Using longitudinal data that follows the first 7-9 years of post-conferral employment among scientists who attained their degree in the U.S. between 2000-2008. We examine all STEM Ph.D.s in our sample as well as each specific discipline. In our primary analysis, we examine the share of careers that fit into pipeline-defined trajectories: on the tenure track (pipers), left the tenure track (droppers), never entered tenure track (nevers), and those who “hop” from outside academia into academia (hoppers). We find that a traditional pipeline path into a tenure track position describes a minority of career trajectories; the majority of Ph.D. scientist never work in academia. Further, a large share of tenure-track faculty “hop” into their position, meaning that they were in a non-tenure-track job before a tenure-track position, a career path not possible within the pipeline framework. We use two alternative methods yielding similar results: the pipeline metaphor is not useful for most careers, and we propose, not accurate. We offer an alternative conceptualization—the STEM lattice—and discuss how a lattice offers more opportunity for identifying policy intervention for increasing underrepresented minorities in STEM.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130713881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unobserved individual characteristics are correlated with these endogenous covariates and affect peer outcomes in the reduced form. Our method uses instruments for endogenous covariates, but does not require additional instruments for simultaneity in outcomes, which are often hard to find in linear-in-means models. Nor does it require any exclusion restriction that some covariates have no contextual effects. The method can be applied to relax the Stable Unit Treatment Value Assumption (SUTVA) in the program evaluation literature, allowing individual treatments to influence the outcomes of other group members through both peer and contextual effects. We apply our method to estimate social effects in Grade 3 math scores of elementary school students in the State of Tennessee. Using lagged class sizes, teacher qualifications and students' self-reported motivation scores as instruments for Grade 2 scores, we find significant evidence for positive peer effects and path dependence on G2 scores.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133706258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Problem-solving, 2. Job discretion and cross-functionality, and 3. Authority and decision-making and 4. Organizational performance. We also explored whether demographic characteristics like Age, Gender, Education, and Designation, complement the effect of ERP on workers' performance. Empirical validity was established by conducting a survey using a close-ended questionnaire. Data was collected from 301end users of ERP and analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structured equation modeling. The results suggested that problem-solving, job discretion and cross-functionality, and organizational performance were positive whereas authority and decision making are negatively influenced by ERP performance. Results also showed a positive complementarity in ERP and job designation, meaning ERP has a more pronounced effect on organizational performance of those in high designation as compared to the lower designation. Implications and limitations of the study are discussed.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131846394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extension of the maximum duration from 12 to 24 months had large and significant heterogenous effects, that vary in sign depending on the education of mothers. The policy increased the scores obtained by sons of highly educated mothers by 0.33 standard deviations in Reading and 0.40 in Science. On the contrary, sons of lower educated mothers experienced a decrease of 0.27 in Reading and 0.23 in Science. In this comment, I show that these estimates become substantially lower and non-significant when the appropriate estimation procedure is used taking into account that PISA relies on imputations to derive student scores.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"218 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129832642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose an estimation approach that requires matching outcomes only but no submitted preferences information, to decompose students’ performance into peer quality, school effectiveness, and match effect, respectively. The approach is based on the framework introduced in Abdulkadiroglu et al. (2020) where they use data of applicants’ rank-ordered choice lists to measure preferences. To deal with unobserved preferences, we utilize the techniques in Agarwal (2015) which studies hospital-intern programs to control for mutual selection in matching. We impose vertical preferences assumption and stability assumption for identification purposes. We also construct a simulated matching market to test the performance of our approach.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128465110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The convenient sampling method is used in dividing the crowds into four groups, also the four main surveyed areas in BRVT: Vung Tau, Long Hai - Phuoc Hai, Xuyen Moc and Con Dao. A combination method of qualitative and quantitative methodologies were utilized. A focus group of 10 domestic tourists was carried out for reviewing and exploring different factors and the conceptual model. An in-depth interview with 12 participants was developed to develop and correct measurement items. The questionnaire applied a 5-point Likert scale. Checking the reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha, exploratory factor analyzing and linear multiple regressioning were used by SPSS program. The results show that there are eight main destination image factors affecting domestic tourists revisit intention to BRVT linear regressively, arranged by reducing the importance: Infrastructure, Variety Seeking, Accessibility, Local food, Atmostphere, Environment, Price Value, Leisure and Entertainment. From that, the research reveals some suggestions for tourist businesses and province policy makers to identify the main issues and to have better customer service to enhance domestic tourists revisit intention.","PeriodicalId":170926,"journal":{"name":"EduRN eJournals (All Inclusive)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126690718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
