To perform our calculations we used the Schwinger multichannel method with pseudopotentials.We have found, in a static-exchange calculation, a shape resonance around 1 eV that belongs to the Π u symmetry.With the inclusion of polarisation effects only in that symmetry, we show that the resonance becomes a bound state. This result is in agreement with other results available in the literature.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132196898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hollenberg","doi":"10.1071/PH00100","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1071/PH00100","url":null,"abstract":"The dynamic acoustics of the Australian didjeridu are studied by separately considering transverse and longitudinal lip vibration models in the context of highly non-sinusoidal lip motion. Timedomain computer simulations are performed based on these lip models coupled to the input impedance function of a straight pipe. For the purposes of direct comparison, detailed results are reported here for lip motion leading to both sinusoidal lip opening area functions (characteristic of higher frequency brass instruments) and the more complex non-sinusoidal (approximately half-closed cycle) case characteristic of the didjeridu. Over a range of lip resonance frequencies, the sounding frequency for the transverse (longitudinal) model is found to be below (above) both the lip and fundamental pipe resonance frequencies, in qualitative agreement with linear theory for these value types. A striking difference is found between the two models when comparing the effect of significant lip closure in the non-sinusoidal cycle—the sounding frequency in the transverse case is raised by up to 10%, whilst essentially unaltered in the longitudinal model. The effect the lips sticking during the non-sinusoidal cycle was considered by increasing the damping force upon closure, and was found in both transverse and longitudinal models to weaken significantly the generation of harmonics in the sound.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132130811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the scheme, a two-level atom is sent through two cavities, each having a movable mirror, to produce an entangled photon state for the cavity fields. Then the optomechanical effects further entangle the mirror motions with the cavity fields. A second two-level atom, passing through the cavities, is state-selectively measured, which reduces the mirror motions to an entangled coherent state.We also show how to distinguish such an entangled state from a classical mixture.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133729108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The temperature dependencies of the second order elastic stiffness tensor components (SOEC) CS IJ , which have been determined from the velocitydata between 10 and 300 K, show no evidence of phonon mode softening throughout the whole temperature range. The elastic stiffnesses increased monotonically, the usual behaviour associated with the effect of the phonon anharmonicityof atomic vibration. At low temperatures, strong phonon interactions with two-level systems have been observed. The ultrasonic wave attenuation of longitudinal and shear waves is dominated bya broad acoustic loss peak whose height and peak position are frequencydependent. This behaviour is consistent with the presence of thermally activated structural relaxation of the two-level systems in these glasses. The fractal bond connectivity of these glasses, obtained from the elastic stiffnesses determined from ultrasonic wave velocities, has a value between 2.32 to 2.55, indicating that their connectivitytends towards having a threedimensional character. The hydrostatic pressure dependencies of longitudinal ultrasonic waves show a slight increase with pressure. As a consequence, the hydrostatic pressure derivatives ( CS11/ P)P=0 of the elastic stiffness CS11/ and (BS/P)P=0 of the bulk modulus BS of (Pr2O3)x(P2O5)1-x glasses are positive. The bulk modulus increases with pressure, and thus these glasses stiffen under pressure, which is associated with the normal elastic behaviour. The GrUneisen parameter approach has been used to quantifythe vibrational anharmonicityof the long-wavelength acoustic phonons in these glasses.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"51 3S 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122823037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a material power law, we determine the temperature and field dependencies of the characteristic pinning potential UJand the real critical current density Jc at different fields and temperatures. It is shown that Jc is completely different from the conventional critical current density JE, which is determined by the electronic-field criterion. Thus, the time-honoured electronic-field criterion is no longer reasonable for high-Tc superconductors. By further investigation of the results of Jc and UJ, we are able to present a physical picture of the transformation of the pinning potential well with increasing temperature and hence determine the transition point from vortex-glass phase to vortex-liquid phase.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128958953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found that with increasing N: (a) the positron lifetime parameters t1, t2, I1, I2 and ot and the microhardness parameter MH all exhibit quasi-periodic up-and-down variation; (b) these parameters have the same period of variation; and (c) the period of up-and-down variation becomes gradually longer. The variation of MH reveals that fatigue hardening and fatigue softening occur alternately in the process of thermal fatigue. The variations of positron lifetime parameters reveal variations of defects in the fatigued materials. These variations are attributed to microdeformation and dynamic recovery dominating alternately in the process of thermal fatigue.","PeriodicalId":170873,"journal":{"name":"Australian Journal of Physics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133986805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
