making standard operational procedures (SOPs) to reduce impurities as well as increasing the grade of liquid smoke, to increase the selling price, and also analyzing the quality of distillated liquid smoke. The opening of commercial market of coconut milk and increasing grade of liquid smoke is expected to increase the partner’s income and expand his own business.","PeriodicalId":17104,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saintech Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86348250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the main road access to other villages is blocked because of landslide and erosion in many places, the village becomes isolated and underdeveloped. The only possible access to the village is through water by using boats or canoes. Difficult access to the village increases burden that have to be borne by local people; thus, they cannot rise from prolonged poverty to the present. To develop this village, assistance from higher institutions which collaborate synergistically in one series of PPM activities would be required. Based on the priority of the problem, the implementation team of PPM would focus on opening and improving 11 km road access that was blocked for a long time in the village. The work was performed using excavator and bulldozer. In addition, a training which aimed to increase income of the farmers in the village was also conducted by the PPM team. High quality of red onion seeds which was expected to be one of the village’s mainstay products were introduced to the farmers in the training. The village would also be promoted as an alternative tourism village because of its potential of natural beauty. Finally, this village is expected to be established as an assisted village partnered with University of Sumatera Utara (USU) to be the icon and the major driver of the village’s development, and one of the science-techno and tourism park models.","PeriodicalId":17104,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Saintech Transfer","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79579868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
